I think it's highly unlikely it's going to be a slow plot and character-driven drama as opposed to a hyperactive action movie
A shame, that.
It is, assuming it's not a George Lucas PT movie. I like movies that take their time. Look at ESB: it's very slow, especially if you compare it to modern action flicks. That's a good thing because of what maintaining that kind of pace allows you to do. You couldn't have written that movie around frenetic action beats every five minutes. Luke fighting a dozen Sith Lords on Dagobah (because nothing's happened action-wise for several minutes already at that point, and we can't have that) would've ruined those scenes.
Yep. I gotta admit though, that despite my better judgment I'm holding on to the hope that we will get a true sequel to ROTJ done in the style of the OT. Actually, the reworking of the script to put focus on the OT heroes gives me just a bit of faith.

An old lady and a Mon Cal pilot would have added nicely to that "The Rebellion is an equal opportunities employer" thing.
IMO, the old lady adds more to that "The Rebellion is underfunded and undermanned" thing.
Maybe that's precisely why it didn't make the final cut. There's a quote in The Making of ROTJ (I'll find it later) where someone asked GL if the uniforms and sets for the Rebel fleet shouldn't be more beaten up and distressed. Lucas answered that the Rebels actually had superior equipment compared to the Empire, and that's why they ended up winning the civil war.
Go figure.
Well rebellion got enormous support after Death Star was destroyed. They started to design and build ships and fighters (secretly). That way rebels had completely new ships by the time of ROTJ (which could be designed based on the weaknesses of the existing imperial ships).

It's the rewrite that has me worried. The original writer they had always wrote intelligent character driven stories. It's great that Kasdan is in charge of the rewrite but he's doing it with Abrams. Who is a great director but the scripts he ends up with are usually pretty bad.
IIRC Most of those (atleast the Star Trek ones) were with other young writers though.
John Williams score to Return of the Jedi Remastered/Remixed:

(Let's try posting this in the right thread this time....)
I found the relevant quote I mentioned earlier from The Making of ROTJ, for the curious:
"I had this concept of the rebel briefing room as being a rather beaten up meeting place, sort of like Britain's last stand in 1940 before the Americans joined the war," Marquand says. "Norman [Reynolds, production designer] thought this was terrific, too. But when we showed it to George, he said 'No, no, no, you've got it completely wrong. That isn't what I intended at all. Your concept of how the rebels win is not the way they win. They win because they've got the best equipment. They've gotten themselves all together.'"
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Harrison Ford has also been spotted in London in the past few days.
Where were you in '77?
One big thing I'm curious about is whether Abrams and Mindel will be shooting some scenes in IMAX like on the last Star Trek movie. Brad Bird and Claudio Miranda are shooting some of Tomorrowland (also from Disney) in the format, just as Bird did with Robert Elswit on Ghost Protocol. I wanna say there was a story about JJ "wanting to," but no confirmation.
A Star Wars movie with scenes in native 15/70 is pretty much the only thing that would get me to see it anywhere other than the Uptown.

A Tomorrowland movie? Except for Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney hasn't had much success turning their theme park attractions into films. An It's a Small World movie will likely bring about the apocalypse. ;)

Could that be a dressing room at the studio?

Is Hamill just f**kin' with us by growing a beard and going for a Guiness style side parting? He's looking good in that photo (Peter is looking well too).
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
.
Actors gain and lose weight for roles all the time. Mark is supposed to have been getting into shape for the movie for a while. (Probably working on his sword fighting too?) Can't wait to see him in character again!

Mark Hamill is literally the only thing about the new films that makes me want to watch them.
Personally I've never seen anything of Abrams that has really been exceptional, or even particularly good. I find him extremely over rated, and I don't understand how he's managed to continually be given such large projects. I mean, he's responsible for some pretty lacklustre series and films, most notably Lost.
His projects make money, which is the bottom line in Hollywood. And I'd rather have him direct an SW film than say, Michael Bay? ;)

Oh goodness, Zac Efron might really be in Episode VII after all.
I think i might laugh though if this turns out, since Zac Efron being in Ep. VII was a common joke back when Disney first bought Lucasfilm.

Or you could just try a new director who doesn't phone in every single project they take on, someone who perhaps wants to make something even remotely substantial.
Hey, we could even get a decent script writer while we're at it. One that doesn't shoe horn in literally anyone they can in a no doubt moronic way in order to desperately give the fans and their bosses an erection.
We could even attempt to cast some relatively new actors that aren't already Hollywood 'gold', to both attempt to rekindle what made the original trilogy so memorable and fresh whilst steering clear of the endless abyss of perfect looking people that can't act for shit.
Or we could not...

Or at least a director that didn't initially turn the project down because he had another large franchise to take care of. Someone that didn't need some hour or more meeting to get them to take the job. Someone with genuine desire to make the film.Vozlov said:
