Yes, I did see that.  Nice for people who just want TPM as it would look without the pink tint but no DNR.

In short, I have finally narrowed down a simple yet effective grade method for TPM.  As known, TPM was shot mostly on film so it doesn't truly have as many of the problems as being shot digitally.  So it doesn't need such drastic filmic color changes.

So I've pretty much made it this my workflow in AE:

VC Color Vibrance (allows me to adjust the overall WB of an image more accurately)

Colorista II (adjusts Red, Green, and Blue Curves individually)

Colorista II 2 (adjusts shadows, midtones, highlights and ranged HSL)

Cineon Converter (flattens image so I can apply a LUT)

Apply Color LUT (ImpulZ Kodak 2283- this is what TPM was printed to for theatre prints)

FilmConvert Pro 2 (film grain and levels adjustments)

Wow that looks great.

Good to hear a bit from you. I'm working on encoding and distributing the final version of my prequel fan edit project, but I've got Final Cut sequences set aside to plug your source into once it's all finished.

My stance on revising fan edits.

i really like this project, i have been trying to decide on a version of the prequels to do my own edits. this might just fit with what i am wanting to do. like hal9000 i would love to used these graded versions, with deleted scenes, as a source for my edits i am working on.

also, if i were to use this project and i wanted to mimic what you have done, for like a custom opening craw, would that be possible on a slower system??

and all of your screenshots are dead

and vimeo links are down

yes, screenshot comparison went down recently, and Vimeo nearly banned me out.  After I got two copyright strikes, one of which was on a private video.  Not sure where I should upload future clips.

Also, I see that Magic Bullet suite got a completely new version now.  I'll have to look into whether I want to spend the money to upgrade or not yet.

Looks like screenshotcomparison is back up.

(previous shot clone pilots)- http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113260

(approaching Mustafar)- http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/113261

Both used VLC screenshots, so the quality is a little lower, as I'm continuing to reorganize my computer's files to make sure I have the space on my built in hard drive that I need for the full 4K lossless 4:2:2 upsampling of the source material (I previously upscaled in the same project files as the grades, but it really makes little sense in terms of efficiency.)

I like both, actually. Makes the shot feel more like a '70s/'80s matte painting and less like CGI.

Granted, it doesn't make the shot look realistic, either, but still - I like the matte painting look.

I love what you've been doing so far with all the grades! I just now discovered this and am completely in awe, it changes so much with the look of the films for the better! This grade of mustafar however completely takes me out of the film and I don't think it needs such a style change. I think you really just need to add the film grain, but you made the highlights muddled and green, and it's not appealing anymore. But everything else you've done is phenomenal!!:) Keep it up. I can't wait to see the final output

It doesn’t hurt to offer help, but it always hurts to disregard those that do.

Yeah, the highlights may be too green.

Also, if you want it to make like film, shouldn't the contrast be increased a bit? That is, a more photochemical-looking pushing of highlights and shadows - not the digital crush/blowout we complain about. Film prints do not have dulled highlights like your "after" pictures are showing.

But this is still great work, I agree about the gas giant planet now looking like a painting out of the OT.

I just thought of a silly idea for a fan edit--part of a fan edit, rather: putting fake garbage mattes around the various ships. Actually, it's got me thinking about ways one could old-ify modern effects.
