People talking about differences in skin color & neck length should keep in mind that preproduction art does not necessarily match final designs. What a character looks like changes many times as they make a movie.

Yup. But something about the blue face strikes me as more expressive, which makes me think it's the face using Lupita's mocap performance.

Though admittedly it's hard to see just how expressive the orange one might be. The blue one seems more interesting to me in any case.

I guess I'm alone in not finding her attractive....

You are not, Ric. Not much there in the eye of this beholder either.

But Andy Serkis has helped to make motion capture a much more respectable thing than it was in the TPM days and, as I understand it, she more than has the chops, so I look forward to seeing her in action with no reservations at all...

And for those who find her beautiful - it's not like there's no precedent for beautiful, Oscar-winning actresses taking roles in which they're made unrecognizably ugly. Heck, that's how some of them win their Oscars...

It's a safe bet she gets a cameo in the flesh someplace in the movie...

I would hope so.  Her talent and credibility are a given.  People want to work with her for a reason.  She brings depth and weight to a role.

From my shallower side;  I wouldn't cast a woman this beautiful and then draw a cartoon in her place.

She might as well be a cartoon with all that airbrushing.  *badum tissss*

 That's a pretty man.

Nothing wrong with playing an unattractive character. As the star of the film I wager her talents were well used.

So many great insights into the production of the movie, and very much worth a full read.  Note some small segments of it had been posted previously.

Out of everything, what some are saying makes me so confident that this will be great, but I've really got to tell myself to hold back the hype train.

Nice to see that Michael Ardnt and Lucas really had essentially no influence whatsoever on the movie.

Is it too much to ask for a movie that immediately makes me want to see it again? (and I mean exiting the theater and getting right back in line)

 I can't wait....

At last a new Star Wars movie recorded on a REAL set! ;)

I myself think having Lucas to direct the ST would make it terrible, but with no one involved in the creation of the OT returning (except thankfully Kasdan) it may not be the same franchise we know, just new movies with "Star Wars" in their titles.

So I am going to assume that is from the shot with the TIE-fighter shooting?  Looks like a similar place, though not sure.

Is that the new Star Wars stunt show in Florida? ;)

There were real sets built for the prequels. Just not this big.

Great article! My favorite parts are:

Discussing the shoot, Abrams was quick with praise for his young cast but seemed most excited by his encounters with ghosts of Star Wars past: “The whole thing was as surreal and impossible as you can imagine. I mean, walking onto the Millennium Falcon set?” (That would be Han Solo’s iconic spaceship.) “To be on it, it’s insane. There were people who literally cried when they walked onto that set. It’s a strange thing, the effect it has.”

and

By all accounts things went smoothly aside from one serious hiccup, a month in, when a part of the Millennium Falcon set fell on Ford and broke his leg. Production was held up for two weeks, but in Abrams’s mind there were unexpected blessings. “In a weird way,” he said, “it was the greatest gift to the movie that, once it was clear Harrison would be O.K., the way that the crew came together. I’ve never seen a crew bonded like that. And when Harrison came back, when I say he came back better and stronger than ever, I can’t overstate that. There was a fire in his eyes that you see in the movie.” The hiatus also gave Abrams time to take stock of what he was doing and rethink some sequences that normally would have had to be fixed in postproduction or via expensive re-shoots.

I think this is one of the most accurate descriptions of the prequels I have ever read.

...what was organic and maybe even intuitive in the first film was increasingly foregrounded, skeleton turned into exoskeleton.

That is exactly what happened when I went to see Return of the Jedi in the cinema although I was still fairly young (only 6 years old) and I distinctly remember nodding off after the speeder bike chase on the second time round :)

Probably all too much and past my bedtime :)

I had seen the others on the TV and was Star Wars Crazy... It would be great I agree to have that feeling back again I have not done that ever again as far as I can remember at the cinema.

I found this IGN video from the Star Wars Celebration where they showed off some of the costumes and props from TFA. Most of it we've already seen before only in close-up, such as Kylo Ren's mask and lightsaber as well as some details on the new Snow-troopers and even a new Flame-trooper design. The most interesting part however is a piece of concept art showing Finn with Luke's lightsaber attached to his jacket. I guess this could suggest that it is Finn that finds the lightsaber and not Rey as we've all assumed so far, or it could even suggest that's he's going to actually use it as a jedi/apprentice.

I dunno, he has that thing pointed at his chest.

That's true, I honestly didn't notice that. I still find it interesting however that Luke's lightsaber is on concept art of Finn. It's hard to say why it's there, it's just so very...specific. It is a very interesting little detailed that they decided to show the fans at Star Wars Celebration.

I found another video showing the same costumes and props from some different angles and I noticed a few more interesting details.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKrFZBncjmU

One interesting little detail is that Rey's goggles seems to have been made out of the eye-piece of an OT-era stormtrooper helmet. Other than that the video shows a lot more details on Kylo Ren's lightsaber. Looking at the design you really get the idea that it's something very unique, most likely something that he's cobbled together himself. If this is the case then it would explain the uneven saber-beam that we saw in the trailer.

Also as a side-note, am I the only one who get's the impression that the two 'beams' on the side are more like vented plasma (or whatever lightsaber-beams are supposed to be made of) rather than two extra lightsaber-beams. If Kylo ren's lightsaber is "home-made" then it could simply be that the two tubes at the end are there to serve as vents. I could be stretching this speculation, but the 'beams' really look to pointy to be regular lightsaber-beams. They look more light the spark coming out of a welding-torch.

Full interactive compilation of the currently rumored plot elements.  (a more organized and easier to read version than my previous post about this)

http://spoilerboard.blogspot.de/2015/05/welcome-to-star-wars-force-awakens.html?m=1

Contains confidence levels for each plot point, as well as two different versions of Act III since nearly all of that last part of the film is speculation.

My bets, again, are that about 20% of the stuff is correct.  I think most of it sounds awesome to me, while others parts make me cringe (hopefully the stuff that is all fake).
