I thought felt the same way about it that I felt about 2001. Great movie, would be a masterpiece if 20 minutes shorter. I loved the score. There weren’t any parts I didn’t like but I would still cut 20 minutes or so to make it move a bit faster.

Kubrick cut around 19 minutes from the movie right after the premiere already. 😉

Interstellar (2014)

This movie had no business being almost three hours long. Did the editor take a long nap and the movie was released without his or her knowledge? Beyond that, it reminded me a little of Sunshine in that both were very interesting movies that utterly failed in the last act. There was some really good stuff in it, which only made it all the more disappointing.

7/10

Interesting review. I was alright with the ending because of its ambition and the fact that it presented the idea of time not being an arrow but being just all at once. Neil De’Grasse Tyson has some cool points about the science of the ending. So after all that, I feel I can appreciate it a bit more.

I thought the score was beatiful, the acting terrific and the chemistry very strong between Murph and her father. The scene of Brand wanting to go to a planet because of love did not work for me. But visually, Interstellar is a masterpiece.

IMHO Interstellar works on enough levels that it’s immense ambition can be felt viscerally and despite a few problems I feel perfectly fine giving it a strong 9/10.

ITS OBJECTIVELY A PERFECT MOVIE AND ALSO OBAMA WASNT BORN IN THE US

Just when I thought you might be mature and actually discuss the damn movie. Way to take the high road Frink.

I don’t know how to rate it and I don’t know why I watched it. Check it out if you like weird hammy movies I guess but otherwise skip it.

It’s called camp. And it was all the rage in the 60’s. Also, Adam West is the dogdamn Batman. To me anyway. 😉

As a child of the Bruce Timm Post-Crisis era, I have to admit that I prefer my Batman dark, noir, and brooding, but I’ve met tons of Batfans who love Adam West and who cite him as their favorite rendition of the Caped Crusader. He may not be my preferred rendition, but I don’t think that devalues him, and for many, he’s the best Batman of all. Me, there’s a limit to how much camp I can take 😉.

Standing the Shadows of Motown- Yeah, I’m from Detroit, so I’m biased, but seriously, watch this. It’s an absolutely wonderful documentary about the Motown Records Sound’s house band the Funk Brothers. A fascinating look at the cultural intersection where Motown existed, the sad but exuberant story of the musicians who crafted such masterful music, and a celebration of their art. Watch this. Now. It’s on Amazon Instant Video and Hulu. Watch it.

Just got out of Lawrence and it might have been my favorite theater experience ever. The crowd was so much more into it than they were four years ago at the Regal. Highlight was the applause on the “and introducing Peter O’Toole as T.E. Lawrence” title card.

Adam West has played Batman totally straight. On the final season of the Superfriends cartoon, then retitled The Superpowers Team:Galactic Guardians. Clunky title aside, it was probably the best incarnation of the show. The fellow who was story editor on BTAS even penned an episode where the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents was told in flashback. Pretty heavy stuff for Saturday morning!

Diamonds Are Forever - I love it!

I watched that for the first time today.

Diamonds Are Forever (1971) - 6/10

I really enjoyed the action in this film, and the production values were fantastic. I especially liked how much the editing had improved since Thunderball, and the lack of jump cuts compared to that film. The plot, like most Bond films, was pretty stupid, and the villain wasn’t very threatening. Tiffany Case was terrible, completely useless, even Tatiana Romonova had the honour of killing Klebb, Case didn’t do anything. I thought Connery was just okay, and pretty visibly disinterested throughout, but I enjoyed the film anyway.

Well, Sean was only lured back to the role by parking a truck full of money in front of his house. More or less…

I marvel at the scenic views of the Las Vegas strip with so much open land on it, and glimpses of the hotels that aren’t there anymore. The Whyte House is still there, but seems shorter now. 😉

Just for the sake of torture, I went ahead and watched both of the DCCU films that currently exist.

Man of Steel (2013) - 2/10

I hate the Superman character in it, I hate the direction, the terrible camerawork, the atrocious editing, and the bland colour pallette. The characters are boring and poorly acted, and the end battle with Zod is laughably destructive. I guess I like the music, and a couple other assorted details, but this film is truly horrendous.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) - 2/10

The colour pallette has improved and Ben Affleck is okay, although he is given absolutely nothong to do. The music is good once again, bit the story is even worse than Man of Steel, and the character decisions are awful. The action scenes fall completely flat on their face and once more the editing, camerawork and direction are hopeless.

Those two films may well be my least favorite comic book movies, and I will never be watching them again.

Not enough people read the EU.

The music in BvS is good? It’s just two and a half hours of constant Zimmer BWAAHM™ sounds. I guess it fits rather well with the accidental-campy absurdity of the whole movie.

I like to call them Brahms😄. And like I’ve said on this forum before: How is he so popular? The only interesting thing I’ve ever heard in any of his scores was the string constantly rising in pitch in the Joker scenes of TDK.
