Amazon has BioShock 1 and 2 Steam keys on sale in a bundle for $5.

Would you kindly stop talking about Bioshock on sale!

Xbox marketplace has all of the BioShock 2 DLC on sale through today.  Minerva's Den is $5, which should be a nobrainer for Xbox based BioShock fans.  I also really liked the Protector Trials, which frankly surprised me because I don't usually play much of the 'arena/trial' content in these kind of games.

Minerva's Den is now available on Steam!  And, what's more, it's on sale for $5, but not for long.

Formerly, Minerva's Den was only available for PC through the now defunct Games for Windows Marketplace.

Interesting....the initial reports were that Minerva's Den was going to come free for everyone that owned Bioshock 2 on Steam....

Hmm... in light of that, $5 went from being a deal to being a rip!

Still worth it though.

And sadly my BS2 is not from Steam, but from Gamefly.  :(

I've been playing the Zelda games for n64 (ocarina of time and majoras mask) on the pc connected to my hdtv with an hdmi cable, rendering all graphics at 1080P and with a custom texture pack that replaces low res graphics (which already look better upscaled) with hi res textures, and the pack is over 20 times the size of the entire game, it's a whole new experience, and it looks beautiful.  It no longer looks like a n64 game.  The models look SLIGHTLY out of date now, but even they have been touched up and look better than they did. (new images for their eyes and clothes for example).  But the backgrounds, the skies, the walls, everything else looks like it's out of a PS3 game.  No joke.  If your a n64 or a zelda fan and you've never played these games with enhanced textures, make sure you do sometime, as the results are truly breathtaking and give a whole new experience yet while still having the same feel.  I actually think it looks far superior than the 3ds remake as it is much truer to the original game, except it's in HD.

Fyi, these screenshots don't do it justice.  The difference between them isn't very noticeable at this resolution, but in the actual gameplay where it's shown at full 1080P, it's truly astounding.

Absolutely! And also there are packs for Majora's Mask as well so if you want to experience it again without playing the same game you can try that.  Also it works with Master Quest!

Thanks for all the info! The HD graphics look great and I love the cell shaded graphics pack too!

I've never gotten around to playing Majoras Mask, so I think I'll start going through that one now. It's one of the few Zelda titles I haven't played other than the DS games.

Oh god, Majora's Mask, what a game.... In my opinion it is at least equal if not superior to ocarina of time.  The only thing Ocarina has over it is it's classic status and the just "out there" feeling the story gives me.  Majora's Mask is alot deeper, the story is better thought out and much more unique (No rescuing princess zelda in this one... in fact she's not even in it other than a flashback link has).  The script is also much better written, and the whole game is just ingeniously clever.

What I love most about these texture packs is it takes the classic games I love and brings them into the modern era, but without changing the formula or engine a bit.  It's the same game your used to, it still uses the same exact game engine and code, it's completely faithful, yet it brings them from being outdated into feeling modern and fresh, while still being the same exact games.

However the retro super mario64 pack that makes it look like a cartoon is also awesome :)

Xbox One Thoughts:

Short answer - fun, but needs more games.

Slightly Longer Answer - I ended up getting it launch day. Got Ryse, BF4, and NFS Rivals. I'm pretty happy with my picks.

Ryse -- What a gorgeous game. I'd be hard pressed to find another game that looks this good at this time. The gameplay is ok, i'm partial with hack n slashers so I've been enjoying it. Just make sure its in small doses otherwise you'll get sick of it in a minute. It's definitely a game to show off to your friends, though.

Battlefield 4 -- More of the same as BF3 but with a few more choices and 60fps for consoles, FINALLY. Been having a ball with this one. The campaign is pretty meh but the multiplayer is where its at. Highly recommend it.

Need for Speed: Rivals -- Game is pretty, arcadey, and loads of fun. Definitely the surprise of the bunch. Just cops and racers duking it out on the road. It's basically a fast paced driving only of GTA5. The way this game does the multiplayer is pretty ingenious. Just drive up to some car and LB and bam you are in a race. quick and easy.

Killer Instinct -- Haven't really played much, but its a fighter. it does have a nostalgia factor to it. Will definitely play more later.

Kinect Sports Rivals -- Surprisingly receptive with the kinect. I'm looking forward to playing this one with my daughter.

All in all, i'm pretty stoked with it. After work tonight, I'm going back on and racing some more dudes.

My [early] thoughts on the Xbone - 3 days in..

The interface

It could still use a little refinement and it will probably evolve over the next few years but already it's far better than the current 360 interface. It DOES take a little getting used to since they've re-organised a lot of stuff. The basic features are pretty much all thier own apps now, it's fairly compartmentalised but it's quick and easy to move between them all.

I quite like being able to scan a QR code with the Kinect rather than typing in a 25 digit serial number - and there's no chance of typos.

Avatars carry over from 360 but there really isn't a place for them currently, I don't think they'll be missed if they are phased out.

Now that I've got my bearings a bit, I find I can get around pretty quickly using voice commands.

the video / entertainment apps are decent - sort of more of the same - but it's pretty handy to be able to list them as channels in the tv guide - i've not used that for TV actual yet, though.

Overall there's a lot less clutter and it's a lot more fluid. There is still a bit of loading some of the time but it's not like the headache of the NXE on 360 hardware - almost constant loading / waiting.

You can message people and see their details across the 360 - ONE divide but you cannot party / chat which sucks a little.

The audio quality in general seems much better with voice chat - both with Kinect and Headset.

The games

In getting rid of the DRM 'features' that upset [just about] everyone they also got rid of the useful feature of only needing the disc to install a game. This is where the system falls down a bit. Take Forza 5 for example - after a lengthy install that filled up 33GB of my 500gb hard drive - The game wanted a 6GB update - ON LAUNCH DAY - and I still need to have the disc in the tray when I want to play it. Kind of a worst of both worlds approach.

No more racing home and popping in a game right away - it's put a disc in and go have dinner while it does its thing.

Forza is a lot of fun though. I also picked up Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed 4. Both are good fun and look great. I fell out of love with Assassin's Creed early on with the repetitive nature of things but I'm quite enjoying part 4 [I'm pretty sure there's quite a few more than 4 of them already?]

Overall

It really is a system that's designed to go hand in hand with internet access and if you don't have decent broadband you probably aren't going to have a great time.

As an entertainment hub it works great but the system really needs MORE games and apps asap.

oh, and Killer Instinct suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

It can be a bit of fun if you play with friends but the AI is terrible. Aso, it's advertised as free but you only get one character - if you want the others you have to buy them in packs. My friend got a download code and it was just the same guy in a different outfit.

I hope this isn't Microsoft testing some new sort of demo / freeware model!

Really not impressed with it.

So, yesterday Christmas came early, my best friend brought me the greatest gift I've got in years:

http://www.smartphone-italia.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/nes1018.jpg

Complete with 2 controllers, Light Gun and two MarioBros/DuckHunt carts.

I couldn't be happier. I just needed to clean up the cartridges and the gamepads with a little alcohol and a q-tip, fix the 72 pin connector by bending the pins back in place, and it's now working perfectly like it's 1986.

Now to save up a little money to buy a few cartridges. Or, if I'm lucky, get them cheap at the local flea market.

Cuttlefish is a good friend. That's why I'm getting him SF2T for the SNES plus another controller. :)

...That is, if the postal service works. I was supposed to receive the packages several days ago.

Woah! Cool! Too bad I was on Videogames late, and not so deep. I just have still my SNES with Controllers, and 3 or 4 games. I gave my Street Fighter Alpha 2 game to a friend, because I still have the game on Playstation. But I still have Mortal Kombat II, Super MArio World and Mystic Quest Legends for my SNES.

At the moment I more tinker with the just arrived PS Vita TV. Too bad it is just working with a japenese PSN account, and so far it is more a bit useless. Having an eye on the CFW and Homebrew scene, I am hoping for some usability as emulator Station in the future...

Hopefully everyone got their L4D2.  We can do some splitscreening on that one for sure.

Also for the next hour or so, Payday 1 is on sale for $2.  That could be a fun game for this crowd.

I got one- I know C3PX has one.

Interstellar Marines is $5 for the next 5 hours.  That could be a good one for this group.  It's still in development.

Tobar and I already have it.

We randomly went to Kmart yesterday, they had the MGS HD Collection for $15, I couldn't resist. They also had the new Zelda 3DS game, which we bought. We'd sold our 3DS a few months ago, so we went to Gamestop to buy a new one. Ended up not being able to choose between the 2DS or an XL, so we got both.

Someday we'll stop impulse purchasing. Yesterday was not that day.

We also bought Super Mario 3D Land and Pokemon X. Haven't played those yet, but MGS2 HD looks how I remember it (how rose-tinted our view of the graphics of old video games are). Zelda takes place in the same overworld as Link to the Past (my favorite game), so there's a lot of familiarity there for me.
