I see...Does converting it to any of these DVD compatible files hinder quality?  I obviously want to convert to whatever DVD compatible file that preserves the most quality.  Seems like Mpeg2 would be the best choice, since practically every DVD player is made to support that.  Do you guys think I can and should convert the avchd .iso to an mpeg2 and then burn it to the dvd?

EDIT: well, maybe not.  It seems people are saying that .mp4 will preserve the most quality...This one guy said just import the .iso into a DVD burning program and just have it convert it to a DVD format from there.  What do you guys think?  Sorry for my ignorance in this topic.  I've actually never burned any movies to a DVD before, so I've really got no idea what I'm doing.

I assume I need to convert the .iso that I extracted from the 41 .rar files, correct?

Thanks for the help so far guys.  Still can't wait to watch this :)  I just hope that I don't mess up in any way and only have to use one DVD :)

I usually convert all my videos from different formats to .m2ts (Blu-ray Disc Audio-Video) using *DELETED* program, and then burn all .m2ts files to DVD using the freeware ImgBurn. It works great!

I downloaded the v2.5 MKV, remuxed and converted to BDMV and burned it to BD-R myself, oh what a treat. STAR WARS. With Han as a stone cold bounty hunter killer running from the Empire and the #1 crime boss in the galaxy, reluctant to take a "chance" job with the two most force adept humans in the galaxy (two out of three we find out in ROTJ who Han romances). Your STAR WARS Harmy, or the original 1977 release, just has a much more real feel to it, the scenes hold more weight than the garbage that is called "Special Edition." Haven't gotten to ESB or ROTJ yet, but I thank you and all who are responsible for the return of these original masterpieces of film.

My only question is when do we properly remake Episodes I, II, and III? Or I guess make, since remake acknowledges the existence of those films, which I don't. They're dead to me.

No one will ever do it. Best thing you can hope for is Star Wars VII being actually good.

I searched through and couldn't see, but does Harmy intend to redo Empire and Return from the HD source material?  It must be a daunting task, I was just curious.  Regardless I'm grateful for all the time and effort Harmy put in, his work is truly appreciated and amazing.

Empire and Jedi already use HD source material in v1.0, but Harmy has said he intends to revisit them, release better and less-compressed versions, etc.  Empire is slated to go first, and he's already released some test clips.

That's awesome.  Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I've seen all the re-edits and dub ideas for them. I'm talking about complete refilming using no original scenes. Strike Hayden whatever his last name is from the record. One can dream.

Easily the most ridiculous idea i've seen on this forum.

Therefore it needs to happen.

I wouldn't say it's the best movie ever personally but I did like it a lot - definitely liked it a lot more than Citizen Kane, that's for sure.

BTW. this is how I watch all 1.33:1 films - the red curtain makes it feel like I'm actually watching it in an old cinema.

I have both the DVD and the even more now rare OOP BD of this by Criterion, and while their decision to embed pillars so as to ensure people watch it "correctly" on 16:9 displays was controversial, one can argue why they did it (essentially it was more to ensure less picture loss due to overscan of older or weird current sets that still tend to do this).

Anyhow, I don't think red curtain pillars are great for preserving stuff, but if you like it for screening things, hey that's your call. :) Everyone likes different things.

Hi Harmy, while waiting impatiently for the blu-ray I got to work on some box artwork for the discs. I like the ones you made but I fancied giving it a go using the classic theatrical posters and I tried to keep it minimal (saving audio/despec/video information for an inlay) - I don't know if anyone on here would like them but thought I would upload them in case.

Wanted to run it by you in case you took issue with it at all, if so I will take them down. I purposely left off most mentions of despecialized as to me these are the definitive editions of the movies in HD, nothing else comes close so this, for me, is just Star Wars, and nothing more. Does that make sense?

Also, did you manage to find an appropriate piece of software to make the BD disc yet? I tried to find something but kept running into brick walls but I will keep looking if you are still having trouble yourself.

Thanks again x

Those are sweet! Why are the official releases never even close to this? Oh that's right LucasFilm and Fox have always been operated by twats.

Quick question, does the U thing need to be on the spine? As in to keep the covers "international".

The Lowry master isn't 2K, just 1080p

Correct.

And for those new to this site, nor should the late John Lowry or his then company ever be blamed for the shoddiness of the release. His company did as requested by LucasFilm under less time than he would normally recommend and were not permitted to work with the original film elements in the same manner they've done with countless other classics.

Those keeping track, Lowry Digital were later bought out by DTS, and after some more selling and name changing are now known as Reliance Mediaworks.

For more info, take a sneak peak of the Lowry details here: http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html
Also recommend people to grab a copy of MK's book. I bought it years ago off Amazon, and thought it was a great read.

When the latest versions of the Despecialized ESB and ROTJ will be available?

Author

Am I right in saying that there is only 1 version of each Despecialized ESB and ROTJ?

i.e...the 7.8gig versions right?

Cheers

I plan to live forever, so far so good.

EPISODE 4 is the version 2.5. EPISODES 5&6 are the version 1.0. That's why I asked  - based on my knowledge that further versions of EPISODES 5&6 in process - whether the latest ones are available. And still wondering when THESE will be.

The current versions of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are both 1.0. Harmy is working on new versions of those two films (you can check the thread for Empire for some clips of what he's done so far on that title). They will be ready when Harmy is finished.

Meanwhile, I have greatly enjoyed watching the v2.5 mkv:  no need for a Bluray.

Seriously people, research and buy a cheap media/bluray player that will upconvert 720p24 to 1080p24 from a USB drive and watch v2.5 in all its goodness:  the days of DVD are over and Bluray optical discs are rapidly going the same way.  It's worth it to see Star Wars as it should be seen, right now.

I'm really not trying to derail this thread but I have to say physical media is not even close to being dead. I may come from a bias as I have close to 1000 DVDs and blu-rays, but considering that even Microsoft has adopted the format recently and sales going strong throughout the world (the US in its backwards way of thinking seems to be pushing for online streaming content with some of the slowest Internet speeds in the developed world. I've seriously shut down Netflix in the middle of watching stuff because of how uneven the quality is, catching up on Doctor Who recently, I'd have an episode fluctuate between 1080, 480, and 240 in one scene. It was a major distraction!). Germany apparently is thriving on blu-ray sales and big box stores are expanding their selections due to the demand for it in that country.

Sorry for the off topic rant guys, hope everyone is having an awesome holiday! I'll be off to the mountains in the morning to celebrate with my girlfriends family as my family did everything last weekend.

Interesting will be the version 3 of Despecialzed ANH? And what version is the ultimate goal (of all 3 installations)?

Author

Hey, all. New around here. I'm having a heck of a time trying to find a all three of these despecialized versions. I'm quite excited. I own the last non-special edition THX laserdiscs, but these sound even better.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

You'll need torrents or Jdownloader to download these movies. Go to the very 1st post in this thread, here you'll see links to tehparadox.com (download via jDownloader) and myspleen.org(com? don't remember - download via torrents)  You'll need to create accounts in order to get access to the data which is links in a raw plain text form. The rest depends on which the way from the aforementioned two you choose to perform the action. After it's complete you'll get .rar files ( or a single file of combined former separate .rar files) that you should unpack so that unpacker (unarchiver) combined them. To unpack them you'll have to enter the password that is provided in the 1st post. These files are in .mkv format, so you'll need a media player that would be capable of playing them (VLC is the best one I can recommend.) If you feel uncertain of how to accomplish that regarding details I strongly urge you to write to the member HanDuet, he's nice guy, is ready to help and was great explaining me "how to".

Thanks. I'm pretty familiar with torrents, so that's the route I'd prefer, but I can't seem to get an invite to myspleen. The user that links to can't receive any more private messages. And I don't see these torrents on other sites. Anyone know how I can get an invite? I'll definitely keep my ratios 1+.

Thanks!
