I had a feeling you would give something like that a shot.

Holy FRAK those creatures!!! It's starting to remind me of the Spiders in the Mirkwood Forest which Bilbo and the Dwarves are soon to encounter in the upcoming Desolation of Smaug film.... :)

I'd expect to see it in ESB before ROTJ. There just isn't enough Dagobah in ROTJ it seems to fit a cameo for the creature.
It WILL in fact be ESB:R......not ROTJ:R (IF it works out).
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
It sounds cool to add that large arachnid, but I'm curious where?
Without any new scenes being added to ESB:R (so we've been told) and without it interfering with what's already happening on-screen, the only place that comes to mind where it could work seamlessly is in that wide shot of Luke's X-Wing after he crashes it - you might catch a glimpse of one scampering off-screen to the right. Otherwise, there's honestly no reason to see them.
I can definitely see some other little alien creepy-crawlies/fliers (besides earthly snakes) moving around in a few shots though, mainly in the cave of evil or any other shadowy/dark shots.
^ I'm sure Ady will be adding it subtely to the background somewhere (If he can pull it off at all). He's not going to have it leaping in front of the screen with a loud screech SE style.

That is exactly where I thought it could fit. And it seems like a good idea to me, as all we ever see are snakes, lizards, bats, and the "fin" of the water beast. I always thought Dagobah could use more "wildlife" so to speak, to make it feel less like a movie set.
And what better than those arachnids to make Luke think of the planet as creepy? Sure, some people think of snakes and lizards as creepy, but that just seems rather tame for a swamp planet in the Star Wars universe, in my opinion.

There are a few places it could fit in the background:
(1) when R2 is looking into Yoda's hut while it's raining
(2) when Luke is moving about on the vines (or more specifically after he comes back down to the ground)
(3) when Luke approaches and enters the tree
The main thing is giving the impression that even the trees can get up and uproot themselves, ie EVERYthing on Dagobah is alive, squirming and moving.

In other words, the exact opposite of this....
As long as it's not attracting to much attention to it's self as a new effect, then I have no problem with it. I still want to be able to see it, but not shoved in my face like Lucas would have it done.

Perhaps premature but I was thinking about when ESB:R comes out (Whenever that will be) and a special way to celebrate this FanEdit of FanEdits.
Maybe everybody could watch it at the same time?
If Ady put it up to download on a Friday morning, everybody downloads it but then everybody could pledge not to watch it until say, exactly 2pm on the Sunday. Then everybody could be live-tweeting while watching it and then all hit this thread at 4pm? Get family and friends round, a BBQ, beers etc. Everybody could register their participation. It could be a record breaking worlwide online premiere thing.
Obviously holding off watching it for a couple of days would be a test of everyone's willpower but it would be a cool thing on the sunday. What does everyone think? Does anyone have a better idea? More immportanty what do you think Adywan?
(p.s. Live commentary??)

Ady only uploads his finished work to news groups. Then whoever gets it off of that will have it available as a torrent or what ever else for others to download. If your lucky you can get someone to burn you a copy.

@Ryan McAvoy & DF Shadow, Of course XD
@oh_riginal, I feel the exact same way. I'd certainly welcome the idea if Ady wants to insert some tiny, creepy crawly/flying creatures in some scenes (nothing blatant), to enhance the experience that this is out in the wild on a murky alien planet.
I even wouldn't mind if he replaced/modified many of those earthly things to something a bit more alien looking, especially that python on the left tree that Luke takes the time to notice as he's on his way to the cave - there's great opportunity for something unique there (it was genius that Ady added an extra set of eyes to that one lizard in the cave btw).
If a creature is tiny, they can more easily and naturally appear in a few scenes without being distracting. These arachnids appear a bit large (twice the height of yoda?) and menacing though, so inserting them somewhere without disrupting the focus on the character(s)/scene is greatly limited. I'm interested in seeing these arachnids, but I feel it'd only work at the long-shot of the X-Wing crash and/or maybe while R2 is out in the rain.

In short, exactly this :)

It's this stuff if it is possible of course that i love about these movies...
I love monster flicks and creature fx.
stop motion, puppet or cgi?
My gut feeling says this will be CGI... Now Alanfae proved a technique of dropping frames to achieve a stop motion effect on fully animated CGI on grievous in ROTS. Speak with him on how he achieved this effect of making a fully animated CGI asset appear to be stop motion by dropping frames. Seeing as it will be composited in spider it won't effect the rest of the footage to add in this effect in this scenario. But it is something worth considering as it looked cool.
So i would like to say i am 100% behind this idea kudos to you i hope you can pull it off!
Luke skywalker and the spiders from Dagobah...
Just for kicks...
BTW the smoke on Dagobah is dry ice... Better to go digital smoke layer for smoke here dry ice is a pain in the arse, expensive and won't work with miniatures probably due to it's nature of how heavier than air it is. Also storing it is a real problem it will still melt gradually in a freezer. Unless you can store it at about -14 degrees.
Normal smoke for atmosphere sure but not the ground smoke.

I LOVE THIS ^^^^^^^
Maybe you should get up with Ady and 005 and see if he can organize something like this. He's really good at that kind of shite. I'd be totally willing to hold off for a few days to ensure the maximum number of people would get it. I'd max upload speed for utorrent to get the torrent out for others as quickly as I could. I'd be willing to help any way I could so feel free to ask anytime.
If once you start down the dark path… wear comfortable shoes.
It would be great if a live stream could be done with a chat box off to one side but that is probably asking the impossible.
Adobe flash media encoder is free and could work to achieve setting up the video for a live stream it is a problem perhaps finding a service to host it would be the main barrier.
But I will suggest a spoiler thread be set up for peoples reactions and discussion.
How much pausing and rewinding on a first watch will you do not to mention watching something again and again after finally watching it all the way through undisturbed. So you could treat it as a race of who will get to the end of the movie first.
I don't see ANYONE waiting for everyone to get it. As soon as its rumored to be released, this thread will be FLOODED by people who still don't know how to get it. There's no way you're going to wait for them or anyone else. Heck, I'm still not sure how to do newsgroups, you'd have to wait for ME. ;-)
Maybe we can organize a live tweet style commentary once it's been out a month or something (I'm sure I'll get another fan fan edit commentary commentary out through Commentary Track Stars also), but you'll always have people yelling about spoilers. It would be logicistally pretty hard.
Usually after I write a huge thing like this on my phone, Ady says he has an idea, so we'll see. I'm just not sure how it would work.

I guess the obvious place for The Spiders Of Dagobah would be during the training scenes in the background.
We see those bat things every now and then so having a herd of of the them slowly sidewinding in the swamp like the giant striding things in The Mist
only smaller in the background or even out of focus, could add to a general feeling of a living breathing alien swamp just captured on film.
I definitely don't think there should be a herd of them. Just one in the background moving very slowly so that it takes a moment for us to register that it's anything but a bunch of roots. More eerie that way and a less blatant addition.
Maybe not a herd but a group (not just one) but in the background slowly doing their own thing while our eye is attracted to to Luke climbing trees and running with Yoda on his back.
Maybe if some of the 'trees' were actually the legs of a very slow moving giant thing it would underline how the Empire with it mechanical walking giants are no match for the power of life.
I read last night that they're the seedlings from the larger trees. Living seeds. That almost makes me not want to put them in there, because that's silly.

The Lucas way: When Yoda is moving the X-Wing out of the water, a funny amphibian spider is caught at the top of the ship (Close up on the creature who is wondering what is happening) Yoda waves his hand a bit so the X-Wing leans on a side and the creature slides along the wing and falls on the water with a little funny sound. Close up of R2 beeping a laugh.

Oh no that's great.
Trees fly and swim so why not have them walk?
