Has anyone talked about wether or not Episode VII will be any good this time around? I'm 100% sure someone has on this thread.

Not the place for that Duracell, and you know it. Stay on topic, please...

I think that article writer might have written some secret fan fiction about a band called, "Harrison Ford and the Original Trio."

You don't need spoilers to know that bad directors make bad films. This feels like 1999 all over again.
https://youtu.be/NlZCe8GoRAk ;)
I don't consider J.J. a bad director.

My opinion of Abrams has been that he's a good director but an awful storyteller. He's always puts flash ahead of everything else.
Which is why I'm hoping having to work with Kasdan instead of his usual crew of hacks will result in the best output we've seen from him yet.
But things like the crossguard saber do not bode well.
Let's not reignite that debate. ;)

Wanna bet that the crossguard lightsaber will be the only defining trait of the villain, much like Darth Maul's twin laser-sword?
(Besides the devil paint?)
Darth Maul was one of the good things in TPM. You didn't see Jar Jar figures flying off the toy shelves back in '99. ;)

I've grown sick and tired of Maul, to be quite honest. Over a decade of existence, and the guy had virtually nothing going for him beyond looking and sounding cool; the only time he managed to gain any bit of substance was when brought back in TCW.
He's like Boba Fett, only moreso.

Darth Maul : More like Boba Fett than Boba Fett. You heard it here first.
I always hated that Lucas stole the double saber from tales of the jedi. It was Exar Kun who built it. It was never red.
Now everyone seems to think Lucas created it solely for Maul and that Lucas is a genius.
“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.
Who cares there will never be a good Star Wars film ever again; it's not the early 1980s anymore. Disney just wants to exploit an existing IP for money, much like Lucas did in the late 90s with the Prequels.
Are Celebration related details fair game for this thread? It will be kind of frustrating if all of the new images and details are only being discussed in the same thread where it's okay to mention which characters are rumored to die/not die/ be each others great grandparents/whatever.
I forgot about Celebration starting today, but happened to have the chance to sit down and watch the panel livestream. I thought it was a lot of fun! I clicked away when they said they were going to play the teaser. I'll wait until tonight when I can download it from a high quality source and play it on my TV properly, rather than hunched over a 240p video on my decrepit laptop. Looking forward to it!
It stopped playing after that. They want people to watch the HD version that actually has the audio in sync.

For those who aren't even watching trailers or Celebration-released things, they should start a "PURIST NO SPOILER THREAD" thread
I'm avoiding the spoiler thread, but I don't think the new trailer has any new surprises that people wouldn't know if they've seen the leaked concept art several months ago. So I'll just give my first impression.
First, JJ plays it safe, with numerous nods to the original trilogy. Those are appreciated, but what's really exciting for is the new ship and armor designs in action. Digging the more aggressive Empire and the general sense of a lived in yet not excessively cluttered universe. The atmosphere is good, the style is good, but of course these are things that we know JJ can do well. The big question is not whether he can set the scene, but whether he can tell a story that rises above mere fan service and nostalgia for the past.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Now that I've seen the second trailer I'm convinced he's going to finish ruining the Star Wars franchise just like he did with the Star Trek franchise. IE appeal to the common dolt with dumbed-down storyline, lack of character development, and over-the-top action sequences. What a shame.
I'll be happy with my Harmy Despecialized editions (maybe in 4k at some point in the future) and keep pretending the rest doesn't exist.
That's a awful lot to infer from a two minute trailer? And J.J.'s Trek screenwriters are not involved with this anyway.
