I’m actually fairly satisfied with Comcast.

Interesting! I know some people who constantly complain about their Comcast service.

If there’s one thing that Reddit hates more than those who oppose Bernie Sanders, it’s Comcast.

Well, since they own Universal and NBC, avoiding them completely is going to be a tad difficult. 😉

Almost every year now the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts a group or individual who has absolutely no place in the Hall of Fame. I find it especially irritating when rap/hip-hop groups get in. Maybe Run-D.M.C. could qualify as rock . . . maaaaybe, but still, so many important rock musicians have yet to be inducted so why are they choosing all these non-rock related musicians?

Yes, exactly.

Well why didn’t you say so before?! 😄

It’s all controlled by sell-outs whoring out to the lowest common denominator.

Come a decade or so, “rock ‘n’ roll” will stand for “rock music” as much as “MTV” stands for “music television” today.

I can’t even listen to mainstream music that comes out today. There is still some talent out there but you have to search for it.

When I was 13-16 years old, my mom forbade me from talking to girls. She said that all teenage girls are hell-bent on ruining my life and that she was protecting me from the pain of not being liked by others. When I was 16, I almost commited suicide because this rule was so painful.

The fact that Madonna is in there ruined it for me. Also that Stevie Ray Vaughan and Green Day got inducted on the same year. Not saying necessarily that Green Day doesn’t deserve to be in it, but SRV should have been in years ahead of them.

Green Day really got me. I have very mixed feelings about their music, and don’t want them in the hall. You’re right though that SRV and many others should have been added years ago.

Damn, sorry to hear about that bro.

I don’t like them at all but didn’t want to get into a debate with anyone about it. 😉

I agree. The fact that they were in the Hall before the Cars, Deep Purple, or Nick Drake (who I doubt they’ll ever induct) makes me physically ill.

Regardless of HOF credentials, I’d say Green Day is a better band than The Cars, and I like The Cars.

Nothing The Cars made was ever as good as American Idiot.

I really have tried to enjoy Green Day, but I just can’t get into them. The only album of theirs that I think is OK is Dookie. One reason I dislike them is because they have always been more of a pop band masquerading as a punk band. Then again Blondie blurred the lines between the two and I like them, so I’m not sure. Something about Green Day always just rubbed me the wrong way.

Again though, I can bring myself to tolerate Green Day’s induction as a difference in opinion and taste; it is the inclusion of groups like NWA, Beastie Boys, Grandmaster Flash, and pretty much any rap group that gets me. Some people didn’t like ABBA or Donna Summer’s inclusion, but I wasn’t too bothered by those, I just don’t like inducting rap/hip-hop groups. Keep them in the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. You don’t see the Clash getting inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame so why should Public Enemy be in the Rock Hall of Fame?

If you don’t think rap groups belong, then neither do ABBA or Donna Summer. What’s the difference?

Disco music evolved out of elements of rock to an extent, and ABBA borders on rock just barely enough at times in order for me to not be disturbed by their inclusion. If I were in charge of the Hall of Fame I ABBA and Summer would’ve been some of my last choices (I probably wouldn’t have thought to include them at all TBH).

Run-DMC bordered just enough on rock for me to accept their induction.

The only Green Day album I like is Insomniac. Dookie’s okay but Insomniac is their best work IMO.

There is clearly something I am missing in this group…and in this song…

My vote would remain with the Cars…

I would also suggest that inductions should be limited to after a performer has retired in order to better document their entire catalog of exploits. 😉

Not the song, the album. Taken as a whole, it’s superior to any album The Cars made. And again, I like The Cars.

Under your retirement suggestion, bands like The Rolling Stones and U2 would still not be eligible. 25 years after the first album seems reasonable to me.
