“Modern remake” as in “a remake set in the modern day instead of the original period”?

I think you know the answer to that question.

I honestly wasn’t sure what he meant by modern.

“Modern” = “made in the late '90s-present”

I mean, I didn’t lose respect for Jeff Bridges when he starred in the remake of True Grit, because it was superior to the original film adaptation (and really anything else starring John Wayne, for that matter).

I don’t consider alternate film adaptations remakes.

I’m sorry, I just don’t think his acting is anything spectacular. As far as I’m concerned, he’s pretty much average and overrated.

Oh, and…

…Bridges delivered that line better. To be precise: he delivered that whole film better.

Shouldn’t you be watching Mask of the Phantasm?

I agree with Dek about John Wayne, he plays the same character in every movie and the new version of True Grit has a way better lead. I’ve never really been a western fan so maybe I just don’t “get it” but all of John Wayne’s and Clint Eastwood’s films are pretty much the same, I’ve never cared for them (don’t hate me).

You used to be funny and intelligent, but I just don’t what happened. I’m not hatin’. I don’t think the Duke is that great of an actor. So what? And I haven’t listened to enough of Gram Parsons music to hate on him.

I’m glad you understand what I mean, but Clint Eastwood was the key actor I was comparing Wayne to in my mind 😄. I love good westerns, and Clint is great in pretty much all of his western roles.

A man in my town once ran for sheriff. Although his name was not John Wayne, he told people to call him that. He was also totally insane, but I can’t remember what exactly it was he did that let everyone know that as this was long ago. Anyway, he lost the election greatly.

I’ll go ahead and forfeit any credibility I had… I hate John Wayne.

Missed the joke.

I didn’t get it either.

Technically speaking, it was just an attempt at humour and not an actual joke.

EDIT: By the way, I take it as a personal compliment every time Warbler responds to a post of mine.

You thought he was referring to the Duke, but he was actually an avid John Wayne Gacy fan.

I go back and read threads from 2003 sometimes. I wish that were how OT.com was today.

Not enough people read the EU.

John Wayne was from a different era than Clint Eastwood, so I don’t think it’s fair to compare their acting and their films. I am ahem not the world’s biggest John Wayne fan either, but I understand that it’s just a preference thing. John Ford is my least favorite of the big Western directors, but I do enjoy The Man who Shot Liberty Valance and The Searchers.

And this picture of me taken last night deserves to be posted somewhere on this site, so it’s going here.

JEDIT: It needs a random thought to go with it, so my random thought is that I like that “Otter Disgrace” shirt that has a picture of an otter giving the finger, which is unfortunately covered by the exclamation mark.
