SilverWook suggested that I rename him Commander Cloney in my edit, and I have done so.

Best moment in ROTS is the last 10-15 minutes of the film. It brings a bad era to a good close and wraps it all up nicely.

Funny, I think the best moment in the film is the first 10-15 minutes.

But the last 5 minutes or so of ROTS are also good, in my book.

What do I like about the prequals?

Well, not too damn much.

 From the first post:

And don't bother replying with things like "No, there is not." or "The Prequels are terrible."

 BURN!

I did NOT see that coming!

Take THAT Luca$!

And don't misspell "prequel." That's my gimmick.

The Luca$ thing was what i would have used to say, along with Lazy Lucas was Lazy.

I am very much indifferent now that Di$ney owns star wars.

The ending to ROTS. The greatest moment in the entire trilogy, and wraps a bad story up very well.

It was certainly one of the least bad moments from the prequels but I don't think you can say a badly rendered green-screen call-back to an earlier iconic practical VisFX shot is "The greatest moment".

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

The reprise of the throne room end title was good i suppose, but the shot having to echo star wars or rhyme was unnecessary.

Owen and Beru  looking young and optimistic was interesting though.

They don't look like old world weary grandparents.

This is a good topic.  Thought-provoking.

As an unabashed prequel hater, I also realize that everything exists on a continuum; nothing can be absolutely "bad" or "good."  Even though I generally think that the prequels are vastly inferior to the classic trilogy, I do like certain moments in the prequels:

1) The action set-pieces in TPM.  The pod-race and "Duel of the Fates," if not necessarily rising to the level of the classic trilogy, got the juices flowing and people talking. Which is really one of the main functions of cinema in the first place, in my opinion.

2) Liam Neeson.  He carries TPM.  No other actor carries the other two prequel films.  That's one of the many reasons why they're both such a terrible, out-of-control mess.

3) A certain walking and talking scene in Episode III.  Obi-Wan: "Yes, but use your feelings Anakin, something is out of place;" and "The Council is asking you."  Just a good, well acted scene by Ewan all around.  If most of the prequels' scenes were this good, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

So I have a confession.  Actually, I've confessed it long ago when I first signed up here.  I do like the prequels.  Now don't get me wrong, if the OT films are 9's or 10's, the PT's are only 5's or 6's, but somehow I still enjoy.  I decided like a heretic (especially after posting in a different thread about raising the next generation of OT fans) that I would let my kids watch the PT, since that demographic is targeted more for the PT (at least 1 and 2).  They loved them.  And seeing it through their eyes, where Jar Jar was actually funny to them, I kind of gained an appreciation for it.  Besides, now I can show them Clone Wars episodes, so it works out.  Do I love them?  Nah.  But I gotta admit, I do like the PT.

I'm honestly surprised by how many on this thread chose the ending of ROTS as the best thing about the PT... I tend to see it as possibly the worst, not only for the obvious reasons ("NOOOO!") but because it represents the final nail in the coffin of hope for the potentially great trilogy we all envisioned and hoped for since the green, starry-eyed days of our youth. Moreover, the manner in which it condescendingly tied every little loose thread into a neat bow - even to the point of having fully-formed OT style imperial uniforms and technology materialize out of nowhere, just so that we, the moronic sheep in the seats wouldn't start bleating "But wha happa?!" - was particularly egregiously insulting.

I'm of the firm opinion that the PT is so fundamentally flawed as to be beyond any hope of repair, apart from a full, ground-up remake. However, there is one thing I like about it - John Williams' music. He brought the same class and brilliance to these films that he always does, and Lucas, who couldn't be bothered to write more than one draft for any one of these turds, frankly, did not deserve it.

But there's one moment in the PT where Williams goes so far above and beyond the call of duty, it gives one pause and makes one face the irrefutable fact that he cared about this project more than its own creator did - and that is at the end of The Phantom Menace. The main refrain of the triumphant musical cue played here ("Augie's Great Municipal Band") is actually the Emperor's Theme from ROTJ, played in a major key and at a faster tempo. It took me about 2 or 3 years worth of viewings of TPM (which, admittedly, was not that many viewings) to realize this fact and, when I did, my already incredibly high esteem for John Williams dodecadupled. Absolute genius, that man.

This I can not agree with more, John Williams' score is truly amazing in every movie he works on and these are no exception. Even if the music wasn't edited or added into the films in a good way, the music still kicks ass and gets me pumped.

The score of John Williams will forever be epic as others have already posted. We also like the visual effects and the lightsaber fights even though the CGI was of course over used.

Clearly he is speaking for the whole Rogue Squad, silly.

While a lot of the dialog before the final duel in RotS is painful ("If you aren't with me, you're my enemy", "Only Sith deal in absolutes", etc), I really like the way the "together we'll rule the galaxy" speech Anakin gives Padme echos Empire.

Really, anything that implies that Anakin's corrupted by the idea of power like he's supposed to be and not just an easily manipulated idiot was a plus, and it was some (relatively) good acting.

Also, I've always liked the scene in TPM when they're at the dinner table in Anakin's house and Qui-Gon jokes that he may have a lightsaber because he killed a Jedi. It had a few warm, genuine performances (mostly thanks to Liam Neeson) which the movies desperately needed more of.

I also liked the scene where Anakin has to leave his mom and she tells him not to turn back. One of the only scenes in the PT I can remember that made me feel anything. Sure, he never actually made an attempt to go back and free her, but that's AotC's fault, not TPM's.

I'm here to kick ass and watch Star Wars, and I'm all out of ass.
