...and if that doesn't work you probably have the initial bad release of 2.5 that would not demux/remux.

Deleted the first 'bad' one.. extracting now, thanks! Will be neat to have a playable disc. Will be even better when we can get this menu business sorted out.

Harmy. I'm in love with you. If I were of a different persuasion, perhaps we could get married and talk about color timing until we grew old together. Fantastic work.

I have requested a myspleen invite many times over the years but never received one. So usenet will be my only hope and I know I'm not alone. I'm patient and sure it will show up over the next few weeks. Huge Thanks in advance to the future usenet poster.

It is currently upping to usenet.

Thanks - but which group? Can't see it in a.b.starwars.

analog said: I was going to try this for kicks, just to see if it'd work, but get a "matroska parse error: invalid h264 NAL unit size. NAL unit truncated" error :(

Will wait for the "real deal" in any case... Just wanted to see if there was a quick way to burn for playback on a standalone player. Ah well.

The NAL error is due to header compression that newer versions of MKVtool kit thus mkvmerge now uses by default.

You simply need to remove it.

Here is how:  In mkvmerge, under options [file->options] on the mmg tab look for "Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default" and check the box. Then in main window add your .mkv and "start muxing" it will be somewhat fast as in this case it will just be changing the header not really doing a mux

Here is the commandline method:

mkvmerge --compression 0:none --compression 1:none -o "path and file name of new .mkv aka output file" "path and file name of the mkv file to be processed aka imput file"

BTW: I use mkvmerge 4.70 besides it being rock solid stable, mkv's made from later versions will not fast forward >> or reverse properly << on my Blu-Ray player.

P.S. It's worth spending 1-2 hours to figure out how to use MultiAVCHD for the do-it-yourself menu. You'll be able to use the knowledge for future endevours. Of course, I had to limit the audio choices down to 6 due as that's all that will display, but it's great solution until an "official" one is available from Harmy and his helpers.

I was wondering the same thing.  I also tried general usenet search engines but to no avail.

If I were to use multiAVCHD to create a Blu-ray that contains multiple movies like say SW DEED 2.5, SW ANH Revisited SD, and Star Wars Begins would the 6 audio track limit be per title or is the 6 track limit across the entire disc?

I am not sure but I think per each video track you can have 6 audio but you can't do it under global.

Cool, I'll see if I figure something out by then and if not, I'll take you up on the offer :-)

Well I have access to Scenarist but it's complaining about the video file being unsupported. I imagine it's a header issue but I'm learning as I go on. I'll keep looking into it but I'm out tomorrow night so I'll post again on Wednesday evening UK time.

A few days ago I made this post asking some questions about Harmy's plans for his upcoming STAR WARS Despecialized Edition v2.5 BONUS disc…Harmy’s reply can be found in it's entirety here.

A brief discussion then continued regarding the BONUS disc and its content, including a brief exchange between Harmy, hairy_hen, and Moth3r about the re-kindled possibility of an original featurette about DeEd audio tracks.

Like I said, it's been a few days…the above is some context for the following reply which I've been working on (developing the 2nd half) since:

Harmy said:

Actually, I am currently writing a script for a Despecialized Edition documentary, of which the Sources doc will be only a small part.

Right on!  Thank you for treating us this really nifty sounding work in progress…I am totally looking forward to seeing this expanded Despecialized Edition documentary!

As the bonus disc 2 will be mostly or entirely be comprised of original DeEd materials, would a AVCHD release format make sense make sense over a full-fledged BD build (obviously ONLY if the bonus materials would fit easily enough onto a DVD9)?

Also, I don't know if it would seem completely out of place to still include the original Sources doc (as more of a historical nod to the progression of this project), itself…but I am really looking forward to seeing the final product, in whatever form that it might take and whenever it is ready! ;)

Harmy said:

And I don't plan to put any non-DeEd related stuff on there, except maybe some trailers, which I will try to recreate in HD.

I am really happy that you're working on an expanded DeEd documentary specific to this project that even further showcases all that has gone into it (and I am certain that it will be way cool)!

While there have been several past efforts to bring together both released and unreleased bonus OT materials…the idea of a more "definitive" BONUS materials collection effort has kinda really taken hold in my mind over the past few days and as a result, here's a NEW repository thread (which may eventually serve as a "spring board" to more):

-> http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-OT-BONUS-materials-repository/post/665358/

In any event, thank you again to Harmy (and to every one else who has contributed) for all your work in producing this AMAZING Despecialized Edition effort! :D

Me too - a search just turned up the old versions.

And a Japanese porn star named Harumi.

Is this Star Wars as it was seen in the cinemas during 1977 or is this an attempt at making it look the way it did during 1977? I just want to be clear, I also don't like any "enhancements" at all.

Harrison Ford Has Pretty Much Given Up on His Son. Here's Why

I was asking if this is Star Wars as it was in cinemas during 1977 or if it's just a project created to make it similar to the ones in the cinemas during 1977. I'm looking for the completely unaltered 1977 version in the highest possible quality.

This is NOT what you saw in cinemas during 1977, but it's as close as is possible to get. This project is trying to as faithfully as possible recreate that using a number of different sources, but this is not just a scan of the original negative. There's still discussion about color grading in some scenes, for example. That said, this still may be better than what you saw in 1977 since this is all assuming a perfect print. If you went to a later screening in 1977 the print may have been scratched or degraded over multiple screenings. Also, not all theaters in 1977 supported stereo audio, so both mono and stereo are included in this project.

At any rate, this project's goals are recreating the 1977 film exactly, but saying that it IS the film that was seen in 1977 simply isn't accurate for a number of reasons.

I know it's hard to have any stomach for any shred of the SE's to remain, but shreds of the SE do remain in this project.  In spite of that, I feel this project more successfully captures the original cinematic feel than other projects that don't use SE sources.  Mostly because other pre-SE sources suffer from their own issues that prevent them from feeling very cinematic either (lack of detail, DVNR, washed-out colors, wrong crawl/flyover, etc).  Also, for what it's worth, the amount of effort taken in this project to REMOVE any noticeable SE elements goes far, far beyond what many here would require of such an effort.  If you want the 1977 cinematic feel, this is about a million times better than your Laserdisc ;)

Harmy, this is it. I think all of the goals of your original crazy despecialization efforts, as far as I can tell, have finally been fully realized.  Thank you SO much!

I wasn't trying to ask if it was a scan of the original negatives (sadly all of the original negatives don't exist anymore, they've all faded away), I was trying to ask if it had no alterations like the ones made after the theatrical releases (different light-saber colouring, brighter or dimmer lighting, etc.) If it's in HD and if this is the closest possible thing we have to the one we saw in the cinemas, then I'll get it.
