Just looked at the sellers reviews last night (yes, I should have before ordering) and they aren’t good… Nobody’s complaining that they never got their stuff though. So hopefully I’m worried for nothin’.

Well, I think that’s it for the old laptop I’ve been using for the past couple years.
At around 8:00 tonight, the goddamn thing crashed while I was out of the room. When I went to reboot it, the stupid computer froze, so I restarted it again. For two hours I spent restarting the computer over-and-over again, used System Restore twice see if that would fix things, but nothing worked; it just kept freezing minutes after logging back in.
I’ll try logging in on that laptop again tomorrow, but there’s a 70% chance it’s finally kaput. I didn’t have any real important files on it or anything, so I’m not mortified at the loss, just mildly pissed off that I spent all that time rebooting it for nothing. I’ve got a secondary laptop, anyway, that’s newer and has been used less, so it’s not like I’m going to be deprived of Internet access for any great length of time.
Having a backup machine is almost mandatory these days. I’ve kept my old flip phone alive for the same reason. There are so many cracks in it’s casing, I’m amazed it hasn’t fallen apart. It actually gets better reception than my current phone.
Unfortunately it’s not a 3g phone, and is going to be a paperweight when the phone companies phase out 2g service this year. I was amazed tracfone offered me a free replacement for my antique, but it probably won’t be as nice.
And I’m sure it will have some hidden tracking device that can used for sinister purposes. 😉
I find it amusing I can easily use even a 50 year old telephone in my house, but a cell phone can become useless in less than a decade.

I gave in and upgraded Windows from 8 to 10. I did some research and felt happy reverting would be easy if I didn’t like it.
The overlong process deleted all the drivers and more than a few pieces of software. I tried to roll back the system but was told I couldn’t. I tried using the factory reset partition on start up to reinstall Windows 8. Windows 10 had erased that too - the partition was still there, it had just blanked it for some reason.
I have since used my old laptop to install Windows 7 and spent hours getting the drivers sorted. I then decided to install Ubuntu on the old laptop as I’d wanted to try it for a while. It installed quickly, cleanly and came with every driver required ready to go - all for free. Microsoft and their high-priced software have certainly got a lot to learn!
I like Windows 7 and I like Linux too so it’s turned out well I suppose.
But really. Grr, a bit of yay, but grr in general.

I’ve got half a dozen friends going through suicidal crisis at the moment and while I am really glad they feel comfortable being open about it and I’m using whatever knowledge and training I’ve had over they years to try to help, I just despair at how cruel the human world can be that so many people think I’m worthy of turning to for support. I wish I was more useful, more resourceful, more wealthy and could boss the twits that control everything around more (without shrinking them to death).
