All those AOTC shots with animals look good, and better than the JP t-rex considering that CG usually looks a lot worse in bright light. The t-rex’s head looks great, but where the light is shining on the top of his leg it doesn’t look too good.

please stop playing video games right now and go out and experience the world. You are spending so much time playing them that you are forgetting what real objects look like. Well thats the only reason i can think of that would make you think those AOTC animals look good.

I don’t like video games.

Incoming witty remarks about how I actually do because the prequels looks like video games.

I dislike TFA for reasons other than the presence of reality. I actually liked that. I’m certain Swagma… loves how Maz and Snoke look.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

You gotta give the man more credit than that. Even people like myself who enjoyed TFA didn’t like the look of those two…well Snoke would have been fine if they went for something practical.

Snoke is just generic Serkis mocap character one million, and Maz was screaming “we want the Yoda audience”.

I was referring to the poor CGI work done on them, not the characters themselves. Though, I didn’t like their characters very much anyway.

I think they should have gone with practical effects with her too although I would probably feel the same way due to some reason I would never be able to explain.

You can’t feel any sort of way about Snoke just like you can’t feel any sort of way about Palpatine in ESB. Had he had more lines like

[Snoke said:]
“It is where you are from. What you are made of. The Dark Side—and the Light. The finest sculptor cannot fashion a masterpiece from poor materials. He must have something pure, something strong, something unbreakable, with which to work.” - Supreme Leader Snoke

I would feel better about him but we didn’t get any of that in the film. Him projecting himself as 30 feet tall is an interesting tid bit though.

Strange thing is, Snoke looked pretty good for the most part when i saw it in 2D. The 3D really didn’t help him. The close up shots looked the best. Others have been pixel f**ked too much with atmospherics and such. I thought Maz looked amazing though. The movement and especially the clothing rendering was perfect. Even better in 2D.

They did try to do Maz as a practical effect, but it wasn’t possible.

Snoke looks a bit artificial but I attribute that to the lighting and the sort of translucent look it gives to the character. Of course the purpose of this is that he’s a hologram (also I’d imagine why he’s somewhat desaturated). The detail on him is pretty good and overall he’s way better looking than any PT CG character.

Max looks great to me. Yoda comparisons are pretty far off-base and just people stretching to paint everything in the film as an OT rip-off.

Yes because in a galaxy with trillions of sentients ONLY the Jedi/Sith are able to use/understand The Force…

I just wish they would have made her taller as to completely nullify any comparison between the two. It’s already bad enough people think the scene in Maz’s castle is a rip off of the cantina scene in ANH even though they have absolutely no similarities plot wise.

Perhaps Jurassic Park’s CGI is held in better regard to the prequels because the actual film is great. One of my top ten films.

Not enough people read the EU.

God damn, I just watched Jurassic Park a week or two ago, but I might have to again tomorrow (I didn’t know this 35mm version existed before now, so there’s an excuse). That was the first movie I ever obsessed over, before Star Wars even.

I can’t believe you’re actually saying these two characters looked fine on screen (I saw it in 2D too) : had they used good CGI, nobody in this forum would’ve even noticed it, instead here we are still talking about their CGI 😄

They did try to do Maz as a practical effect, but it wasn’t possible.

With little effort and greater results, I think they could’ve done Maz as a practical effect like they did with Yogurt:

P.S.: Dek Rollins, your avatar is pretty old-school, I like it 😉

are you guys for real?

A question I have asked myself about you.

In general yes I’m being serious. All 3 images dinosaurs seem more tangible to me. But to be fair anything looks better than this.

I can make better special effects with my fecal matter.

I love the non-textured protocol droids standing near c3po, it’s like they gave up and just left the models alone.

I see. Sorta like The Godfather was just Marlon Brando oscar winning performance one million. Come on Andy, put some effort in!

Wow. I thought ILM weren’t bringing their A-Game to the PT… but jesus.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
