Frink, why defending TFA? Are you saying there won’t be any “The Ridiculous Awakening”? What’s wrong with you, man!? Now I’m disappointed! 😄

Not sure what that means?

In any case, it’s possible to like something and make fun of it. The Monty Python troupe love the Arthurian legends, but they ripped them with Holy Grail.

I’ve loved Star Wars parody ever since Hardware Wars came out.

Takodana and especially Irish island with shitty weather. It just doesn’t feel like Star Wars.

Why is it less a Star Wars locale than Tunisia, Quatemala, or a glacier in Norway?

At least it’s a real place, not a green screen set. 😉

Complain if the whole set is CGI, complain if it’s real. No win scenario.

Kobayashi Maru. 😉

Well what can I say… it just is. Feel is a feel… if I could derive you a formula for a feeling I would but I cannot. I guess it takes a talent to pick the right stuff. When Lucas was in change he and his team seemed to always be able to do it right.

Not that ruling out that Irish island in a shitty weather require any talent. It is a common sense. In the last scene I felt like I was on Craggy Island with Father Ted.

I have never complained about CGI. I stated a few times that CGI can easily be better than real set in some cases.

If they used an Irish island in 1977 and Tunisia in 2015, I guarantee you would have said it was Tunisia that didn’t feel like Star Wars.

You cannot guarantee that. I still dislike (feel-wise) a few of the original scenes from ANH for the very same reason.

So you don’t like the quicksand explanation. Why? Is quicksand impossible?

In an arid desert, yes, quicksand is impossible. The concept of “dry quicksand” has never been demonstrated to exist in nature. Real quicksand, the stuff that occurs naturally, requires lots of water. Here’s a great video demonstrating what quicksand really is:

https://youtu.be/JHCW_bqWLTo

But hey, it’s a movie. Check your brain at the door, I guess. Movies aren’t supposed to make sense.

Wait…what?

Right, because The Force, hyperspace, lightsabers, aliens that live for hundreds of years, blasters, space stations that can blow up a planet, and walking carpets have all been demonstrated to exist in nature.

The question that was posed to me was, “Is quicksand impossible?”

So that’s not why you didn’t like it then?

And regardless, it’s a fucking movie in space. Quicksand doesn’t have to follow Earth rules, because the movie does not take place on Earth. So no, quicksand in a desert is not impossible because it’s not an Earth desert.

Let me know when you can link to a video explaining how quicksand works on Jakku.

Well if you make a nice cake and you put a little piece of feces inside a tiny part of the cake, that tiny part will most certainly not feel like the overall cake.

This thread is the tiny part of feces in the ot.com forum cake.

Before anyone goes ape over that statement, it’s absolutely fine to not like TFA, and I have some issues with it myself. But my god some of the bending over backwards just trying to justify hating TFA by some (not all) here is amazing.

Well that’s not really the point, everything ANH should feel like star wars, it IS star wars.

Everything in that cake is the cake, but will that certain tiny part feel like the rest of the cake?

If it’s an entire set/world/location, it should, as it’s the establishing film. So yes it should still feel like star wars even with it’s faults.

Would you be able to stand by this claim if it come to eating the above-mentioned cake?

No, because you eat a cake. Last I knew, I didn’t have to taste or lick the icing off of a movie.

It is just a matter of sensory unit (taste vs vision)… little does it matter when the information is in the brain. The principle is the same.
