TV Series You Didn't Like But Kept Watching

Did your favourite show jump the shark? Didn’t care? Didn’t realize??

Did something start out well, go downhill and drag you with it?

Are you “forced” to watch garbage with friends or family?

Do you just watch too much TV?

If you picked a “jumped the shark” moment and stopped watching something then I guess you can post that too, Mr. Smartypants.

Smallville: Stopped enjoying it somewhere in Season 2, watched the entire show and hated myself for it.

Stargate: My brother bought them all on DVD and I just… watched them all.  : (

Heroes: Season 1 was great. Season 2 was not. Then it just got worse. I stayed til the end.

Modern Family: The first two or three seasons were good… I think…

Ultimate Spider-Man: Hated nearly everything about it from the beginning; watched every episode.

Rebels: I really wanted to like it. Don’t much. I’ll be back.

The Last Man on Earth: Hated it by the end of the first episode. Like some kind of horrific train wreck that I can’t look away from.

For whatever reason I watched The Walking Dead all the way through season 5. Stopped being good after the first season. The sad thing is I wouldn’t put it past me to watch season 6 at some point.

During my first year at university, I was living in a 17 square meter appartement with only one room. So when I had to get up in the morning, I turned on the TV to not fall back asleep and the only thing that wasn’t an infomercial or a morning show was Eureka. So even though I didn’t really liked it, I watchted it almost daily. I didn’t hate it, but it’s certainly not a show I’d watch for enjoyment.

Season 6 of The Walking Dead is one of the best, I thought.

Yep, add Eureka to my list. I liked it for a little while…

Season 10 of The Simpsons is no worse overall than seasons 8 or 9. It actually declined a bit after season 7. The show didn’t become truly bad until half-way through season 11. The definitive “jumping the shark” moment for The Simpsons was when they killed off Maude. I believe Brad Bird also stepped down as creative consultant around this point.

One of the reasons that I had removed cable and broadcast T.V. service from my life over ten years ago was so I would never have this type of problem again. The only time I ever get to see what they are broadcasting is when I go on vacation and make the error of turning on the T.V. at the resort.

I haven’t watched either since I got broadband internet. I pick a show I want to watch and watch it with no commercials. If it’s good, I keep watching. If it’s bad, well… sometimes I keep watching for some reason. But sometimes I stop! I guess you have a valid point.

NuGalactica: Loved the mini-series. The series actual had its moments but mostly made me sleepy. I ploughed through.

I gave up at the end of the third season.
The dick waving in season 2 was the zenith of annoyance, I can well believe it got better later but the damage was done.

I have a similar relationship with Orphan Black. I never really liked it but the better half liked it and once in a while I found it tolerable.

Torchwood was mostly awful too but Children of Earth was rather good and worth watching, the rest of it was weird tonally. It felt like a 14 year old had been given a brief to write an ‘adult’ show. It was a child’s idea of what the adult world is like.

True Blood

First two seasons were fucking great and the third was pretty damn good but from there on the show turned to shit and never recovered. From bad pacing, side characters getting way more time than they deserved (even half of an episode was dedicated to a funeral for one of these characters) and even the main story lines being poorly written at times and having little payoff. Also in Season 5 they falsely advertised what a story line would be.

I also watched Season 8 of Dexter…This one requires no explanation but I should have stopped with either Season 4 or Season 7.

Under The Dome - by the 4th episode I knew it was garbage but kept watching because it was hilarously bad. Although I gave up early on in Season 3, and when it got cancelled I never caught up.

Under the Dome.

I enjoyed it at first, but it just got completely farcical, but I kept watching for a while anyway.

Under the Dome was unintentionally funny, but the charm had worn off by the 2nd season.

Exactly. By season 2 is must have cut its budget because it looked terrible, and the story got even more insane. Season 1 felt like a Steven King book, but things turned into Plan 9 from Outer Space pretty quickly.

Pretty Little Liars. Lots of beautiful people and an absolutely cracking, twisting and surprising storyline until the third season. I loved it. It’s been shark jumping ever since and has just entered the “evil twin” stage of ridiculousness. I nearly gave up last year but then they announced it was finishing soon so I kept on watching. I hate it, and I regularly laugh at how bad it is. But I never miss an episode! Mental.

LOST, I guess. I enjoyed the discussion of the show so much that I continued watching, but I can’t say I liked the show itself towards the end.
