Percussive maintenance has been a trope for as long as I can remember so that would be several centuries at least.

According to my teacher, 'vibrational corrective maintenance' is a proven method for getting the moving parts of a mechanism unstuck, so this is certainly a justified trope.  It can be as effective on decades-old analog audio gear as on the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

FWIW, you can get the optical assembly unstuck in some Laserdisc players by giving the top of the player a good whack.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Totally unexpected, if real...

A prankster would have had to gone to a lot of trouble to visit that island location and shoot their own footage though.

Are we sure it's even Skellig?  It looks like it could be any rocky coast.  Also, isn't Hamill's beard mostly gray?  Unless if this is test footage of some sort with a stand in.  I don't think it's real...

Without actually seeing the video clip and faces of actors, I agree it sure does make it hard to determine its legitimacy.

Judging those few images though, to me it doesn't particularly look fake, however it does not look like something we'll see in the final film either. Curious why the clip would be removed too, as well as the uploading account. So, I'm still willing to believe it was genuine test footage.

As for the bearded guy, maybe it's just a Luke-alike for this test footage. Hard to say.

It is intriguing nonetheless.

Whether real, fake, or 'test' footage, the lighting in that looks horrendous.

Film is meticulously color timed and manipulated in post production though. If this is real, it's "raw" unprocessed footage.

It could be fake but not many rocky coasts have these things:

which is presumably what the photo is supposed to represent.

It's hard to tell without seeing the actual video footage, but you have a point.  The shots of the ocean could be at any number of locations, though.  What also throws me off is the costume, which doesn't look very high quality material.  The stills of the footage seem to be too amateur to be real and I'm surprised they would show the ocean so clearly.  Then again, if it's test footage, then I guess those issues don't matter.  Also, I don't think removal of the video and YouTube account is any indication of the footage being real since Disney/Fox does take down YouTube videos on a daily basis, especially high quality videos.

There are tons of fake Episode 7 trailers and such on youtube, so why would Disney want a takedown if it's fake? Unless it's a clever marketing campaign.

Curious the main Episode 7 rumor site doesn't even seem to have an article about it.

So a guy wearing his Obi-Wan bath robe gets passed off as test footage.

I have that robe, it might be me

And a full beard is just as important! Had this hooded figure not have a beard, without a doubt it'd all be fake ;)

I've found there's really no logic behind why some videos are removed and others remain.  I've had Disney related videos removed while others exactly like it remain and continue to remain, even Star Wars videos.  I've haven't come across anyone who has actually seen the video, just the screenshots.  I'm sure security is pretty tight and I can't imagine nobody would notice a person standing in front of a monitor (for at least a few minutes) recording this footage with their phone.  It's fun to speculate, nonetheless.

Jeebus! That is the most disturbing animated gif I have ever seen posted to this site.

Y'know, if they are following the germ of the (cursed) GL story treatments, I could picture the Luke-as-villain thing happening. George reportedly loved Dark Empire when it came out. For the record, I'd much prefer Luke to remain 'good,' though a gritty moral streak at the end (as rumored) would be okay.

When the Disney sale was news, I described a scene in my head of the final pieces being put in place. George is about to sign on the dotted line, and he hands Bob Iger the treatments. Iger is smiling and using his executive charm to politely send George out the door. As soon as he's gone, Iger tosses the treatments in the trash without looking at them.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I truly have faith in the team and what they are going to bring to this film...

And I can honestly say that 90% of people will leave the theater and think "fuck me...that was the nuts"

To me, nothing will match the disappointment of coming out of The Phantom Menace in 99....Nothing. AOTC wasn't great, but it didn't leave me feeling the same as I did with Ep1. It was still shit, just not as shit!

And I doubt that the guys making this film, especially JJ, would want anyone to feel that utter disappointment again.

Well we will see if he gets the story credit.
