Episode IV: A Ridiculous Hope

Yes, you read the title right.

I've been doing a bit of thinking about what I want to do with Vader in ROTR. No real good ideas yet, but whatever I come up with, I started thinking about how it would be fun to carry it through to the OT. And then I realized that I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to bring back GOB and Denny, to use Carrie from Blues Brothers and Harrison as Indy, to subtitle Chewie, to do something truly ridiculous with the Emperor (Mr. Burns?)...

So consider this semi-officially in the planning stages. Actual work won't start for at least a year, until ROTR is either fully or mostly done, but this thread can be used for brainstorming and archiving of ideas.

One of the first things I need to figure out is what source to use.  HD doesn't make any sense because I'm sure I'll be mixing in other sources that will only be available to me in SD.  Having said that, I suppose I could use Harmy's Despec'd Editions, rendered down to SD quality.  Other options include the 2004 DVDs (warts and all) and dark_jedi's GOUT sourced project.  Whatever I use, I'll be using the accompanying audio so that everything syncs ok.

And off we go...

Thank the Maker!

Ridiculizing the SE's is the only way to go. The OOT hasn't done anyone any harm. ;)

I'd love to see the 1997 Jabba get his just desserts...

Rewrite Jabba's subtitles, and it could be gold. Not to mention it ends with Boba looking right into the camera. "Oh Hai!"

I did a video on youtube a while back that had Michael Scott from The Office on the rebellion's comlink.

Not sure if it would fit with your edit, but feel free to use any ideas from it if you want.

Don't know why but I'm imagining Vader redubbed by Arnold Schwarzenegger would be hilarious. The possibilities are endless with his films and abundance of one liners. It would be like the producers of Batman and Robin had made Star Wars lol

"Commander tear this ship apart, find those passengers, I want them alive"

becomes

"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the women" (Conan The Barbarian)

With David Prowse's size it's believable that Arnie would be the guy in the suit.

… And they had ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, the fifth of the four Star Wars films. He is fucking with us numerically, isn’t he! “Children, count up to ten.” “Four, five, six, one, two, three, ten”. No, it goes, four, five, six, one, two, three… No, it goes: four, five, six. One… Two and three have not been made." “Two and three have not been made! What should they be?” “What should they be? We do not know. All we know is that there will be a big floppy character in it that goes, squawk squawk squawk… who needs a punch up the bracket!” - Eddie Izzard, “Circle”, 2000

I wouldn't be against Arnold as Darth Vader. Lots of potential there, depending on which films are used.

How about rebubbing Vader as Johnny 5?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVtojNukkA0

'Short Circuit 2' is one of the 20 greatest films ever made, don't let anybody tell you different.

It would really pay off in RESB when Vader shouts "Your momma was a snowblower!" to Luke during the Duel.

Or perhaps, Vader as Malcolm Tucker from 'The Thick Of It/In The Loop'...

Although aren't these films supposed to kid friendly so maybe not.

Wait, wait, wait... how about Basil Fawlty as Vader. I would die laughing...

Make Vader sound like a battle droid. A truly ridiculous idea.

One idea would be when Han Solo calls the Stormtroopers onboard the Millennium Falcon to ambush them and steal their uniforms, there be lots of violent sounds, laser blasts, a few punches, someone yelling "grenade!" followed by an explosion that shakes the screen... then when Luke steps out all he has is a faulty transmitter.

Just an overexaggerated version of the laser blast continuity error, basically.

A Tom (from Tom & Jerry) scream would fit very well in there.

I heard Rick Astley in the supermarket today, and could barely explain why it's so funny to the person I was with.

I hope there's some way for Watto to come back. Maybe he's finally made it in the pizza biz, and Han lost a vital shipment of dough? Clieg Lars could still be puttering around the farm muttering about those vicious mushrooms...

Shortest version ever: The Star Destroyer actually hits the Tantive IV, blowing it up, along with Leia, R2D2, and C3PO. Droids never hook up with Luke, Luke never hooks up with Ben, Ben never hooks up with Solo.

End Credits. :D

Whoopsy.

That does make me wonder though what you'll call Vader?
