Star Wars costume exhibit at the EMP museum in Seattle

So recently I went to the EMP Museum and by fluke I found out that for $8 there was a Star Wars coste exhibit that I could visit so I went there. The exhibit is really cool, there are original costumes from all six of the movies so far and they all look great! The mannequins are allnset up really nicely and I saw dome stuff that I didn't think I would. There was a stormtrooper from ANH, a full Darth Vader dedicated room with his costume from ESB, slave leia, tusken raiders (a female one that I didn't know existed), and tons of other original stuff. The prequels' costumes were dominant in the exhibit but IMO the costumes in the prequels are probably one of the best parts of that trilogy. Some of the highlights were:

-Original R2D2 costume where if you get a low angle you can see Kenny Baker's shoes in the legs XD

-Yoda puppet used for rehearsals

-All the placards in front of the costumes that contanied quotes from the actors, concept art, and some of them were electronic and let you scroll through pictures and do quizzes!

Overall, the show was quite worth the $8 to go see some of this stuff. They won't be there for much longer and will tour around the U.S. this year and eventually settle in a Star Wars dedicated museum. I reccomended you go check it out!

While I was there I picked up a copy of Dark Horse's "The Star Wars: deluxe edition" comic book and am quite enjoying it!

Did you see the Ralph McQuarrie sketch on the wall while you were there?

I did, when I visited a few years back. I photographed it even.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Oh I went to this exhibit also.

It was actually quite entertaining to see. Took all sorts of pics too. I thought most of the costumes looked great and were very nicely displayed, but I did have two gripes about the visit. First, I would've wished to see a lot more kinds of OT costumes upstairs. Second, did anyone else notice how lazy the display was for the OT Stormtrooper? I'm sure the details were literally colored on by a marker, and velco could be spotted in several areas (didn't even have to look closely to spot either of these).

Overall, though, it was worth a look and something nerdy to do as an extended Valentine's Day gift this year :)

Mm yes, the OT costumes sadly are probably hard to get a hold of being that a lot of collectors (for example: Rancho Obi-Wan) already have them and that they are so damn old. But I did watch a documentary called 'Anatomy of a Dewback' about the way ILM destroyed the OT with their new special effects and in one scene they go to a huge warehoise full of OT costumes so I'm not fully sure on why the exhibit was so focused on the PT

Yeah, OT material is harder to come by, but for an exhibit as this, I agree, you'd think they could manage to go to the safe warehouses and balance the focus a little more. I still enjoyed what was there though.

Did you learn something new? I don't think I ever knew of that Yoda puppet used for rehearsals - it makes you appreciate the filmed Yoda a whole lot more than already :D

That's one of the biggest things I learned, I also found out that there was a female tusken raider, and that Carrie Fisher's 'metal' bikini had a description saying that it was actually hard plastic with some cloth on the top which I find weird because I've always heard that it was made of metal. Overall, I still did really like the exhibit.
