Just FYI I watched Zatoichi (well half of it) last night,

Huh? Zatoichi is like 25 films and a whole TV series, how do you watch “half” of it in one evening.

The Kitano remake is simply called “Zatoichi”.

Ah, right. I completely forgot about that version.

And since we’re at it, you mentioned 25 films earlier: don’t forget the 26th episode released in 1989. Still don’t know why Criterion (and Wild Side in France) didn’t release this one (it can however be found as a zone 1 edition).

Well I can’t say for sure, but I did a quick google search and it seems that the films were made by several production companies. The bulk of the first 25 being made by Daiei Studios (some Chinese studioes apparently got involved at the end), and the last film from 1989 was made by Katsu Production which was founded by Shintaro Katsu himself after Daiei Studioes closed. It seems Katsu prod. owns the rights to the 1989 film, while someone else acquired the rights to Daiei’s films at some point. So I guess Criterion only got the distribution rights to the Daiei films.

Nice! The international trailer has Jyn saying “May the Force be with us…” with a much more earnest tone. In the sizzle reel it sounded like she was being sarcastic. Glad they “fixed” it… or maybe the sizzle reel version was just meant as a wink for the audience. 😃

Ronster you’re reading a bit much into it. It literally could be as simple as the scene where he gets the gash was moved afterwards. Point being we have no idea why the change.

I don’t think anyone doubts this’ll be the most adult SW film yet. Don’t think we have to worry about censorship.

On another note if like to say I haven’t seen any footage for this movie yet and couldn’t be happier. Even though I care much less about spoilers for this than TFA, they’ve been MUCH easier to avoid.

Yes the Kitano remake… And I think the “Visually impaired” was a joke by the director it can be a bit whacky in places. But he is constantly reffered to as blind by others and himself at the finale. I reckon Gareth Edwards liked it.

I liked it but not to be taken too seriously.

@Dominic Cobb not worried I just don’t understand why they did it. No big deal but let’s hope that it’s not going to be too soft.

Come to think of it, When Jyn walks to the TIE in the second trailer, it might be that she is trying to hijack it, in order to dress up as a TIE pilot, and sneak in the Death Star. as you see in the first trailer, she appears to be in disguise of a modified TIE Pilot uniform.

To be honest, Kylo’s interrogation of Rey is not as disturbing as what Spock did to Valeris in Star Trek VI.

I’m not a Trek fan so I’m going to need some context.

Well, like Kylo in TFA, Spock forcibly reads someone’s mind in ST VI. The overall scene is a bit creepy. And unlike TFA this film is a lot less subtle about the fact hat it’s supposed to be quite violating.

Here’s the scene btw; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1NgX-w54RY

I’m sure Spock did what he did for a good reason. Kylo on the other hand read Rey’s to not only locate Skywalker but because he could. There was no reason to look for the negative emotions and memories she harbors in her mind or how she felt that Han could be the Father she never had.

Apparently, Spock killed that lady by stabbing his fingers through her face!
That is pretty brutal. Makes Kylo seem like a pansy!

I agree. Ever since I have read the things Darth Zannah has done with Sith Sorcery I am not impressed by any harmful Force Abilities in the films.

Oh sure, it was a matter of life and death for potentially millions, and the clock was ticking, etc, etc (last act stuff). My point was just that the scene was a little more “blunt” about it than the one in TFA.

I think the only thing that makes it more blunt is that Spock is physically touching her as he’s probing her mind.

Well, that, and the fact that if you have watched Trek, Spock has himself stated that reading someone’s mind without their permission is a major no-no. so seeing him then violate that, it is clear that he is violating boundaries. I don’t know if anyone in Star Wars has ever made the case that reading someones mind without permission is a boundary you don’t cross. So that makes the ST scene play differently than the TFA one.

Forcefully invading someone’s mind is a no-no in general. Someone in Star Wars didn’t need to tell us that. Especially when the villains are the one who’s doing it in the films.

I would also claim that Valeris’ reaction is far more extreme than Rey’s. Also Rey had a small moment if triumph as she read Kylo’s fears as well, whereas Valeris is simply forced to take until Spock stops. So the outcomes are vastly different. But of course the motivations are completely different as well.

And I would counter that besides Rey’s tears Poe’s reaction is equal to if not worse than Valeris’.

Also Rey had a small moment if triumph as she read Kylo’s fears as well, whereas Valeris is simply forced to take until Spock stops. So the outcomes are vastly different.

The worst part of the interrogation is when Kylo is pulling personal things out of Rey’s mind. At that point she was totally helpless and that’s when she cried.

Make that three. http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/981968 I’d like her to be a break from the usual heroes. Give her some depth, some backbone. Let her exist outside of the norm.

Yeah, I liked that scene in the first trailer because her look and the way she says it felt more to me like she was mocking the Rebels use of the phrase than being genuine about it, and that made me really happy.

Hmmm, I gotta say that I liked Jyn’s line reading from the first trailer too. It reminded me of the fact that Han said the phrase to Luke when he was initially about to leave the rebels to it, in ANH…even though he didn’t really believe in it. I got that same impression about Jyn’s attitude to ‘The Force’ from the first trailer, but this more earnest version makes it sound that she does believe in it - which would make for a very different character trait if that’s the case.

Oh well, at least it’s good to see that the ‘forehead gash’ has been re-instated after all the fuss. 😉

Another idea would be if Jyn says it twice in the movie, the second time more earnest than the first.

I have no idea why they’d confuse us by doing this in the trailers if that were actually the case, but there’s a non zero chance.

Author
Time

It’s possible she sees some things that make the Force more real to her. That would be okay with me as well.

After all, Han goes from “hokey religions and ancient weapons” to “it’s true, all of it”.

eh, not really. Luke read other’s feelings etc. sure not exactly the same, but whatever, i think this has been completely talked out at this point.

Not exactly the same indeed. Context and intent make a huge difference 😉
