I wish those scenes that were cut from 2001 had survived.

Always wanted to see the premiere cut.

As for Lucas on 2001 he is simply admiring Kubrick's work. 

With his own films he only ever saw the flaws.

Funny that Kubrick thought star wars was trash and wanted to top it with AI which he never of course made.

Those old wives tales about Kubrick not being a warm human being are mostly poppycock you know. ;)

George was once perceived as a "cold" director post THX 1138.

Growing up, I always thought We'd find out in the PT that Obi-Wan Kenobi's real name was Ben Lars and that he and Owen are brothers. That Obi-Wan was Ben's Jedi name or some such thing. When the character Qui-Gon Jinn was announced, I was sure my hunch was correct. Qui-Gon sounds like Obi-Wan, so I figured that, again, it was just a 'Jedi name', not his real name.

I was wrong, it didn't turn out that way.

But it should have.

So I was going to post images of the three main characters of Star Wars pointing their fingers sort of signifying a "111" because I thought it'd be neat for this page, which on default setting I believe, is 111. And as I am twister111 I thought it would be appropriate that I do that. So I found the following pics. (1), and (2) for Han and Luke but for Leia all I could really find was her pointing her gun... So I decided to throw out my original idea and go for Leia pointing her gun!

I never noticed Leia's "wristwatch" before. Kind of looks like those newfangled smart watches hitting the market now.

Of course. But in a conversation about such devices just the other day, I mentioned Tracy, and got a blank expression for my trouble. ;)

It became a wrist tv in later years as well. Odd that nobody seriously revisited the wristwatch tv concept again after the 80's. The technology wasn't up to snuff at the time, (washed out black and white screen and a wire running up your arm to the tuner) but even kids toys have LCD screens in them now.

I wonder if Leia's is a custom prop, or a modified game watch?

It could be just a normal watch that looked right for the costume.

If I'm not mistaken, Luke uses something similar (but different, I foget how...) in the Sandstorm sequence to start up his X-Wing.

Watching old Flash Gordon episodes and found this fun little reference:

Other movie serials of the era used similar crawls, so I have no idea if Flash did it first or not.
