While we're on the subject, here's one of my favorite reviewer's reaction.

Stuckman is always good. His little skit at 05.30 about talking to his dad after TPM is very funny.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

The droid is most likely the same size as other R2s. A lot bigger than a soccer ball so I don't think it will look like a soccer ball when it is next to something that gives it scale/perspective.

I don't think there is anything weird about the dome staying on. It is new technology. Something similar but cruder could probably be possible today with robotics, gyroscopes, magnets etc.

I've ready comments mentioning 'chrome troopers' in the trailer. Can some one point out where they are? I just watched again and didn't see any, just the white uniform.

The chrome stormtrooper was in the fan made trailer that was on Youtube a few days ago. There aren't any in the official trailer.

As far as first impressions go it seems the film is driven by cgi special effects rather than the characters which I think is a bit of a shame. I would have expected some inkling of story being teased but nope probably not that important or high on the agenda.

The one thing I have learned about teasers and trailers is most of the time they are better then the movies, and really set up a false expectation. The PT trailers were great, and those movies paled in comparison.

I thought the first Episode 7 teaser was OK, as it didn't get the juices flowing like the PT trailers. And you know what, I'm good with that. I will say that it FEELS like the OT, and that is a huge hurdle for this trilogy to accomplish. The PT never felt like the OT, because essentially these movies all need to link up for them to work. I give JJ & Disney credit for not showing Luke, Leia or Han, as that would have been an easy sell in the first teaser to the old fans. They were essentially saying that here are the new leads of the movie (Boyega, Ridley, Isaac), so we are not going to fool you showing the Big 3 and make you think they will have the same screentime as they did in the OT.

I know Lucas put suited Vader in BOTH Episode 3 trailers, only to see him in the damn movie for 5 minutes, and if felt like a cheap marketing stunt. In the end, its the movie that counts, not the trailers, so I'm glad I'm not going crazy with excitement today, as it will temper my expectations come next December. But its still fun for all of us to feel 10 years old again talking about this stuff, as SW is the only franchise that still works for me on this level as an adult.

I assumed the 'chrometrooper' is actually the lead villain's armour (so probably the guy with the broad-saber). Visually it might make sense to have a sort of silver knight like armour with such a big weapon.

Its not STAR WARS as we know it (hence the revulsion from some of our forum), but it feels to me fresh and human much like the OT.

You'll notice how all the stormtroopers are all irregular heights which is pretty cool.

I have a theory.  Everybody is talking about the hooded figure speculating he may be an ancient warrior of some kind.  What if this character turns out to be Darth Plagueis?  He actually DID manage to save himself from death and has been in some form of hibernation for years and years. The shot from the trailer is him waking up and igniting his lightsaber ready to kick some ass.  The force awakens.  As in the ultimate user of the force awakens.  Huh?  Huh???

I know it's dumb but I love speculation like this ^-^

I'd prefer someone more ancient than Plagueis. How about Darth Bane, the founder of the Sith, or a being from before the founding of the Sith?

I hated the trailer on first watch except for a few shots. After watching two more times, my feelings have kinda reversed.. kinda.

-I hate that soccer ball droid. How's his R2 head staying on? Looks so silly. I just can't understand people saying it looks like it was plucked out of Star Wars (ANH).
-I hate  the stupid cross lightsabre and it's fiery blades.
-I Hate that the dialog (and title) are all about the force and light/dark side. The Jedi stuff is the least interesting thing about Star Wars to me.

There are some things I like though.

I'm hoping the full trailer will have more of a 'Star Wars' feel and less of a 'any new blockbuster' vibe.

This is why it's so difficult for JJ to please anybody with this movie. I think that if this was the first Star Wars movie to be made since 1983, we would still be very interested in the light/dark sides of the Force. The prequels and EU have done it to death though, it will be very hard to tread new ground here.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Remember there was a rumor this movie was going to be titled "The Ancient Fear" so yes, he could be someone from ancient days.

Because one thing you can always tell from a teaser is how much story there will be.

I really hate the teal and orange look that this trailer has. To me, this makes it look cheap and overly fake. When will this trend die?!

The TIE Fighters look too similar to what we saw in the OT, but I can't say I got a very good look at them. Hopefully these aren't new fighters they're still making the same way as 30 years ago.

Because nobody would ever still be flying a 40 year old design...

Or a 60 year old one. ;)

Those are old planes, though, right? Not new planes copying old designs? I'm just hoping that they're either improved, or old TIEs. Perhaps the Empire is in the position the Rebels were in the OT and are stuck using old ships. I just don't want the designs faithfully copied for nostalgia's sake when they're supposed to be new. I want them to be updated like those X-Wings, or be old like the original X-Wings were supposed to be.

The teaser could have did without the VO.  The droid borders on cute/stupid.  The Millennium Falcon stirred up something in me.  Modern film owes half of it's success to John Williams.  The VFX so far look fan generated.

JJ has an awesome ability to setup a film but he misses the soul of the story.

Star Trek was all an action movie.  It completely lost the soul of Star Trek which about this optimistic view of humanity and the pure elements of science and exploration.

Super 8 never really nailed down the innocence of childhood.  I mean the movie is called Super 8 and they don't get that film developed until the end of the film? The train should have crashed and the next thing that happens in the story should have been the kids getting that film back and trying to tell people in the town that there is a monster loose.  But of course nobody believes them because they make monster movies!  Then they have to go find the monster and it's ugly but friendly ala ET and they don't get split up and stick together for their adventure ala Goonies.

So I fear we will see a lot of cool stuff in this new film but it's not going to come together the way Joss Whedon can pull a bunch of story threads together for an awesome story arc and ultimate ending.

But only time will tell.

I want to see a lot of Luke Skywalker kicking ass.  I think Mark Hamill is an excellent actor.  It would be fantastic to see him take Luke and really do something awesome with the character.  Han should sacrifice himself in this episode.  Then Luke should in the next film.

Thanks for reading my rant.

Well, given the EU being non-canon, we really don't know the specifics of how "ancient" Plagueis is.  All we know about him is what Palpatine said about him in Ep.3.  It's implied that he was Palpatine's master but that could be false in this canon.  Palpatine describes him as "an old Sith legend".

The trailer showed a lot yet managed to reveal nothing.

I'm not sure if you're complaining or merely observing, but that's what teaser trailers do (or at least what they're supposed to do).

That's what I mean.  It is a teaser trailer done right.  So many teasers show little to nothing in order to reveal nothing.

This could actually qualify as a trailer in terms of content shown.

Magnetic power of some kind.

Again, use your imagination people! This is not Star Trek, were everything have to be explained on screen with lousy concepts. This is Star Wars, were the lousy concepts are the ones the fans should bring during discussions with their friends! Anyone have the right to not like the look of that droid. But saying that you "hate" a 3 seconds video clips of that cute little droid because you don't understand how its head stands on its body... Come on. Maybe it will be your favorite character in the end! ;)

First test at trying to reduce the teal-orange color grade and give it a slightly more OT look.  Still needs some work though.
