So I hear that Admiral Thrawn has been recanonized.
EDIT: already mentioned in Rebels thread.
Thanks anyways, I don’t read that thread.

Don’t waste your time. The films are the only Star Wars related thing that Frink will indulge in.

Eh, there never was a reason to canonize him, besides fanservice of cause. But whatever.

I think looking at that cover just made my eyes red …
That cover is absolutely hideous.

On the topic of canonizing stuff, I had a feeling they were gonna use the Outrider from Shadows of The Empire at some point. The ship itself is still in the most recent releases of ANH so it’s no surprise to me, hell Disney even made it canon ages ago :http://au.ign.com/articles/2015/04/30/shadows-of-the-empires-outrider-confirmed-as-star-wars-canon
Cassian Andor: Kyle Katarn::
Dash Rendar: Han Solo

Because I double posted accidentally, here’s another random SW thought:
I like how the lightsaber props used for filming TFA are basically the same as the Master Replicas glowy sabers.

There’s even a YT-2400 showing up in Rebels soon.

On the topic of sabers, I’ve got a replica Anakin saber that I got from Comic-Con. It’s alright, but I really wish they figured out a way to emulate the glowing white core rather than being a solid color.

Yeah they still haven’t figured that out yet. However, in certain conditions (lighting, exposure, etc.) it can look pretty accurate on camera. Try it out!

I’m actually quite surprised at just how thrilled fans are by Thrawn’s return, and how eager they are to have their favorite old characters re-written for the new canon. Like why would people want a new Kyle Katarn? And this is coming from a huge Katarn fan. I don’t see the appeal of classic EU character being re-written. If you like the Legends canon then stick with the Legends canon. Shouldn’t the new canon focus more on original characters?
That’s why I’m exited about Krennic in RO. I like that it’s someone new. He’s a bit like Thrawn, sure, but it’s still someone new that I’m interested to learn more about. The new Thrawn looks like he’s been competently written, and I really do like he voice they chose for him, but it’s just the same Thrawn people read about 25 years ago.
I’m also kind of curious as to what Zahn is going to do in the new Thrawn book. Is there really anything new to tell about Thrawn after seven books? I can’t imagine that there’s much more to add to the character than to recycle what has already been written.

I think the appeal for me is that I didn’t really like Thrawn as he was written in his trilogy in the old EU, so I’m hoping they make him a better character in Rebels. I like the idea of new takes on established characters, especially EU characters.
For some people, I’ve heard they’re excited that Thrawn will now be Officially Full Canon now.

I have realized, Why Luke’s stunt double always have his hair different than Mark’s to continue the continuity?

I see what you mean, but I still find it strange. If you didn’t like the original Thrawn character, why would you have him remade rather than get someone completely original?

I’ve never understood this argument. It’s all fiction, Thrawn is fiction, why must he be part of the official canon. Some fans react almost as if they’ve just learned that a a character from legends (like Robin Hood, or something similar) was just revealed to be a real historical character. This is even how Lucasfilm have been hinting at Thrawn’s return; I can’t find the exact quote but it was something like "some elements of the legends are true".
I dunno, it’s just silly and weird to me.
Bottom line for me is this; I find re-booting characters weird, and I don’t watch Rebels anyway, but at least the new Thrawn looks cool and like the voice they chose for him.

I liked the concept of Thrawn, and didn’t mind the character per se. I just didn’t enjoy how he was written to just be able to get a five second glance at half a painting from across a room and be instantly able to figure out how to totally annihilate his enemy from that. He was never wrong, and almost never made a mistake. I also thought it was dumb how Pallaeon (who was made out to be a very intelligent commander) was always dumbfounded by whatever Thrawn did and was always shocked and amazed and in awe of Thrawn’s every move.
There would be scenes where the Rebels are winning and Pellaeon is like “Oh shit we’re boned!” and Thrawn would just cock an eyebrow and wait until the last second, and suddenly the entire Rebel fleet would implode and Pellaeon would stand there with his mouth agape while Thrawn casually talks about how he laid this one-in-a-trillion trap that he knew the Bothan commander of the Rebel fleet would fall for because of XYZ aspects of Bothan art.
It was just too much over-the-top Mary Sue-ery for me.
But, if they dial that back and just have Thrawn be a very good Imperial Grand Admiral, even if he still analyzes the enemy through their art (which it looks like he does), that would be pretty cool.
I’d certainly love for more original characters, but people have a serious hard-on for Zahn’s books, so this was going to happen from the day they announced Legends, so they might as well do a good job of it.
I can’t make the “He’s finally real canon” argument because it’s not mine and I don’t get it either, I’ve just seen people excited about it.

There’s nothing wrong with pleasing the fans
For the cryptographers among you… a SW thought so random, it doesn’t even appear to relate to SW at first.
By way of explanation I should note that this matrix is actually rather interesting, given its apparent subject: clothing as plot. Or rather, costume design as foreshadowing.
As Doc Brown likes to say, the future isn’t written.
An explanation of the labels:
The X-axis represents Luke’s relationship with Vader; namely, is Darth Vader his father (ie, his real father, not Annikin Skywalker) or his elder brother?
The Y-axis represents the nature of Luke’s relationship with Leia: Incestuous, Not Incestuous, or she’s Dead by the end of ROTJ.
As for the various cultural allusions: they’re notes to John Mollo for the middle section of Star Wars, circa 1975.

Also: watching the Celebration 2016 footage, I’m reminded that Warwick Davis’ character in TPM was named Wald after the German for “forest.” Because the willow submits to the wind until it becomes many willows.
