Those are sweet! Why are the official releases never even close to this? Oh that's right LucasFilm and Fox have always been operated by twats.

Quick question, does the U thing need to be on the spine? As in to keep the covers "international".

 Thanks :)

The 'Universal' logo indicates that this is suitable for all audiences - I put the logo there because it's how I remember my old old VHS looking mainly but you'll find this or similar logos on most BD and DVD releases. I wanted the spines to not look out of places in peoples collections.

Ok that didn't take long - edited the Jedi art, looks much better now!

Just watched ANH v.2.5 for the second time. Do you mind if we discuss some "changes" to "Specialized" Edition?

Right. Here in Australia our ratings systems have always been different, and don't have such logos like "U" etc. Mind you they got REAL ugly a few years ago, where as opposed to being thin font watermarks that once matched the artwork and weren't too distracting, they're now massive solid colored logos depending on the rating.

Terrible:

Thanks. I'm pretty familiar with torrents, so that's the route I'd prefer, but I can't seem to get an invite to myspleen. The user that links to can't receive any more private messages. And I don't see these torrents on other sites. Anyone know how I can get an invite? I'll definitely keep my ratios 1+.

Thanks!

Can anyone PM me or post the best way to convert the MKV to a BD WITH a Menu and retaining all the audio tracks? I have demuxed the whole thing, and tried rebuilding it in DVD Architect but it didn't like the DTS files, nor the H264 video. I tried renaming the h264 to mp4 etc...and nothing seemed to work. Please no comments about just using the MKV and using a streaming device (which i already have...) and telling me how physical media is dead, blah blah blah. Or telling me to just wait...

Google can help you though .....

that is just making a Blu from existing files, not converting the MKV. Unless I missed something...

and the only reason for my "end" is that is often the "answer" people give. Nothing to really answer the question...

ImgBurn will help you burn disc once you're done.

tsmuxer is what others here have used for a basic disc. No menus, but it all burns successfully, and you can cycle through audio tracks. If you only want a couple audio tracks, you can choose what you want.

For now, I'm happy having the disc I burned as a physical copy that seems to play in players/PS3 just fine.

There are also trials out there for other software which should do what you're after. Some pages ago (maybe 10?), there was a good demo out there that looked promising, but had some kind of audio track/menu limit, IIRC.

Thanks for the replies...I didn't use TSMuxer, because of the lack of menus (and it didn't like the MKV as I downloaded it), but thinking about it, maybe it can spit out a MTS file (in the Stream folder) that I can use in DVD Architect without reencoding.

And I would wholeheartedly disagree with you on "There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch". Harmy provides us with his fabulous work for "free", I'm using free tools (at the moment) to do this work.

On any forum, it seems there are those that will help and those that just want to tell you "their thoughts" on why you are doing it wrong. I see it all the time in this thread alone. And I have Googled a million ways to make a BD from a MKV and they almost always lead to TSMuxer, which wouldn't even open the MKV I had. It would remux the files, so I am trying something on my own, thank you very much.

You have a very limited understanding of the word "free."  But you're welcome!

One step in between - you have to de-mux the mkv to have the .mp4 video and audio tracks, which then import into tsmuxer.

To do this, you'll need to browse the program folder of mkvmerge - look for mkvextract gui. Once you've de-muxed the .mkv file, you'll have one video file, and tons of audio - include all, or just what you want in tsmuxer, and you'll have a folder set that can be burned with imgburn.

At first, I missed that step as well. Hopefully this helps :)

I think you mean raw (.h264) video - you do not need to mux into .mp4.

And ask away. I think a v3.0 is inevitable in time, although I'd probably be starting more or less from scratch.

Back in October I said I had a couple of suggestions for improvements if you ever did a v3.0. Here now are my belated thoughts - but I stress again that v2.5 is an incredible achievement and this should be taken as constructive criticism...

The first is a problem inherent to Lowry's cleanup of the films for the 2004 masters:

The red lights at the far end of the corridor have a piercing intensity that just looks photographically unnatural.

Here's the same frame from the GOUT DVD for comparison:

There are several examples of this, e.g. the red reflections off C3PO's body here:

And blue here:

GOUT frames for reference:

This has been discussed at length before, basically Lowry's algorithm seems to have taken any highlights with a bit of colour, decided that they are obscured by film dust/dirt and given them a huge unnatural boost. The same process was responsible for the magenta blaster flashes and Luke's green lightsabre.

I'm not sure if there's an easy fix to the damage inflicted by this shoddy cleanup.

The second issue though you probably can do something about - compression artefacts. I was surprised and a little disappointed that there was noticeable artefacting in a 11GB video encode. I go back to the death star control room (but there are a few other places where it is particularly noticeable), look at the macroblocking on the wall and hand, and the mosquito noise around the lights:

For comparison, here is a screenshot from a 1080p HDTV encode that is only 8GB:

Did you use x264 for the encoding, or some other encoder?

All of this compression is already in the lossless file - I don't know where it was first introduced but I guess it must have already been in the source I was using.

I think uncle George and ILM's work on the "masters" before they gave it to Lowry can be thanked for those kind of issues.

Has anyone else tried the steps from the first page on playing this on a PS3 because for me it does not work

As I understand it, there are no freeware Bluray authoring packages (or even affordable commercial packages) that can handle the number of audio tracks in the mkv.

I believe MultiAVCHD can create a Bluray with menus from an mkv directly, but only with a limited number of soundtracks.

Check back through the thread as Harmy intended to try a 30 day trial of software that may support all the soundtracks.

From what I recall about DVD Architect, you just use it to create the menu and then manually edit the structure to shoehorn in the Bluray files.

I think you may have to ditch some of the soundtracks to get this to work right now, or worst case, create two versions of the movie with half the soundtracks on each:  using MultiAVCHD.

Physical media is not dead, but I think the population is starting to move to streaming services instead:  granted more work needs to be done to make it more stable, however why buy physical media when you will only watch it occasionally due to there being so much material to choose from.

So much material is available in mkv format that it is more cost effective to get a media player or Bluray player that can handle the format on attached USB drive than converting to optical media each time.
