I've been trying to think of any Disney animations and movies that have explored dark themes or had dark moments.

 Gargoyles (1994)

The creator of this series is now an Executive Producer on Rebels.

 Gargoyles was good stuff.

Marina is actually a good actress, but most of her scenes are actually cut. It's funny but her best performances can be found on the TNG deleted scenes :)

I still have some misgivings about the animation style, but I must say I really like the new Obi-Wan (definitely more than the Clone Wars version of him).

And now I have Holiday Special flashbacks. Great.

Just because there are some Wookiees? Wake me when Bea Arthur and Harvey Korman show up in the cantina scene. ;)

The whole thing gave me Life Day vibes, and that aint cool.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I don't like the way the Wookies look.

As with everything Disney it gets airbrushed and sanitized. So it does not surprise me that no Disney Wookie will ever be smelly or have dandruff or fleas. I guarantee once we have "Smellavision" on our TV sets, all of these Disney Wookies will smell of lilac too. :-)

Fur is tough to do in CGI. Chewie was rendered in a similar way when he appeared on TCW.

The scent of lilac would totally clash with the aesthetics of wookiee fur. The fragrance of ginger and/or cinnamon, on the other hand, would blend with the ensemble completely.

Despite everything that looks wrong with this, I'm looking forward to the movie-length first part like nothing else. Because from a certain point of view, it's the first proper* Star Wars movie to be released in 30 years!

(* I choose to define "proper" as it featuring Stormtroopers, the Empire, Rebels, beat-up technology, new young charismatic characters, fun, excitement and everything that the 3 prequels and the Clone Wars movie lacked)

Han and Motti claim that The Force never existed, but never do they claim that the Jedi never existed.

Most people today don't believe in Zeus, but they don't deny that the Greeks existed.

Similarly, a heck of a lot more people don't believe that Jesus' did any miracles than believe he didn't exist. And more people believe in exorcists than exorcism.

Ok, so people believed there were Jedis but they had no power. But here we have more Jedis who obviously do have power. Yet soon no one will believe it.
That's lame.

I believe in exorcists because I've seen em. I'm skeptical of exorcism because I haven't. But if there were exorcists runnin' around yankin' demons outta people, there's no way I'd claim it was all made up a couple years latter, nor would the world at large.

You keep saying there are JediS. There's a single Jedi and he keeps his saber hidden and only uses it under extreme circumstances.

You make it sound like the show is about a squad of renegade Jedi.

Correction. When they said "movie-length", they actually meant "not movie-length". I'm going back to my default pessimism about this show.

This is actually a really good point. I'd like to see them address how the Empire drew up such propaganda to the point where it's a common belief in the main star systems, if the show writers thought this out.

I am a little worried about there being too much Jedi focus, though. Here's hoping Ezra's training comes in the form of experience on-the-job rather than formal segments of seeing how he learns.
