Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 140

Also noticed that the video/panel also confirms and/or suggests a few elements from the rumors.

-crashed tie fighter (at least first time it's  official)

-Finn's Jakku clothing is actually Poe's from earlier in the film.

-it looks like Poe is on the Jakku at the same time Kylo and his troopers come to torch a town, and is clearly captured.  You can see his x-wing.  That's probbly Finn escorting him to escape.

-Rey is piloting the Falcon in the IMAX scene.

-that shot of the people running down a corridor might be from the rumored pirate attack on Han's freighter

-also seems like starkiller base might have something to do with the rumored new superweapons, or at least is the first order base on that ice-like planet.

For me, I think I'll just have to see the execution of the story, cause so far it sounds like something that could be good, but it could also be bad.

TPM has a good, well constructed story

What? There is another version of TPM?

Well, the basic plot structure is something that TPM actually did wrong. It has a beginning, and escalation in the middle and a big climax in the end. It even kept the use of lightsabers at a minimum so that the last fight would be more exiting. It also avoided showing us the first fight between Qui-Gon and Maul in order to make the last fight seem much more intense. AOTC and ROTS on the other hand have completely nonsensical plot structures. AOTC doen't really have a story as much as it's a very, very long build-up to a not so interesting final battle. ROTS on the other hand was basically just several climaxes with brakes in the between. It starts with a lightsaber battle, has several in the middle and ends with two of them at the same time. TPM may have had pretty bad writing, and to much CGI, but it did at least have a SW-type plot-structure, and even some well balanced action scenes.

I'm merely pondering what sort of new dimension this community will have in a year. It's going to happen, we just don't know in what way. It's absolutely incredible that we're going to have new Star Wars in five months. But I also find it incredible that at some point later, VII is going to be a part of the Star Wars catalogue and history. It's real and it will be treated as such. For better or worse. For work of art or raw material.

Fair enough - it may well be a different story after December. It just seems a strange culture we're in where the discussion doesn't revolve around the brand new film coming our way, but rather what we can do to 'fix' it once it's in our hands.

New Star Wars should be special enough on its own, as that lovely comic-con reel demonstrates (for me, anyway).

 Frink's version is superior. ;)

Well - I haven't got a clue what TPM was about. AOTC and ROTC were really stupid, but at least I knew what's going on. TPM seemed just like a bunch of nonsensical boring scenes glued together. I have to get Frink's version

Frink's version is all about the Ric. :)

Well either way the film turns out, I'm sure TRA will be great when it comes out in 2025.

Agreed!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Have they shown us everyone in costume (aside from some non-humans) expect Hamill?  I'm starting to get the feeling Leia and Luke won't have much screen time in this one.  I'm hoping at least Luke will have more than a cameo. Seems like Solo and Chewie will get the most screen time out of the OT cast.

I agree (and made the same screen grab to post) ;-)

Really nice to see.

I look forward to seeing General Hux. After 38 years of Vader-like characters, Stormtrooper-like soldiers, and Fett-like characters, it's about time that we get a Tarkin-like character.

They haven't shown us Hux, have they? Only an unofficial image?

I've been waiting for all those chumps who were talkin' trash about Carrie to be proven wrong. It already feels good.
That screen grab is the most exciting thing released for the new film so far.
If anything they've shown is putting my ass in the theater, that's it.

I think that "Behind the scenes" Clip was really good.

It's re-enforcing my faith that it can be done, Star Wars can feel real again.

Proper trailer for this film... Cannot wait!

I find it troubling that the film isn't even finished yet and folks are already contemplating their own personal revisions.

Can you not enjoy the primary experience of seeing brand new Star Wars without treating it like so much raw material to be reshaped to your whim?

I agree.  A great many of us have been waiting for a proper Star Wars film for decades.  This film is still several months away and all we've seen are two short trailers and some behind the scenes footage. Yet there are a fair number of folks here trying to decide what they're going to "correct" first.  I'm surprised by that.

 Nothing surprises me here.

I'll stick with the original, thanks.

Since it was brought up, you can watch my version of both TPM and AOTC on vimeo.  Links in the first post of each thread (links to the threads in my signature).

I clarified what I was trying to say. So you can be un-nonsurprised now. Has your team disbanded?

I wasn't talking about your comments, but the idea of color correcting in general.  Hell, there's already a thread in the Fan Edits section where someone is talking about color correcting the TFA trailers.

I've taken the account back temporarily and am posting from a secret bunker, but I suspect the team will find me again soon.  They always do.

Pray for Mojo.

True, thanks. Although my comment is currently left out of the quote chain, it did stem those other ones, so I feel a bit like I'm defending a position that isn't mine.

And yes, I just saw that thread. At least it's in the right place. Though I would have appreciated the hilarity of calling something a preservation of a film that doesn't yet exist.

Although there wasn't much doubt, at least now we have confirmation that C-3PO will have a red arm in TFA. I also noticed that the guy in the box with the air tubes cooling him off towards the end of the video has several bird-like aliens popping out of the side of his costume, which I assume makes him the guy inside the first alien we got to see from TFA (he's called Bobbajo btw.). Apparently his head was, as suspected, hidden in the pile of stuff on top of the box on the alien's back. Presumably he then puppeteers the alien's head with his hands inside the box.

However on the more speculative side of things; could the animatronic head that we got to see early on in the video be Maz Kanata? It looks very similar to the concept painting. If you imagine in with blue paint and the head scarf they're practically the same. The second thing that makes me think it's Kanata is because it's being controlled by motion-capture. This short clip is clearly and early test of the mechanics of the head, and you can see on the computer screen with the small camera on top if it a digital image of a man's face moving in sync with a recorded (possibly live) image of a man moving his mouth. It is possible that this is some new form of motion-capture that is being used to control the articulation of animatronic puppets. If so we could be seeing an animatronic Maz Kanata and Snoke in TFA.

Maybe Threepio was working with the First Order undercover or unwillingly for a while?  I say this after seeing the toy for the new TIE Fighter as it has a red painted left-side like C-3PO's red left arm.

Nice catch!

Note the underside of the hull. TIE's can shoot from behind now!?
