I don't mind it except... Why not "The Force Awakened"... Such a small change, same basic meaning, but sounds like 10x cooler...

Because the meaning would actually be different. "Awakens" suggests that the movie actually shows the beginning and the process of the "awakening", wheras "Awakened" suggests it's already awake.

Plus, I'm sure stalker means it would parallel "The Force Unleashed," but for 99.9% of the potential audience, it would just sound like a clumsy past tense [The Force [then] Awakened, contra the Force [that has been] Awakened], which would be inconsistent with all the other titles.

So this is what I gathered would Luke Skywalker’s role will be in the films. From pure speculation, I have a feeling that Luke when he went to self-imposed exile was gathering information on Jedi and possibly even Sith teachings (And if they want can go beyond those two main orders like the EU.) Combined with his potential he becomes the most powerful being in the Galaxy. The title is called “The Force Awakens." I have a feeling that Luke after spending decades of studying finally reached Oneness or Enlightenment through the Force, however at the cost of great power he mostly loses his humanity and social mind, no longer viewing the world like we do. Because of so many years of self-imposed exile combined with knowledge and power that many won’t grasp, he becomes an insane old Wizard like Joruus C’Baoth, who walks a fine line between the Light and Dark. He even uses Darkside powers like Force Lightning and any given moment could fall to the Dark-side. The villain could be someone who sees Luke as a Potential Super-weapon of sorts and hopes to turn him to his or her side.

The title also fits the "story" within the subtitles themselves:

The Phantom Menace: there's some hidden evil (the Sith)

Attack of the Clones: the Sith make their move (the start of the Clone Wars)

Revenge of the Sith: the Sith claim their victory

A New Hope: a new chance to defeat the Sith despite their victory

The Empire Strikes Back: the Sith get the upper hand again, despite the "new hope"

Return of the Jedi: the Jedi finally defeat the Sith

The Force Awakens: with the dark side extinguished again, The Force can "awaken" and breathe again

Even if that's not what happens in the film, I like that the new subtitle continues the little summaries/stories that can be surmised from the others.

^That puts a new perspective on the meaning of the title. People seem to be thinking of it as implying that the Force was dead, though Luke was obviously able to use it effectively in the OT, as was Yoda, but it need not have been "dead." I can now see the title as implying a rejuvenation of the Force, which makes sense.

Yes they did, the A new Hope Novelization calls Vader "Dark Lord of the Sith."

I'm talking about the films, not the novels.  Plus, the OT wasn't about the defeating the Sith...

But the Novelizations just give more info to the films they're based on, that's how I see it.

True, but they're still two different mediums and should be kept separate.  It's like when something doesn't make sense in a Harry Potter film, people say to read the book and it'll make sense.  I shouldn't have to read the book to understand the film.

It could be better, but it's no worse than "Return of the Jedi" or "A New Hope." Star Wars has never really had good titles.

There is nothing wrong with those titles.

The titles tend to have a pulp sci-fi vibe to them (A New Hope being the oddity) They might as well call it, The Dark Side Rises it's so anodyne.

I preferred The Shadow Falls for Episode II, the problem with Attack of the Clones is they don't, just as the problem with Revenge of the Sith is we have no idea what their bag is.

I liked The Ancient Fear much more.

The Ancient Fear sounds like the movie will be looking backwards, whereas The Force Awakens sounds like the movie will be more in the present, looking to the future. I'm optimistic, and don't think that it's any more dull than the other titles in the saga.

This does mark a potentially dramatic shift in the philosophy of Star Wars movies however. This is the first one that directly references the Force, rather than just Jedi or Sith. Star Wars had an aspect of the Force, but also had characters on both sides that didn't believe it and wanted nothing to do with it. However, there was little indication that the Force was carried solely through bloodlines, and it is suggested that the Force can be with anyone, anywhere. All of the other films more heavily implied that the Force wasn't a conscious being, but rather a mystical (or molecular) mutation. I hope that the Force is now potentially able to be used by anyone, and that it does not follow bloodlines anymore.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Well it's certainly a better title than "The Phantom Menace" that's for sure.

Name is alright, in the end, as long as the movie is good thats all I care about.

Also, going back to that Chewie pic, why would he look exactly the same? Should his hair be different? Greyer maybe?

The EU (may it rest in pieces) tells us that Wookiees can live at least a few hundred years, so he might still be young by Wookiee standards. However, I agree that he should look at least a bit older.

Its not a bad title name i like it kinda brings balance to the force bringing in a new trilogy.

for all we knew "the Sith" was Vader's Stormtrooper legion or a star system that Vader was appointed to a position of authority over
