Just to save you from watching TPM again, he was fully-digital, but what they did was a lot of early motion capture work and, like early versions of WIP Threepio, initially tested the suit with an actor inside before deciding on a fully digital performance.

Ahmed Best did the voice for all three films. Not sure about mocap for II and III though.

There are a couple shots here and there in TPM of the Jar Jar suit. It’s usually just feet or hands though. It was still useful to give the actors something to play against.

IIRC, Rick McCallum once talked about how he would like to have “greenscreen” versions being an extra, (like the version of 300 without any digital backgrounds or effects) but that never came to pass.

Anyone know if the same guy plays JarJar in ep 2 and 3?

No idea if he donned the suit for ROTS.

I like puppets that are realistic like jabba. Just the cheap undetailed ones take you out of the movie. They should either be touched up with CG or replaced entirely. I know that won’t happen anymore tho since GL is no longer part of Star Wars. I heard the 4K versions will have further changes but I doubt GL did that much, plus I think it’ll be a long time before I get a 4k TV anyway.

The only “solid” rumor about a 4K release is an OOT release.

I agree that he presents better as a puppet than as CGI, but the puppet itself could have been much better.

Also agreed. Maybe the ILM practical effects shop gave up after the second crack at it – the first try at a Yoda puppet ended up being used for a female Yoda-species Jedi on the Council (Yaddle).

That pic don’t make any sense. Return of the Jedi was made over 30 years ago. Daisy Ridly is 24. If Leia and Luke did it behind Han Solo’s back then they would have known it was incest.

Daisy’s age doesn’t matter seeing as how Rey is 19 but when that is factored in the picture makes even less sense.

I read an interview where Ahmed Best said that for Revenge of the Sith, he just had to where the costume that Jar Jar wears and then they CG’d over the top.

Not enough people read the EU.

The scene where Jar Jar is revealed as a Sith lord no doubt. 😉

I’m pretty sure Ahmed Best wore the suit for ROTS because he did an interview where he talked about a “dark and intriguing” scene starring Jar Jar that eventually got cut and hasn’t made it onto any DVD/BD releases yet.

Years ago I heard rumors of a scene where Jar Jar was killed by Clone Troopers in the Senate building. I even saw a clip that was probably fake, but since the whole movie looked fake I couldn’t tell 😉.

I actually had to check ROTJ to see if you were putting us on. How did I never see this?

I remember them being there in Star Wars: Galaxies but had honestly never remembered them in the movies.

But then, it is very dark in there (I also don’t remember Boba in that second shot, and I always notice Boba).
