Yeah, there are some more disagreeable types who have already taken the stance that anything Disney puts out isn't official in any way.

I don't think "robot" has ever been uttered on screen in a SW film?

If they traced the robots here, they may have learned who they sold them to. And that would lead them home!

Even if they put music up front, nobody will be able to hear it, as the audience will be going nuts anyway. :)

I dunno how you're able to live continuously in 1996, but I envy you.

There was loud applause during the Fox and LF logos opening nights of the SEs and Ep1. Mild cheering for Ep. 2 and nothing when I saw Ep.3.

For Ep.7, people will be too busy tweeing "OH-M-GEE! The Movee is startin! Gonna b tha best eva!! YOLO! LMFAO!!" to even know what the opening logos look like.

Hey! Let's keep a little optimism here.

Not at Alamo Drafthouse. ;)

I'm jealous!  The audience isn't quite the same at good 'ol Cinnema 16...  : (

I actually haven't been to one yet. They famously booted a teenage brat who refused to stop texting during a movie, and turned her angry phone call rant about it into an ad. ;)

They are only just starting to open up on the West Coast. The newest multiplex in my town seems to be enforcing similar polices though.

The audiences where I live behave themselves pretty well. Every once in a blue moon I might have to kick the seat of the occasional phone glancer though.

It'd be nice if my local theater chain adopted the policies of the Drafthouse as I don't think they'll ever be able to get a foothold in my state. Harkins owns this territory.

This, a thousand times this. I don't even go to the movie theather anymore (actually you could count the times I've been on a couple of hands - let's include toes, tops) but from what I'm told people do anything but watch the screen now. People have always slept, and we all know what goes on in the last row, where all you can hear is slug sounds, but apparently now the whole place is lit up with the glow of smartphones and resounds with loud chatter and babble.

So just put on a slideshow accompanied by a radio play. It'll cost less and not many people will notice.

The 21st century never fails to reinforce my moderate Neo-Luddism.

Alamo Drafthouse is the only place I'll see movies anymore.  Strict no talking or you're booted, no children, bottomless popcorn, plus wine at your seat.  Perfect.  I've been four times already this year.

Sounds like a horrible place to see movies, despite the awesome strict policies. It's all for nought if there are waiters buzzing around all the time serving food and drinks while you're trying to watch a film. I can't imagine anything more distracting.

At least you know that's what you are paying for, I've never once paid extra to have the experience of having to tell other people to shut up.

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

I'm picturing a sign that says, "$10 to have somebody ruin the movie for you."

There was one young lady who refused to shut up during Cabin in the Woods (I think) after multiple requests who went home with an ingot of my nicotine gum in her badly permed hair.

There was also the time the idiot from Primal Scream were chatting through How To Get a Head in Advertising in the Duke of Yorks in Brighton. They were bigger than me but I gave them a very hard stare.

I noticed that ANH's climax is a space battle, not a lightsaber duel. I'd love to see another lightsaberless climax.

Now that you mention that fact, I'd totally go for that too!

You write what you want on a piece of paper, they come by very discreetly and get it.  After a bit, they come by just as discreetly and deliver it.  The bill is settled up after the film.  Honestly, on more than one occasion I didn't even notice they'd taken the paper as they walked by.

At least you know that's what you are paying for, I've never once paid extra to have the experience of having to tell other people to shut up.

You write that on a piece of paper too.   For the record;  Maybe because it's an adult environment to start with, it just isn't an issue.  I've only seen one couple asked to shut up or leave.  Oddly enough, they quietly chose to leave.

No doubt it's not for everyone.  Personally, it's more than worth it to me to watch a film in a civilized environment, in the seat of my choice, with food and wine brought to me.

The same movie at the local Edwards isn't much less.  But again, to each his own.

I remember having a scotch on the rocks watching the Alien 'Director's Cut' in the Vue cinema in Edinburgh.

It was a special section of the upper gallery and it had a special holder with a napkin and everything. It was like traveling business class...in space.

I hate film theatres of any kind. I just prefer to watch the film on my own. It is not just talking... someone eating or drinking something next to you can be just as annoying.

I, like a lot of people with a partner would prefer not to have my first viewing of a film of quality spoiled by the significant other asking who "He" is and why "He" is "Doing That".

I get enough of that watching box sets...       and porn.

Going to an Indie Cinema is my preference.

They attract a better class of person than the multiplexes, people who respect the cinema, the film and their other cinema-goers. They're often cheaper, have better films, better snacks and if you're lucky some quality Ales on tap. Or on the other end of the scale, a gigantic iMax screen is often trouble free as the steep price of the ticket seems concentrate the minds of the viewers somewhat.

I shall be trying to book early for the latter where EpVII is concerned. Although funnily enough I hope my first screening of EpVII is packed to the rafters with loud cheering and boistrous fans (Some dressed in costumes and waving Lightsabers above their heads) just like there was for the SE Trilogy and EpI (EpII and EpIII just got silence). Let's face it I'm gonna go see it more than once, so I can go to a quiet screening the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or...

Just imagine attending the midnight screening of (hopefully) the first real Star Wars movie since 1983. Goosebumps.

If I get half the goosebumps I got back in then, I'd be happy. There is an electric feeling seeing a movie with the right crowd on opening day.

Ironically (or maybe not), I've found that the Saturday morning screenings - when the tickets are at their cheapest - always result in a better experience. The audience is as behaved as possible and there are zero projection problems.

You would think the people who payed more to see a movie would actually want to, y'know, put away their damn phone and enjoy the movie, but that's somehow never, ever the case. Maybe they feel like they've paid for that privilege, who knows.

Of course, you're absolutely right that skipping the multiplex and going to an indie cinema is the best solution.
