It featured riots, fireworks, flybys, stormtroopers being attacked, giant statues being toppled and "Wesa free!". There is a heavy implication that the Empire has fallen in the "official" cuts that most people are now sadly familiar with, there is no such suggestion of that in the OUT. Plus as I said all the old EU stuff about the fall of the Empire backed up the Lucas approved line that that was what you saw at the end of ROTJ SE.

Are you fucking serious?!?  Statues of what?  And he stuck JarJar in there?  And nobody stopped him?  What an absolute tragedy.

Thank the Maker I never had the stomach for ROTJ-SE after seeing SW97 & ESB97.

EDIT: BTW, robed chrometrooper looks dope, admittedly.

They could remove the celebrations from future special editions.

Yes, he is.

Statues of what?

Of people, unfortunately.

And he stuck JarJar in there?

Technically, no.

And nobody stopped him?

Not that we're aware of.

What an absolute tragedy.

Yes.

Isn't George Lucas the maker here? ;)

I never thought about it until now, but because each updated edition of Star Wars becomes official canon, they could just release the OOT as the latest edition and it would be official canon again. All continuity problems solved. :)

That painting matches Badass Digest's description of the ice planet looking like the other side of The Wall in Game of Thrones.

Yesterday while in the chair at my barbers shop I spotted a GQ magazine on the rack with Harrison Ford on the cover. I didn't have my glasses on, but he looked like he was in his Star Wars shirt and vest. Without my glasses, my blurry vision could only make out that it said something about Star Wars on the cover. My barber and I talked a little Star Wars, but I didn't say anything about the magazine. When He was done shapin' my pompadour up, I put my glasses on and had a look at the magazine. Well, to my surprise it wasn't Harrison on the cover at all but Adam Driver and he isn't wearing Hans clothes at all. Anyway, I stood there looking at the cover pulling my glasses on and off. I swear it changed from Adam to Harrison!
Anyway, is this guy playing Han and Leia's son?

here's the pic.

I thought that was Harrison Ford at first glance as well but mostly because of the clothing!  However, he really doesn't look anything like Harrison Ford if you look at other pictures of him or watch him on TV.  He may very well be Han and Leia's son, though.

If I squint, he does resemble Harrison. The head shape, hairdo, clothing, and fairly big nose all resemble Han Solo's at first glance.

I keep trying to look at that picture to gauge whether or not he could plausibly play the son of Han & Leia, but the "SON, MEN DON'T GET RAPED" thing at the corner keeps distracting me.

One of the lasting and recurring images in Star Wars and ESB is the image of the friends in the Falcon cockpit.

The Falcon reflects Lucas' youth cruising around in cars with his friends.

I believe this will be crucial in re-establishing that same closeness to the characters and building credible friendships between the characters.

The Falcon, hopefully, is being brought back for more than mere fan service; but as a method for creating that same air of both friendship and commonality of purpose between the characters.

Furthermore, I believe those scenes really build the notion that these people are on a journey...like a road trip.  Pile into the old beater, barely prepared and take a road trip, get lost, get into a few scuffles before making it to your destination.

The journey was an important Joseph Campbell mythological facet as we all know by now.  The OT and to some extent, ROTJ, ended that.  There were battles but no journeys anymore.  Just cutting from one planet to the next.

A Star Wars movie without that iconic interior front view of the Falcon cockpit is like a Star Trek film with no Enterprise deck scene.

In many ways, the Falcon is "home" to our heroes as much as the Enterprise is to Kirk and company.

We didn't get enough of the MF in Jedi, and we never got a scene with Han properly reunited with her. Even Star Trek 4 had a homecoming scene. The Klingon Bird of Prey's bridge set changed from Trek III to give the characters that familiar positioning. Kirk would have looked silly sitting on Kruge's high chair.

The ROTJ deleted scenes with anonymous rebels running around in the Falcon is sort of like watching strangers who have moved into your old house.

There is no beloved hunk of junk in the prequels, and the Jedi seem to change ships more than their socks. ;)

Also in the deleted sandstorm scene from Jedi you can hear Han Solo say something like "hello old girl" just before he goes up the ramp. I don't think they should've cut this scene, or Luke's alternate opening.

The Falcon does have character, though I wonder if it's still going to be as unreliable 30 years on. It would be a bit obvious, but kind of right.

That would be great if they've been apart for a while and he's missed his ship, but surely from his perspective he was just at cloud city.

Full disclosure - I am not an expert on Carbon Freezing.

as fun as that stuff is I think it works better if you can't really be sure if Luke is full of himself or he really has planned for everything.

I'd hope that if the Falcon is featured heavily in the new films that they don't repeat the OT by having is constantly breaking down or barely running.

I think it was in the deleted sandstorm scene Han had dialog indicating a state of consciousness while frozen, implying there was a sense of the passage of time. Pretty scary since he was frozen for a while.

I imagine the Falcon is in great shape. It was just the limited resources from hiding out with the rebellion that made maintenance an issue.

Limited resources? The dude was all cashed up. The rebels payed him off for rescuing the princess so he could pay off Jabba the Hutt and clear his debt but that never happened.

Yes, but I doubt the rebels have a lot of parts on hand that would fit the Falcon. (We never see them using a similar ship.) Plus, it's hard to swing by the local intergalactic Pep Boys when bounty hunters are out looking for you.

In one of the Brian Daley books, Han and Chewie had to make do with parts that really were inferior, as there was nothing else they could get. Han even expresses his desire to rip all that stuff out at the earliest opportunity.

It was my impression that the Falcon is always on the verge of breakdown. In fact one of my favorite moments is when it fails to start and Han hits a spot beside the door to start it. There is a faded place in that area of the door, indicating that he had to 'persuade' the Falcon to start regularly.

I always thought that gag was a direct result of the popularity of The Fonz back at that time.

Could be....

"Ayyy I'm Solo, and this here is my hairy friend Chewie. Let's go into my office and talk."

.....

But also the fact that good old percussive maintenance has always been a favourite, since washing machines and Tv sets came into our homes.
