Star Wars OT SE 1080p 70mm Filmized Concept (a WIP) — Page 3

Well it also depends which matrix (if they went through a conversion to RGB at all) the frames were initially decoded with, of course. What you tell the encoder doesn't make any difference to the encoded video data if it's being fed YUV (as most are); it's just a hint stored in the container which will hopefully be taken by any eventual decoder. I've always got expected results out of YouTube if the video encoded was matrixed from RGB with rec.709, incorrect results with rec.601, and no knowledge of any other way to confuse colours.

Out of curiousity, are any of the wrongly-coloured ones (with a corresponding correct version on Vimeo/Facebook) still up on YouTube?

That image still looks nice though. I like how sharper it is comparing to original.

You could take any frame from any blu-ray, sharpen it, compare them on a computer screen and it will look "nicer." It doesn't necessarily follow that you can make a better video that way, though - it's a bit like the loudness war for video, with the added complication of wasting bits encoding sharpened pixels which your TV could have done for you at no cost.

As I said before, a Harmy + emanswfan 70mm filmsized Despecialized Edition project would be amazing. It's up to both emanswfan and Harmy though. I personally would love to see it, and believe it would be one of the best collaborations ever.

You definitely improved  those scenes.

The R2 shot seems to have issues that look similar to the lightsabers in your prequel work. To me, the lightsabers in the prequel examples look flattened in the higher range of luminosity. In the R2 shot above, the lightning looks much brighter and "fatter" than the photo of the Senator print. Granted that they are different frames, but pulling the blue saturation down may be more effective than increasing the brightness in situations such as this.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah, the blowout of the white areas in the R2 shot actually causes loss of detail.

Well, I actually was trying to make it prequel-like lightning (one of the very few things I do like about the PT), but the shot is hard as the bluray compression is just too low to do much tweaking with the shot.  I was going to just take down the blue's saturation down but it made artifacting so I had to pull up the brightness of the blue to hide it.  If I can get it to look not as fat, than I'll post a revised version.

Most of these shots look way too over sharpened. I understand the Bluray looks like crap, but while adding sharpening makes it superficially look better sometimes, you can't create detail when there is none (and trying usually just ends up creating EE artifacts). The best results are achieved with just color correction like Harmy's.

I know simple EE can cause artifacts, but if I do it the right way it can look better.  I'll post a video example at some point soon.

Maybe you could preface your comments with "IMO", otherwise you come off sounding like a self appointed authority on the subject. Some of us like what we see in the project.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

No problem, not trying to come off poorly.

In the back ground  the lights like the blue and some white, have changed. There's some bluish green introduced in the white lights.

Ben looks alot better though now.

Oh, I guess I didn't notice I accidently did that there, should be a quick easy fix.

I gotta admit I find it so ironic that people are starting to hate teal and orange tints in modern films but when you go back to the 70s that's what they were doing even then. I'm glad to see you seem to be doing that here.

This edition, should it ever go past experiment, is likely for me. My biggest issue with the SE comes from the color timing.

Not really for me. These images have that artificial, over-processed "aquarel" look to them.

Out of curiosity, could you clarify / expand on this?

Great screenshots so far, especially interested how your ROTJ will look like.
Your new Ep I-III color timing I am still most looking forward to.

This fine grain look is amazing. Somehow it brings out little details better than the Blu-ray does! Are you working with Harmy on DeEd 3.0?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

This actually looks really awesome. 70mm grain looks so authentic. If you don’t mind me asking, Have you done anything since?

Leave him alone to work on the Prequel Trilogy for the time being. It needs a bit of love. Sure a polished turd is still a turd, but at least it’s shiny.
