Actually all these giant monster on the rampage movies have their origins in Lovecraft who inspired Edgar Wallace to invent Kong when he reported the brief awakening of this snoozing giant.

Dear Hollywood,

Please note that the structural stability of most tall buildings is dependent on the central service core.

If this core is damaged or removed, the whole building will collapse.

You Fail Physics Forever.

Yeah, because everyone watches Godzilla films for their realism...

; )

 very true.

I'm not a huge fan of Godzilla films, but I thought the premise is always that the monster attacks real cities (originally Tokyo, Osaka, etc.)

If you're going to depict a fictional city with buildings that defy the laws of physics, you may as well have it attack Gotham City or Springfield.

That reminds of the crossover fanfic I tried to write when I was in the sixth grade about Mr. Burns sending Godzilla to attack the Simpsons while they were sailing on the Titanic II.

And that reminds me of the fanfic I did write about a crossover between Godzilla, Pinky & the Brain and Gilligan's Island!

Godzilla films have always favored the fantastical to the realistic. Do the sounds and fire in outer space bother you in Star Wars? It's a fantasy film, not a documentary.

Wow, and I thought with all the different available versions to view/preserve, I thought you guys would be all over these films.

More OT-ish post: "Can somebody seek out and do a capture of the letterboxed Hong Kong laserdisc of Gigan? It's the original 1972 international version of the film, not the newer prints that were used for the Sci-Fi Channel broadcasts or the DVD version Sony made from texltless elements. There's a VCD version more widely available, but complete international versions in their original form are few and far between (let alone fully letterboxed), so a preservation of the laserdisc would be very desirable."

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Ok an OT-ish post:

You see Mr. Lucas, it is possible to release two versions of the same film.

If we can accept the existence in a movie of a giant tyrannosaurus rex-like monster that is bullet and missile proof, awakened and powered by a nuclear bomb test and has "nuclear breath", does it really matter if the physics involving building destructing are realistic?

As a matter of fact, I just ordered the German Godzilla Raids Again DVD because it has better shadow detail and looks better than any Japanese release, but of course it has German credits and is missing about a minute or so of footage, so I'm preparing to make the best looking version of the Japanese cut with the missing footage sourced from the 2008 HV broadcast.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

I have no idea if this is true or if you're just doing the most effective OT.com parody ever.

...both? Seriously, I am in fact working on such a project and will post the finished DVD/.mkv on MySpleen and possibly Asian DVD Club.

Well, I think what Moth3r is driving at is that if the world the giant fictional monster is in reacts realistically to the giant fictional monster, it makes the giant fictional monster easier to believe in.

I personally prefer a bit of stylized artistic license, for lack of a better term, when dealing with fantastical subjects. (like explosions and sound in space)

I just realized something.   I remember when Godzilla 1985(as it was called here) came out and how neat it looked.   I also remember as kid thinking how ancient the original Godzilla looked to me.   Next year,  Godzilla 1985 will be as old as the original was back then.   This thought makes me feel so old.

I'm thinking about doing a fan-edit (is it still considered a fan edit if the editor isn't a fan of the film?) of 'Zilla '98 which would mainly consist of changing the title card to read "The BEAST From 20,000 Fathoms!" and removing any mention of the monsters name. It wouldn't make it a better film, but it would make it less insulting.

That's pretty funny. I'm not too worried about 'Zilla '98 having any influence on Godzilla 2014 though. There's been 6 Godzilla films made since that one and 5 of 'em are really good. Besides, Gareth Edwards has proven to be an actual Godzilla fan, not just someone who sees a money-making opportunity and TOHO is accepting this one as cannon, which gives me much faith.

I bet he was given loads of creative freedom and control over the project - the first time he's dealing with a serious budget, btw - by the suits who handed him their $150 000 000 in order for him to make this movie.

He may be a fan and he may have talent, but that alone does not a good movie make. So far I can say that Edwards seems competent, his approach - in theory - is fine, and that the teaser was absolutely terrible and filled with atrocious CGI.
