Be careful what you get super duper excited for.

I think I’ll be just fine. I’m as much excited to be seeing another feature film on IMAX 15/70 (something I thought Interstellar was likely the last time I might ever get to do) as I am to see a new Star Wars movie. And while I was skeptical at first, they’ve slowly won me over and I think this has a lot of potential to actually be a good Star Wars movie. But if it sucks, oh well, I’ve still got the OT (thanks to the awesome community here!) and I can still enjoy the Star Wars movies that made me a fan to begin with.

Hard to believe we are actually in December now, with not much longer before TFA is finally released. I am very eager and so ready for it… wearing a different Star Wars shirt each day up to its release as my kind of advent calendar 😃 Anyone here going to be camping out at all?

After successfully avoiding the final trailer for over a month, I was dragged to see the Hunger Games in the theatre and couldn’t bring myself to sprint out of the theatre or pull my hoodie over my head when the TFA trailer played.

I’m so glad I avoided up until that point so I could experience it for the first time on the big screen. It was the first time that I can remember where I saw a trailer for a movie that I was eagerly anticipating on a big screen in a long time. So much more incredible than it would have been on Monday Night Football or a computer screen.

I sat there with a big dumb smile on my face the entire time while the my friends and family glanced over to me, knowing that I hadn’t seen the trailer before.

Even if the movie is garbage (I can’t imagine it will be), I’ll forever remember the joy that this trailer brought me when I had no idea what to expect.

So for those of you who still haven’t seen anything from the film, keep it up! It will be so goddamn worth it.

I think I am going to give it a real shot for VIII. I’ve not wanted to know plot details for TFA, but have been far too curious about what the aesthetics are like to hold back. I’ve mostly only been exposed to information that has been officially released (though, in many cases, far earlier than it came through the official channels), but I’m still feeling like I know a bit more than I would like.

I know what you mean, yet I have a very strong feeling that there is a ton of stuff that we know nothing about yet.

In addition to a certain someone who has not been featured in any footage or stills, I’m willing to bet several exciting sequences or locations are still being kept under wraps.

I’m sure you’re right. But there’s an extra thrill involved in having lots of the sets and shots brand new. I don’t imagine I’ll ever be someone who leaves the room when a trailer comes on, but I can probably avoid seeking them out, as well as all the info being dropped in interviews, etc.

But a lot of giving in this time had to do with the fear of it sucking or, alternatively, the possibility of a return to greatness (or non-suckiness). If TFA is good enough to give me faith in the franchise, I might not be as willing to check out spoilers. Plus, there will actually be an ongoing story to be invested in, rather than simply the curiosity of what the hell we’re going to be dropped into.

Is it me or are they missing a massive trick? Correct me if I’m wrong but its not been rated yet. BUT I attempted to prebook the seats for the cinema and only adult, senior and student came up as options!! This makes me believe that it is going to rated 12 in the Uk?? Which takes all their market out, why sell toys and merchandise when the kids can’t even see the film??? Not counting the terrible prequels the OT was U rating, if they are adding gore in just to make the film darker then they are on the wrong track!

It is PG-13. This was announced a day or so after JJ said they had nothing left to do but color tweaking.

It was rated a week or two ago, but there were TV spots that came out after the rating still said not yet rated, presumably due to when they were produced.

I don’t know anything about UK ratings systems. But here, anyone can see a PG-13 film with a guardian present. It’s just that a bunch of 11 year olds can’t walk in by themselves, in theory (they probably can in reality). PG-13 did not exist during the OT years. It was made to find a middle ground when Temple of Doom came out, if I recall. The rating is fine by me, and certainly doesn’t indicate what I would consider “gore”.

By gore i was referring to the terrible ROS which was a 12 rating, presumably because it was so SHIT! I was hoping to take both my children…

Well, we will surely have members here on the 16th or 17th who can try to give insight as to whether or not it will be appropriate. My guess is that they’re going to shoot for as wide a market as possible, of course.

I hope to have seen it by a similar time just to put my mind at rest.

Terrific interview with Lawrence Kasdan in the L.A. Times.

It’s astounding how much everyone involved in that article is–tactfully–shitting all over the PT.
“Oh, that was just George being George and going through some personal stuff. Now let’s talk about the actual movies.”
The franchise is getting so post-Lucas that the OT release is inevitable.
But…in how long?

Did we read the same article?

I don’t buy the prequels being thrown under the landspeeder thing. I saw a new Jar Jar figure at Fry’s earlier this week.

Is it a spoiler to reveal that yes, I am in the movie like you were hoping?

I ride up on horseback at the end of the movie and interrupt the wedding for the robot ball and the vacuum cleaner, so I can be the one to give away the robot ball.

Nah, skip the TFA cameo. We need a Ric Olie spinoff movie.

It’s crazy that we’re so close. I’ll be leaving the internet pretty soon, once the film has premiered (Dec. 14 I think it is?). Not because of spoilers, but because I don’t even want to know what people think of the movie until I see it. The truth is, with a movie like this, with a franchise that so many hold so personally, the only opinion that really matters is your own.

Oddly enough, once I’ve seen the movie and I check reactions, the one I’m most interested to see is those for whom TFA will be their first Star Wars film.

Here’s GL’s money quote from the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington D.C. when asked about having seen “The Force Awakens”:

"I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for."

I’m going to see it with a girl who hasn’t seen any SW films. I’m also interested what she thinks about it…

Watching the press conferences and the numbers press junkets online I did come up with what I thought might be an answerable and perhaps interesting question. At least, it’s interesting to me. Some of these questions are death.

Question: Did someone besides Lawrence Kasdan or JJ Abrams write the opening crawl?

It’s fairly well known that Brian De Palma wrote and re-shaped what George had originally written for the SW77.

That’s an interesting question and in all honesty, I have no idea who actually wrote the OT crawls.
