UPDATE: The site is completed! It is best viewed in the Magazine or Sidebar option. I hope you enjoy!!

Hey Ya'll.

I am an avid McQuarrie SW collector and have decided to put up everything I have amassed online. I was wondering if anyone would care to help me make this site an exhaustive listing of everything published (and not).

RMQGallery

There is some art in his books that you might have:

Star Wars Chronicles

ILM: The Art of Innovation

Remembering Ralph McQuarrie (Dreams and Visions Press)

Star Wars Costumes

The link and the name of the link are wrong. Still awesome work :-)

I'm quite impressed. You've assembled tons of Ralph McQuarrie artwork I'd never seen before. And I thought I'd seen nearly everything!

My hat is off to you, sir.

I believe this is from an issue of Bantha Tracks. Although the sketches are legit, The whole story about filming in Death Valley is not found anywhere else and this Hal guy is pretty much now believed a liar.

This is amazing because I believe I met Hal at a local collectibles show.  One booth had a little person (dwarf, I'm trying to be politically correct) signing autographs with a Jawa photo.  I asked his name, which I don't recall, and who he played.

I then asked if there were any deleted scenes he was in.  He described this exact scene!  I knew every aspect of A New Hope including the filming and figured this had to be a lie but I just shook my head and said nothing.  I have thought for years that this man was lying and that he was trying to make money off being a little person and signing autographs as a jawa.  Now it's confirmed.  Thanks!

Wouldn't be that hard to ask someone at Lucasfilm whether such a scene was planned or shot. There's a lot of stuff from the cutting room floor we didn't even get to see until the digital versions of the Rinzler books came out.

Bantha Tracks was the official newsletter of the original Star Wars fan club run by Lucasfilm, not a third party, so that they would print misinformation makes no sense to me. Star Wars Poster Monthly made up a lot of in universe background stuff that probably wasn't scrutinized closely in the early days though.

 Yeah, that's an interesting point...
What would be the best route to start down to find the truth here?

I just stumbled upon this piece and was immediately reminded of this thread:

I hadn't seen it before and noticed it's not on your site either.

Stellar collection by the way. Surprised by the number of things on there that I'd never seen before. Though I think there might be a couple pieces that aren't actually McQuarrie's work.

Tobar,

Thanks. You're right. It's not on there. I have it labelled under the Cantina pop-up book he did some years later. I'll put in up soon.

I'm continuing to make edits so anything that you are doubtful of let me know!

I'll put up good money against that scene ever having been filmed. It appears nowhere else, including in the shooting schedule.

That doesn't look like a Bantha Tracks page to me, more like that poster magazine series. (The one with a fold out poster on one side, articles on the other).

Just letting you know that I've been enjoying all the updates. Some really nice stuff from ESB up now.

I appreciate that, towne32.

I'm almost done. Just need to put up the rest of RotJ, then a couple random illustrations here and there, then put a description on some of them.

By the way, I have a thread on the TFN forums where I analyze lots of the costume concepts and other character designs done for the OT. Many of the drawings there are by Ralph McQuarrie, but some are by other artists, such as John Mollo and Nilo Rodis-Jamero.

Fair warning: the thread is intensely image-heavy. Do not go there if you have dial-up (or are still living in a cave in 1992).

Also, there may be some potential Episode VII spoilers--but likely nothing you haven't encountered already.

No, no, your annoying image-heavy thread that takes ages to load is here ;-)

Ah, but the more threads, the merrier, is it not so?

Yeah, you've got a couple interesting theories, to say the least.

If you've read the new Costumes book, have any of them changed for you?

A new McQuarrie book!

I can't be more excited about this news! Hopefully this new book announced by LFL/Disney at Celebration will lead me to delete my website. Abrams has the reputation to put out beautiful art books and it sounds like this new book is perfect for the McQuarrie completionist like myself. Until then, though, I'll keep this site up as a resource.
