Thank you very much metastars! I see your private message and raise with one of my own.
As a follower of the always entertaining SWHS, I couldn't help but notice these lobby cards from the Holiday Special on Ebay. Seems like something that should be snatched up. It belongs in a museum!
Cheers!
I may have a chance at getting a complete, possibly low gen copy of a WBCS recording. PM me for details or if you want to help out.
WCBS, you mean? As in, the WCBS New York airing that was most commonly bootlegged and seen? Fighting the frizzies and all? That's awesome!
Is there a high-quality preservation in interlaced format? Any conversion of this to progressive makes it less smooth and video-like, unless it's converted to 59.94fps progressive using something like Yadif 2x.

I don't know about commonly bootlegged -- hard to believe we wouldn't already have a decent copy -- but agreed it'd be awesome.

It seems to have been one of the most commonly bootlegged ones in the past, but also most commonly very poor quality (which follows: the more bootlegs made, the more nth generation copies there are out there). I've never had my hands on any not-terrible copies of that one.
The WCBS is also apparently the one Trey Parker and Matt Stone had access to, as they parodied the "Fighting the Frizzies" bumper segment on South Park...

Keep in mind that this copy is not 1st gen but it should be much closer to the original source, therefore better than what is currently in circulation. Here is a quote from the previous owner of the tape, "I bought a huge lot of tapes from a tape duplicator seller from the 1980's and these are some of them. The quality is excellent on these tapes. I am sure all the tapes came from the original source."
A little bit of an update. I contacted the current owner to ask about quality and this was the response:"I'd have to say it's a little wavy. It's watchable, but not pristine. But yeah, it looks like it's a couple of generations down." So is there still any interest in perusing this copy?

I think so. The waviness can easily be fixed with a Panasonic DMR-ES10.
A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.
I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

True, unless it's embedded in from being so many generations down.

Tough call there. It could be yet another crappy copy of the WCBS...but it still could be better than what I've seen out there for that version.

I could really use the extra info on the staff, etc. that comes with that script for the website, but I doubt I'll be able to win this auction. Just hoping that whoever does win is willing to share the information.

Wow - is the seller really Joe Johnston?
Yeah he's been selling parts of his collection for a while now.
Okay....well looks like they didn't get the price they were hoping for. As it's now been relisted with a BUY IT NOW price of $5000! Sheesh.
Well, that's only 100 of us able to donate $50.
Or 500 able to donate $10.
Or....

I got a bid in when it was around 600, but was immediately outbid. I noticed then it hadn't hit reserve. Then on the last day, I noticed it was at $1500, and *still hadn't hit reserve*!! What in the hell kind of price did they expect this thing to command, anyway? $2000? $5000?! Apparently yes on the $5000.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm one of the most likely people in the world to want this item...and I would never pay $1500, let alone $5000 for it.
I mean, it's the HOLIDAY SPECIAL, for Ackmena's sake!!
So who was ready to shell out $1500 for it? Fess up!
Apparently Joe Johnston really doesn't want to sell this thing.

As P. T. Barnum stated, a _____ and his _____ are soon _____. (Swiped from the introduction to Bored of the Rings.)
Michael Stackpole told a story where the person at the next table in a restaurant wanted his autograph because he was in some way associated with Star Wars. Didn't have a clue who Michael was, or what he'd written, but heard the words "Star Wars" and so wanted the autograph just BECAUSE.
Whoever did bid that high needs to be shown the Special. That'll set them to rights.
“Before the Dark Times. Before the Prequels.”
Maybe he's hoping George will bid on it so that he can burn it.
Well, someone paid an obscene amount of money for an obscure Kenner Droids prototype action figure last summer, so that kind of insanity tends to creep into related items.
Where were you in '77?

Nah, he's way too busy ensuring Disney gets Ep VII right to bother with this sort of stuff.
