Sand Person sounds very PC to me, to be quite honest – a completely gender neutral term, just the way radical feminists like 'em.
Who would even object to the term, except a Tusken Raider who’s fictional in the first place?

Also, she genuinely wonders if the term “sand people” is politically correct anymore. I’m too scared to check the inter webs to see if she’s the only one but please, don’t let this be a thing.
As a college student, I assure you there are numerous others. Eergh.
That’s so silly. Is it inappropriate to call people who live in a city “city people”? Or to call children attending school “school kids”?
Wouldn’t Tusken Raider technically be worse though if seen from a politically correct stand point in the SW universe (that’s one of the weirdest and silliest things I’ve written). I mean it has “raider” in the name. At least Sand People is pretty neutral.
As a side note, WEG explained that name by attributing it to an historical event (as far as Tatooine is concerned anyway) where some “Sand People” attacked/raided a human settlement Fort Tusken. I always though that was a clever retcon, but now I’m more curious as to what Lucas was thinking about when he came up with “Tusken”.

Tuskegee Airmen
I think George made a movie about them, too.
I’ve always figure it came (in movie) from the Sand People hailing from a place called Tusken on Tatooine.
Ummm, they have tusks on their masks.
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
They have short metal prongs, but those aren’t tusks.
And things with tusks aren’t referred to as being Tusken.
Yes, but this is George we’re talking about. The greedy bounty hunter who tries to shoot Han is named Greedo. He named the death stick dealer in AOTC, Elan Sleazebaggano. The name even appears in the credits.

Lol this forum is boobytrapped, made me post the formatting instructions lol.
So my random thought… I was a gigantic Star Wars fan in high school (that means the 90s) with my friends. We played the DOS space combat games, watched the trilogy more than I can count, had Star Wars-related nicknames (I was Wedge), wrote parody fanfiction…
The mediocrity of the prequel trilogy (I never thought they were “horrible”, just “meh”) and the 3d third person games turned me quite off Star Wars for quite a while…
Anyway, I recently got X-Wing Alliance hacked onto my modern PC, and realized just how awesome these games are. It made me passionate about Star Wars again. So if anyone had missed them, the Lucasarts space combat games (X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance) are among the best Star Wars related media out there. I rank them right up next to the original trilogy in terms of defining my Star Wars fandom as a young teen.

See, I’ve never bought that. Greedo wasn’t greedy, he was a bounty hunter doing his job. He wasn’t running around the bar drinking every ones rum and refusing to share his own.
He named the death stick dealer in AOTC, Elan Sleazebaggano. The name even appears in the credits.
I don’t know this character. Or what was happening in George’s mind during the PT. That’s really silly though!

What?

Now I kinda wish he had.
Greedo sounds like Guido.
Greedo sounds like Guido.
Wait—you knew a guy named Guido who went around drinking other people’s rums, too??
Small world!

Hacked onto your computer? You know they’re all for sale on GOG and have been configured to run on modern PCs without a hitch.

And yet another obscure character that got an action figure while I still wait for them to make Jaxxon. sigh

Why should I buy something I already have? 😉 The 64-bit compatible installer for the original discs and the DirectX 10 fix can be downloaded for free, and it wasn’t that hard to make it work.
To go back a few random thoughts: honestly, the in-universe origin of the term “Tusken Raider” makes it sound like that name should be the more derogatory one, but I just think the idea of Obi-Wan and Luke being a little bit racist in spite of everything else is too funny to not make “Sand People” the slur in my own headcanon.
Is the Fort Tusken thing still canon these days? In any case, it’s unlikely anyone has ever been able to ask them what name they call themselves by. I don’t think Tusken Raider is ever said on screen in Star Wars. The Kenner figure never used it either.
Aside from the all purpose scum, there don’t seem to be many derogatory terms used in the SW universe, at least not heard on screen.

Well, both the movies and the EU have had some pretty interesting swear words over the years, although very few of them are real-life curses;

Oh yeah, I recall Kyle Katarn saying that in Jedi Outcast.

How come there are almost no planets in Star Wars that aren’t mono-climate/terrain?
