Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread — Page 6

I don’t know what it is about the picture, but my eyes make me want to think the rebels were photoshopped into a group picture and then had a paint filter applied on top of them. The one in the pink armour especially looks takes me a minute to think that it’s probably not a head just pasted onto some guy.

Who the f could it even be? Cannot think of anyone from the films. An EU character?

Most definitely an EU character. Closest I can think of is Kyle Katarn. It fits the clues EW posted:

??? (Forest Whitaker)

This character has a past that Star Wars completists will recognize immediately when they see his name, even if he looks very different than the way they’ve seen him elsewhere. (He even looks different from when we saw him in the teaser trailer.) There’s so much to say about this character, we’re going to save his revelation for later today. Check back to EW.com around 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT for a deeper exploration of this shadowy figure …

Hmm thought it might be TCW. They haven’t brought in old EU characters yet and I’m starting to wonder if they ever will.

Feels like a story group thing. Random, but I guess sort of why not? Cool to see dots being connected. Also makes me wonder if we might see Rebels characters in the film (or RO characters in Rebels). Why not, right?

Sounds like the story group came up with it 4 years ago and has been planting seeds ever since. He’s mentioned in “Bloodline” and “Rebels” whenever they need to talk about the Rebellion’s darker side.

I’d love to see the Director in Rebels. Do it!

Oh man, that’s cool. The Onderon arc was pretty great.

I more I read up on him, the more I remembered that arc and liking his character.

In addition to Whitaker’s reveal. We also now have a full character list. THANKFULLY, they’re not the incredibly stupid names that have seemingly become the norm the last few years:

  • Captain Cassian Andor
  • Chirrut Imwe
  • Baze Malbus
  • K-2SO
  • Bodhi Rook
  • Galen Erso
  • Director Orson Krennic

This film is really shaping up.

A clear statement that Disney will never produce prequel reboots. Like. Never. They are binding both trilogies each time they get a chance to do so. TFA was trying to “fix” ROTJ and used PT references; “Rebels” continued “TCW” which were an attempt to fix the PT background, and now “Rogue One” is probably going to be the missing link between ROTS and ANH to smoother the transition (what Lucas would have done if he had not trapped himself with this “trilogy” idea and had sticked to his “5 part prologue” synopsis written on a yellow draft back in the 70’s). The movie still can suck but I must admit this is a nice and smart move.

So Not-Jan Ors and Prince Caspian team up with Cheroot the stoned hippie “spiritual warrior” to fight the evil Director Orson Welles?

I’d watch it.

There have been a couple more Thrawn hints lately. Dave Filoni posted a photo of the SW logo on the spine of a Legends book that some claim to have identified as Heir to the Empire with a caption that included “Remember, there’s always some truth in legends” in reference to an upcoming Rebels season 3 panel, and there’s a blue guy in a white uniform on the Where’s Waldo-style Celebration poster (which would seem pretty meaningless, but there are no other obvious Legends references, so it might be important). I think the most obvious lead we have right now was the fleet admiral from Aftermath, so hopefully we get some kind of resolution when Life Debt comes out next month.

Could now be time for Lucasfilm to re-release a TCW boxset with the movie and the final season (and episodes in chronological order ? Would be great but I don’t see it happening) and, if possible, the first series in HD quality as well as bonus material. I hope it will be explained how Saw Gerrera got that fat in 20 years.

The character had blue eyes in TCW, but they didn’t bother giving Whittaker blue contact lenses to wear to preserve continuity?

I dunno why they’d want to make these kinds of tie-ins (I don’t like that silly show), but, since they are, they should probably make him look like whoever this character is. Otherwise, why not just make him a new character?
(He’s new to me either way, so I guess it don’t matter none.)
I’m surprised that anyone would care though.

Um, I would assume he ate a lot during said 20 years.
I hardly think that is what requires a backstory here. I’d be more curious as to how his eye colour changed from blue to brown over 20 years. Now that’s something the EU will need to make a contrived explanation for in the future.

I hardly think it would be too much of a stretch to assume that this character was written as an original character for RO then someone at Lucasfilm noticed some similarities to Saw Gerrera and asked them to change the name so that RO could tie in with the EU. I doubt that Gareth Edwards or any of the screenwriters where actively trying to include TCW characters.

Who said anything about watching it again ? It can be put in a boxset for completist’s sake, that’s all. The best option would be to release the movie the way it was supposed to be: as a few episodes, that way you can at least watch the first meeting between Ahsoka and Anakin without enduring the “son of Jabba” assignment.

Yeah, he just went on a Steven Seagal/Carrie Fisher diet.

Gary Whitta seemed excited about the reveal, Leland Chee said they’ve been planning this for 4 years, and Pablo Hidalgo said on the Star Wars Show yesterday that they decided to include this character and Whittaker was their dream casting.

As for his eye color, it’s a bummer they didn’t have him wear contacts (or CG every shot, this is Star Wars, which they could still do), but who says he’s human and that his eyes don’t change color when he’s not on his native planet’s atmosphere or something.
