No spoilers.
It isn't often a movie comes along and totally blows me away. This one did. I know the reviews have been very mixed. If I had to guess at a reason, I'd say it's because a great many people aren't sure what to make of it. It's certainly tough to describe.
I'm very familiar with the cultural significance of someone being labeled a Walter Mitty, it's been part of our world since 1939. It was coined from a short story that ran in The New Yorker. For the unwashed, it's a label given to people who have big imaginations, dreams, aspirations, etc, yet never act on them. Usually it's out of fear or insecurity.
No surprise then that it resonated with me. I've certainly been a Walter Mitty in a lot of respects all my life. I've had some some big global adventures, but I've also sat in a board room and imagined how I'd dispense someone who is being a bully or an ass. I've rescued the damsel in distress more times than I can count. I've saved animals, stopped the bad guys, and all other manners of heroic deeds. Probably safe to assume there are plenty of us on this board. We do, after all, sit and discuss a fantasy world in depth.
I've definitely zoned out plenty of times while playing out entire scenarios in my head. Also, very much like Walter, I have a muse. That in itself can be very powerful and moving. It can also be very liberating. It has for me.
This film went through several leads and directors the past 15 years or so before being made. After reading who was involved in the past, that was a Godsend. Ben Stiller is perfect as the lead, outstanding as the director. Equally outstanding is Kristen Wiig. She captures the everywoman perfectly. Nice to see her in something serious.
I'll most likely see this again this weekend. I will absolutely buy this as soon as it's available. No two ways about it, I give The Secret Life of Walter Mitty a solid 5 out of 5 winks.

^I'm glad someone else likes the film. I saw an advanced screening with a friend of mine about a month and a half ago, and we both loved it. I was really surprised when the reviews came in. I've caught the film again with my girlfriend. She enjoyed it, and I did too. The second time around I noticed some of the dialogue and characterization left a little to be desired, but just some. I still felt it was a really good movie, completely underrated and undeserving of the negative reaction it has gotten.

Rather tedious and nonsensical. Vincent Price is awesome as always, though.

I quite liked it, I also got the impression that a lot of people didn't because they were expecting Arnold to play a catchphrase spewing killing machine.
The movie wasn't perfect, but it was interesting enough to keep me entertained.
I didn't even realize that 50 cent was in this movie - he was utterly unrecognizable to me sans his 'yo dawg' persona.
2.5 balls.

Everything is Illuminated
Elijah Wood is very Elijah Wood, and there's a lot of Awkward formality played as humor. It's a beautiful but slow movie, so It's a cautious recommendation.

Shrooms 3/10
Watched only because I am into psychedelics and psychedelic imagery. On the imagery front it was pretty nice. On the everything else front it was pretty terrible.

Attack of the Ridiculousness
The dialogue was top notch, but action scenes do suffer because of the few visual jokes. The musical numbers can go on too long as well.
A vast improvement over Attack of the Clones.

It's shorter than a normal episode, with less jokes so the audience could laugh and not miss a joke. I can see rating it like that.Tack said:

Since when is 7 out of 10 a low score? I know some here feel that certain films warrant a perfect score, but a 7 is a pretty high score for me. I wouldn't rate most films I've seen above a 6.
Also, MST3K sucks. There are a handful of movies streaming on Netflix that I'd love to revisit, but I don't need three silhouettes telling me how goofy these obviously cheesy films are. I wish there was an option to turn them off and just enjoy Gamera for what it is.

Well, seeing as a perfect 6 equates to an average rating in my ratings system (3/5 for overall quality, 3/5 for enjoyability), I still see the movie as being worse than that, so it gets a few decimal points lower.

LOL. I've only rated it as high as I did because I liked the set design.
