And we also need a movie to explain what the heck is up with General Madine’s Gumby hair.

For the last time, he’s one of them…

Me too. She and Ackbar had a torrid love affair in the early days of the Rebellion.

Dude, so many people had haircuts like that in the 70’s. What gets me every time with that character is the astroturf beard. They just glued that thing on his face half an hour before his scene. Somebody cut it out of a sheet of felt from the craft store down the street because they ran out of fake hair.

Return of The Jedi was filmed in the 80’s. Madine could be related to the species Harvey Korman played the HS though. 😉

I’d forgotten I made that first post.

Regardless, I’m firm in my stance now. Madine officially drinks through a hole in the top of his head.

Is anyone else concerned that apparently the reason why the reason they are already narrowing down the casting is for a cameo in Rogue One? I don’t see where Han Solo would fit into a story revolving around stealing the Death Star plans.

Easy:
Rebels crew need some equipment and more men for the mission. They go to Jabba’s palace to hire some “talents” and buy some technical things. They Meet Han Solo who declines the mission because they don’t want to tell him what it’s all about and because Jabba already gave him a mission anyway (Chewie’s roars of approval to end the scene and here’s your cameo!)

EDIT: my problem is that they want to make a younger Han Solo and Rogue One, as far as I know, is set right before Episode 4.

Exactly. It seems impossible unless somehow the rebels stole the plans and then it took 10 years or more to get the plans to Leia or they give the plans to a 11 yr old Leia who is not allowed to access the plans until she is of age like some kind of trust fund which would be very lame.

Christ just make him a man. Han Solo was never a cheeky young boy. Han Solo was always a man. I dont want to know what it was that scarred him. I dont want to see a Tiger Beat Teen Solo where they’re in Galactic High School. I dont need to know his orphanage or whether his mother was abducted by Sand People.

Solo should be an episodic unconnected galactic adventure film. I dont need to know him as a child. And besides kids in the Star Wars galaxy suck.

You guys are putting far too much stock into such a baseless rumor. There’ve been no official reports and none of the movie news sites I follow have made a peep about it.

Of the very little we know about the film, we’ve been specifically told this is NOT an origin story. And he’s early to mid twenties. Hardly a child. And his age probably has more to do with some distance from ANH than wanting to show him as a “kid.”

That’s exactely why I said that making a younger Han Solo (or at least casting an actor who is 10 years younger than Ford was in 77) for his standalone movie makes it doubtful that they’d use that actor for a cameo in Rogue One.
But if they really want it, there are plenty of ways to have a Solo cameo. All they need is having solo not knowing about the Death Star.

Having just seen Brooklyn I can honestly say that the best choice for young Han Solo might very well be Emory Cohen. He’s got the look, the smile, the charm, the sense of humor, and, most importantly, the talent. If they go with him I think we’ll be in for a real treat.

Trust in Larry Kasdan, lads.

Well TFA was a letdown in terms of story/sreenplay. I would assume Kasdan was forced to work within the rehash framework of TFA. Therefore I hope he will have free hands on this one so that we may get something more interesting.

On the other hand I am not really fond of Han Solo backstory film.

After seeing Age of Adeline, I hope they cast Anthony Ingruber, he played an excellent young William Jones (Harrison Ford’s character).

Ingruber is the only choice. I’m convinced that the Star Wars gods had him bred expressly for this purpose. I mean he literally looks like a clone of Harrison Ford. I would say that he might have been acquainted with his mother but the resemblance is too uncanny for him to even just be his son. He must have been created in a laboratory. His impressions are spot on too. He has the persona, the inflection, the facial expressions, everything down pat. If he did a good enough job then he could easily make everyone forget we’re not watching a young Harrison Ford again.

Plus they’d be getting a new Indy to boot. 😉

They’re not going to go for Ingruber, because they’re going to want to hire an actor to play the lead role in their multi million dollar blockbuster.

I don’t think there’s any way the film is going to ‘work’, so it’s probably somewhat pointless to argue about. Casting Ingruber would be a massive, and potentially hilarious mistake. But I think the fact that people are rallying behind the idea just goes to show that when it comes to Han Solo, people want the character himself exactly as they know him, and not just stories about his life. The support for Ingruber is the support against the idea of making the film at all.

It seems to come mostly from people who think ‘oh god, this is horrible. I can’t believe they’re doing it. But if they have to, I guess they should use this lookalike’. Even if greenlighting this movie ends up being a mistake, Disney is making the right move by not catering to the people who think that ‘the thing is doomed to fail anyway, so might as well get the character looking like Harrison’.

So… they’re going to cast Chris Pratt?

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.

Are you saying Ingruber can’t act?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3452021/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

River Phoenix played young Indy in Last Cruysade, and Harrison’s son in The Mosquito Coast. I imagine that had a lot to with resembling Ford in some way. The same also applies to Sean Patrick Flannery in the Young Indy tv series.

And I want to see this movie. I think it’s a good idea if there’s a good script. The Brian Daley Han Solo novels were my favorites as a kid, not that there was much else EU material around back then.

I don’t know whether or not Ingruber can act, but I definitely know Emory Cohen can. My vote’s for him, he can totally pull it off.

And towne32 you’re completely right. I think it’s pretty silly the fact that so many are so rigid in their belief that he needs to be an exact lookalike.

He has acted and he did a pretty good job playing a young Harrison Ford already.

Besides, the original Star Wars used unknowns. That’s how Ford became a star in the first place. This tradition was continued for TFA and I don’t see why they wouldn’t here.
