I meant when was it declared non-canon?

I’m pretty sure it was still canon when the first bunch of episodes of the CGI series came out. An interview of Dave Filoni can be found somewhere in which he declared he loved and respected the original show and that the CGI version was a sequel not a remake (it was before the new show was aired I guess). In fact I don’t think the first series has been officially declared non-canon by Lucas and Lucasfilm, they just stop mentioning it during the release of TCW ze movie, and then they erased it from the website and stoped producing video releases of it. Curiously the second show has never dealt with the same exact time era of the first series (Anakin is already a Jedi Knight in the second show, and it ends before Anakin and Obi-Wan were sent for a mission in the Outer-Rim territories that last months), so both can co-exist without too much continuity issues. It finally was officially declared non-canon by default when the “great reboot” was triggered in april 2014.

If someone can find something official, like an interview of GL where the conflict between the two series is mentionned, could be useful !

You said that it was declared “off canon” before Disney bought it.

Even Shadows of the Empire has been erased ? It was such a huge thing in the 90’s (book, comics, soundtrack album, video games, action figures, etc.)…

Yeah, I don’t get it either. It makes no references to any post ROTJ Legends stories (e.g Thrawn, Ben Skywalker, etc.), nor has it any connection to any pre-existing EU stories, so it was pretty much made to be it’s own unique stand-alone story. Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm could save a lot of time and money filling in the ANH-ESB gap by simply re-canonizing or re-telling Shadows of the Empire. It would also calm down the whole “bring back the EU” crowd somewhat, and it wouldn’t in any way contradict the new movies. Then again I haven’t read any of the new books or comics, so maybe it does contradict something? Has any of the new EU material taken place in his time-period?

It’s actually really easy to get.

The EU was rebooted in 2014. Anything that came before was declared noncanon, anything after, canon. There was no picking and choosing. The one holdover was TCW which was grandfathered in because they had new episodes out that year.

The idea was a clean slate, not just for new movies, but also for new comics and books and etc. (with the perhaps silly hope that things will actually be consistent from now on).

So while I don’t think anything has been set in that time period yet, there definitely will be things that mine that span. So canonizing SOTE would not be saving them any money, it’d be costing them the potential money they could make with replacement stories.

Sorry but I cant’ take it seriously. You don’t seem to understand how dumb your way to ask questions is. Oh gosh, I think I’m gonna stay away from forums a few more weeks.

Well Disney erased the old EU simply to be able to sell the same crap twice. No point of leaving anything and therefore not being able to sell it again.

My personal canon:

Star Wars (A New Hope)
Some of the newer Marvel comics I guess
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Most of the Thrawn Trilogy (replace Jaina and Jacen with Ben)
The Force Awakens

Probably will be included eventually:

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
The First Order Strikes Back (VIII)
Rey-Turn of the Jedi (IX)

Somewhat Less Likely to be included:

The Clone Wars (need to rewatch to decide)
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story

.

Well let’s get the full story before we start calling Han and Leia’s parenting into question…

Not that I’m complaining or anything, but how exactly do you make that work?

(Do you skip certain chapters, lines…? I mean I too nitpick my stories, but this sounds somewhat complicated.)

Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
Original Trilogy Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Amazon link to my novel; Dawn of the Karabu.

Shouldn’t be that complicated since they’re just babies throughout that trilogy right? My version of this is probably the more complicated one, where I replace Dash Rendar and Leebo in Shadows of the Empire with Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors.

Sure, I just can’t imagine reading the books and constantly having to make a mental note that the “twins” is just a boy named Ben, not to mention having to ignore their names constantly.
F.ex. the most complicated my personal retconning has ever gotten is ignoring page 1 of Marvel’s Star Wars #11 (e.g. a short recap of a story I didn’t care for). Constantly retconning two characters, despite being babies, just seems very difficult to me.

However I will admit that your Dash Rendar retcon/replacing sounds damn right tedious.
Also; why?
I’ll admit that Dash isn’t the greatest character ever made, but why replace him? Also how do you make his personality and character development fit with Katarn’s? Not to mention the whole “dying” at the end thing? As a fan of Katarn I’m genuinely curious as to how all this works in your canon.

EDIT. (Come to think of it, with all the Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy mods I’m kind of surprised that no one has ever modded the Shadows of the Empire game to include Katarn from Dark Forces II.)

Last time I read them was before TFA, but IIRC they aren’t even born until halfway through The Last Command, so I just imagine that Leia was having one kid instead of two. I don’t skip any chapters or anything.

Now that makes a lot more sense to me.

I read the trilogy for the first time after having seen TFA, so I just stick to having two head-canons (well, technically three).

Original Trilogy Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)

Sorry, I’m autistic and have didn’t know what you meant by it was “declared off canon.”

Developing a personal canon isn’t really compatible with how I like to enjoy this sort of fiction with big, sprawling universes. A big part of the appeal of Star Wars, and LOTR, and A Song of Ice ad Fire, etc. is the fact that I’m given access to this world I had nothing to do with creating in which I can poke around and look under rocks, so to speak. I find that picking and choosing what I want to “count” for myself makes me too much of a participant to be able to immerse myself as an observer the way I like to do. So, I guess I just accept the official canon (with Legends as an alternate timeline), and I focus on the stuff I like, and I don’t dwell on the stuff I don’t.

I’d like to do this with some of the comics. Unfortunately, the artistic skills and tools necessary to get the job done aren’t in my possession.

I think this worls well for LOTR becasue there’s only one author and the story was carefully planned out before writing it down. I haven’t read Song of Ice and Fire, so I can’t judge that, but again, there’s only one author and even if he doesn’t plan everything out, it’s relatively easy for him to abandon characters that he lost interest in by simply killing them off.
Star Wars, however is highly incongruent, the EU has countless authors and the difference between 70’s and 80’s Lucas and 90’s and 00’s Lucas is huge. I just can’t think of Star Wars as one big saga anymore.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

Minus Bloodlines and Rogue One this is the official canon timeline:

Isn’t this missing the current comic books?

“You don’t really mean you’ll kill me, do you?” - Juror 8

Tier 1: G-canon
Episodes I-VI and their screenplays, deleted scenes, novelizations and radio dramas (when not contradicting the final film) and official reference guides (Visual Dictionaries, Incredible Cross-Sections, etc)

Everything else comes from this and bends before it.

Tier 2.1:
Sequel Trilogy and Anthology films, The Clone Wars and Rebels television series, post-Legends novels and comics, official reference material

Current Lucasfilm canon since 2014.

Tier 2.2:
2003 Clone Wars microseries, Bantam-era novels, pre-Legacy Del Rey novels, '70s-'80s Marvel and newspaper comics, Dark Horse comics, Droids animated series, Essential Guides.

Most of the Expanded Universe, separate continuity.

Tier 3:
Legacy-era novels and comics, Junior Jedi Knights, Ewoks movies and animated series, KOTOR comics, Dawn of the Jedi, The Old Republic.

I won’t outright reject their existence as part of the EU but I don’t much care for them and don’t really think of them as part of the GFFA’s history. My personal S-canon.

Non-canon:

Jedi Prince novels, The Force Unleashed (both), 2013 Star Wars comic book,
I don’t like these and don’t consider them canon.
