I think I'd be more interested in Kanan if his lightsaber wasn't a generic blue and none of that crap with the Inquisitor was in there.

Me too.

The new Jedi looks like crap. They had another generic Cowboy shooter type in SWTOR, now they just rehash the same hackneyed garbage on the new horrendous show they're doing. Does the SW license have any creativity left?

My problem with the inquisitor is that he's Darth Vader with everything that makes Darth Vader awesome stripped away.

Also, in this era, there should only be two Jedi and two Sith.

Uh this is going to suck... as I predicted.

An awful copy of Kyle Katarn.

I'll reserve judgement until I actually see a completed episode or two.

 My thoughts exactly.

Begs the question; Why the hell didn't they just go with Kyle Katarn?

This is set like what 14 years before ANH? I don't think Kyle has even joined the Imperial Academy at this point. The JK games are all set post-ROTJ.

Maybe they would have to pay the person(s) who created Kyle?

LFL 100% owns everything created under the Star Wars brand and the EU authors are aware of this when they sign up to write EU.

But with the new management, someone might look for a loophole? The "work for hire" clause hasn't stopped people who created various superheroes for DC and Marvel from suing for compensation over the years.

 That's a possibility.

Well I have seen enough. I already thought the "Inquisitor" was awful enough not to actually see these series... and now this.

Jedi that escaped the purge have been a part of the EU for ages. What rankles me is that it's supposed to be Vader who is hunting down the remaining Jedi but they keep cooking up side characters to do the job for him.

As for only two Sith, that hasn't changed. Just because the Inquisitor wields a red lightsaber doesn't make him a Sith. A Darkside user at best. Unless you want to claim that Mara Jade was a Sith while working as the Emperor's Hand.

Yeah, you can tell an awful lot from just a couple of model sheets and a few fleeting seconds of animatics. ;)

There are things that requires only a glance to know you are not going to like them. I am sure you can think of several examples for yourself. If you can't think of any, please let know and I give will you one. :)

I'm not overly impressed, but it's really early to jump to conclusions. The aesthetic of this show is very cool though.

Any show takes a while to find itself.  The Clone Wars was pretty hokey in the beginning, but it got much better after a few years. The "Lost Missions" on Netflix will probably be excellent.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed by yet another Jedi myself, but Dave worked magic with The Clone Wars. He even managed to turn pacifist Mandalorians into something good, so I'll wait and see what this looks like before I write it off totally.

Admittedly, these series could be potentially great. They are not as polluted with the PT as CW series.

But from what we got so far, I hate the main villain because he is another force user and an alien on top of that. They always try to stick some secret apprentices (idiotic Starkiller etc.) and force user minions under Emperor and Vader. I just can't stand that. On other hand, I dislike seemingly the main hero (this Kanan) because it is obviously an awful copy of Katarn and I think he looks dumb too.

In an ideal world, two main villains would be a high-ranking imperial officer and his top operative (sort of an Imperial Agent from SWTOR type of right hand man/woman). While the main hero would be a young rebel with no force sensitivity. But that will never work because the kids want to see the kind of crap they are making now.

This is an interesting observation.

A tip of the hat to the Carmine Infantino run of the Marvel Book? Mr. Infantino passed away last year.

I think it's likely the action figures and toys could have been used as a artist reference back then, as you could put them in angles not seen in the material they got from Lucasfilm. The Kenner Imperial Troop Transporter even made an appearance.

Sucks to be the guys riding in the buckets though. Some pesky rebel starts shooting at you, and you can't even duck. And forget about pit stops. ;)

Hopefully, Rebels will solve the mystery of how troopers actually get in and out of those things.

It's not how the toy works but I always figured they were actually ramps. So the troops can ride inside but if they're on alert they can step out onto those mini-balconies. Then when they need to disembark the walls come down and they can just walk down them.

I had it when I was a kid. The later Sears catalog exclusive version had slightly cooler decals, but no sound effects.

I'm sure the buckets on the CGI model will open up somehow. And this old fan will chuckle if they stuff some poor droid in the "trunk", or slap those prisoner restraint units on someone's head.

I was really hoping that there would be no jedi or sith or lightsabers in this series at all. I'm so sick of that. It's the least interesting thing about the Star Wars world to me and it's been done to death.

Perhaps this says more about me than the show, but I think I'd be in a better position to enjoy what it has to offer if it wasn't presented as an inaugural piece of the new 'canon.'

I think it's the least interesting thing because it's been done to death. Jedi and lightsabers used to be cool, man. Now I'd rather see a show about literally any other profession in the galaxy. How about the adventures of Professor (starwarsyname) and his class of young xenobiologists as they search the galaxy for only the most exotic plants and creatures to bring back to the Imperial Palace, fulfilling order 67: Entertain Palpatine While His Battle-Moon is Being Built.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I second this. What happened to space battles, troops, and officers?

Tobar and I discussed the new kid already, but I'll throw my opinions out here so everyone else can see them because I know there's going to be a shitstorm.

My first thought was "Oh no, another Force-sensitive character, ugh, what are you doing, Dave?" But this follows along with my character plan prediction pretty well. We now have the Mentor (Kanan), we have funny droid(s) (Chopper), we have Jedi Pupil (Ezra) who also serves as sarcastic guy, all we're missing is the Female and the Alien Sidekick. Maybe someone who doesn't believe in the Force, but that could easily be the Female or the Alien Sidekick... I feel like whatever remaining characters we have will be what make the show actually work, though, since they (hopefully) won't be Force-sensitive.

I'm glad to see that Kanan has been pushed into the mentor role, because the last thing I wanted was our main protagonist being a PT remnant. So I am glad in a way that Ezra is Force sensitive, but I would have preferred to just have Ezra and no Kanan, because then we have a character that is discovering the Force on his own, someone who can find ancient manuscripts or something and eventually meet up with Luke after ROTJ and become a Jedi.

Tobar brought up an interesting plot that perhaps Kanan is the initial pilot of the ship and then dies at the end of the movie/pilot. This is brilliant, as far as I'm concerned. We have this ex-Jedi trainee (apparently) who has survived the purge and is laying low somewhere, knowing that he's destined to keep his past a secret forever, believing that he's the last of his kind, depressed, but still making a living. He's put his lightsaber away and vowed never to touch it again because of all the memories it brings back.

Then he finds Ezra somehow, and he feels another presence in the Force for the first time in ages, maybe he thinks it's his old master at first because he's so out of practise and is disappointed when it's just some street urchin. Then he thinks, wait a minute, I'm not the last Jedi, and he realizes that he has to ensure the survival of the order by training this kid in the ways of the Force (because obviously they don't know about Luke and Obi-Wan and Yoda).

Obviously there's some tumult surrounding getting the kid, who is a loner obviously, to agree and team up with Kanan, but eventually the kid gives in, and they adventure around and it's all fun and games.

Then Vader or the Emperor or the Inquisitor senses them (maybe this is The Inquisitor's jurisdiction) or they get into trouble and are seen/sensed to be Force-Sensitive and the Inquisitor sets out to destroy them. Kanan realizes that this is serious and that he has to protect the future of the Jedi and picks up the lightsaber again, and works on teaching Ezra everything he knows, eventually this culminates in the Inquisitor cornering the crew and Kanan pulling an Obi-Wan, realizing that he has to give his life in order to ensure that the Jedi survive. Ezra realizes this isn't a game anymore and that he has to grow up and stop struggling with his "destiny" and seek out Jedi teachings or some red herring to make Kanan's sacrifice matter and Ezra to be a Jedi eventually.

Now that would be awesome. It's not likely to happen like that since Dave talks about the potential for Kanan and Ezra's relationship at near the end of the video, but it would really make both characters work, in my mind.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.
