What is the main motivation for replacing the canyon shot... Is it just the background Matte?
Well for one thing...the explosion is horrible......not sure if that's the ONLY motivation....but it's definitely one of them.

This is the one thing I've been dying to see since it was first announced. I hope Ady doesn't release a clip of it, as I want to see it play out for the first time in the final edit so I can see how seamlessly it fits in with the original footage. I expect it to be awesome! High hopes....

^ If you mean Ady will be replacing this shot...
... then hallelujah! (Cries tears of joy).
That shoddy looking FX shot has bugged me since I was about 5 years old. Capturing that screenshot reminded me of just how wonderfully action packed and fast paced ESB is. ^That sequence is only 40 minutes in!

Oh_riginal 100% agreed I really don't want these things spoiled

nothing was planned necessarily.....just a few things he'd like to have done, or logically WOULD have done if the original unaltered film had been available in hi-def, or the original audio in enough channels....
ESBR:SD?
only kidding...
I can't remember one way or the other; will the added shots of people and buildings in the plaza, when Lando gets on the intercom and asks for attention, stay in or be removed? I've never liked the SE people in the hallway shot. The rest of it is OK (not great) but it's never irked me.
If once you start down the dark path… wear comfortable shoes.
I quite liked those shots as they did exactly what they were intended to do which was make the place feel less claustrophobic......pretty sure they're being kept...unaware if it is because Ady likes them (or doesn't mind them) or because he doesn't have an HD source to re-integrate the few seconds that were cut to make room for the new shots.
Regarding the canyon shot: Hopefully he'll also do something about that shot of the ships flying through the canyon here..
with new Ties, new crashes (this part bothered me the most), and new FX. Maybe he's planning on making this shot all new?
As for the added SE clips of people in the hallway and the outside plaza while Lando is on the intercom, I liked those additions and hopefully those will be kept, for the reasons that muddy has stated already.

I think Ady has said that it will be a new shot.

And Ronster, love seeing your ideas. Even though they probably aren't what i would want to do for this edit, they could be of use to other editors. So don't feel that just because i may say no to an idea that you should stop.
Bless you Ady Not Like that... I have been over the film and taken into account your 1st post
not treated this list as the holy bible of errors on the film
http://www.moviemistakes.com/film409
Empire Strikes Back was a Radical Departure from Star Wars A New Hope there is not many things I personally would Change with the film and I have shared them all and raised the issue when my gut feeling tells me something is not right with a scene and told you what I thought was wrong or of a possible fix or at least pointed the finger towards issues.
It's more like this now...
whoops one last one...
The lights are off in the tunnel this trooper emerges from...between the 2 pillars only noticed this the other day.
I looked through that MovieMistakes and it's amazing how many blatant continuity errors there are in these films. What's even more amazing is there were actually several that did not click with me before, despite the countless times I've seen these movies XD I'm glad that Ady has much better eyes and will be taking the time to correct all of these problems though (or most of them, because I can understand some of them would be very difficult to fix and/or not worth the trouble).
Question for you guys, how many doors/entrances do you think are in that Cloud City room where Lea is pacing around by the window? Originally, I used to think there was just one, but not long ago I realized that there are actually two. The first one is where Han walks in, and the second one I believe is where Chewie and later Lando walk in. Whether it is meant to be 1 door or 2 doors, I see an error either way and when I get time, I'll try to map them out in case it's worth looking into.

Ohhhh no!!!! Not this again!
Just kidding .mac.
this was gone over about 3 years ago about 15000 posts. I think Ady has settled on what he wants to do. Also.... I don' t think we ever found a solution.
That room is a waiting lounge...Not a Hotel Room There is nothing wrong with it.
Perhaps useful practical Idea and / or footage here for Jedi training remotes

and here
Please excuse me if this was already discussed and decided, but in case it wasn't, here it is...
This outline is crude, but it should be adequate to show you the layout of the room for determining the continuity error.
[continued on next post]
Notice the large, ornate windows and hallway behind Lando
But in the added SE shot, we don't notice them there
My suggestion: It'd be better and easiest to add the same ornate windows and hallway we see behind Lando to that added SE shot (and yes, I would really like to see this SE clip left in). I think this relatively small fix will really help this structure appear more "tangible" after we see it from the inside.
Those windows would be on the inside and not the outside of the building because the corridor goes all the way around, so it would be more like a central courtyard. But the way they are designed, they are more like ornate lighting than actual windows.

Oh okay. I always thought those were decorative windows to the outside, just like the kind you might find for a bathroom.. which only let light through and nobody can see when the rubber ducky is taking his bath:
But your explanation is definitely a possibility too. In fact, I really like your idea over "bathroom windows" because that's absolutely suitable for here - any architect is entitled to choose artificial instead of natural lighting wherever he wants to, even if it is a city in the sky :) That also explains why you made the window/Lea smaller on the tower, to help convince us that a hallway could possibly fit along there.
Thank you Ady
This is not so much a suggestion but more of placement analysis for a deleted scene from Yoda's Test.
The Metal Bar is awful so forget about that please...I don't think it is any good or any real use TBH (unless it could be swapped for a remote?)
I wanted to draw attention to this planned scene
*edit* I know this is not the original comc but the scene is present apparently in the Marvel comic before the film was released...
I know that the deleted scene itself has some issues Yoda being quite wobbly on lukes back and Luke swinging quite wildly for the remotes that are not there. What I most like about it though is that it binds ESB to ANH with Ben and now yoda training in a similar fashion with Ben's Mentoring teachings to Luke were over after they had only just begun.
But forgetting all of that because it is probably an impossible scene recreation... But most importantly where does it go or was it planned to go which is my main point?
I personally think that it goes between the Executor leaving the asteroid field (inter-cut after or before the shot of Executor) and Vader contacting the emperor... It certainly does not go into the training sequence we see later and also It would then be in context as Vader and the emperor are talking about Luke.... Some deleted scenes are quite obvious this one Is not so straight forward...But that may be because it was unfinished? If you think or know that it goes somewhere else I would be interested... But whilst futile in terms of the scene itself where does it go? Or was it meant to go?
Does anyone have the Marvel comic? for the scene order it was portrayed in?
And does the comic follow the movie in terms of scene order?
As much as it's a cool idea (and as much as Ady won't do it), the problem here is that it implies Yoda would use technology in training Luke. He doesn't even use the sabre for training except in cut scenes.
I think it would add something if somebody managed to integrate the Yoda/Lightsaber footage seemlessly into ESB (Probably not for this edit). At the point we see Luke fight a full-on duel with Vader, all we've seen Luke do with his Saber 'in anger' (In the previous 4 hrs of film) is vaguely wave it at a Wampa in terror (And have a trippy dream about beheading Vader).
We don't really see Ben teach him any fighting skills and then we don't see Yoda teach him anything either. Sure during the Bespin Duel Vader is toying with Luke to a certain extent. But Luke does make a valiant stand against him e.g. knocking Vader off the freezing chamber platform and slicing up his shoulder.
His sudden leap in swordfighting ability is never explained, but he has had alot of time to practice on his own, between the two films. But in most movies we'd be shown a little of that so we're not forced to fill in huge gaps in the narrative with our imagination.
It's not a problem, the film is fine the way it is... it's just an avenue for these projects to explore.

@timdiggerm very interesting point are you writing off the PT? If so I don't Blame you!
@ryan that was what I was kind of thinking
Does anyone know where it is meant to sit in the film or is it just one of those rejected ideas so they changed the training scene to eliminate it?
That is what makes me curious about it I can not solidly say where it goes for sure.....
for the placement where I think it would sit well... Requires the other deleted scene of the bombing and Han falling off the pipe so you can bring Lukes chat with Yoda in his hut forward.
I just want to know where it goes in the scenes... Or if at all?
It is complete conjecture really.... not a suggestion.

Ok Got an answer for anyone remotely interested (get it?)
From the original script it was axed written by Lawrence Kasdan but seeing as it was filmed it must have been a late decision.
Dream Vader & Darkside cave Replaced this scene obviously as it is not in the script
So I prefer the way it is in the movie this positioning for the proposed scene with the remotes is bad but food for thought on a re-arrangement to show Luke being a bad ass with a light saber and to have it in context.... But I have my answer and thought I would share it.
It's funny to see that Kasdan added in a scene using multiple training balls that was nixed once upon a time. I always thought it was ridiculous that they were used in ROTS as some sort of prescribed Jedi training technique.
In ANH, it just always made sense to me that Obi Wan used the ball and the helmet with blast shield down as an improvised training exercise. The idea that Han would just happen to have those Jedi artifacts laying around the Falcon seems silly.
I alwasy assumed that the inclusions of the train ball in the Millennium Falcon play-set from Kenner and being named on the box as a feature called "Jedi training ball" perpetuated the idea that it was a kind of known Jedi piece of equipment.
My 2 cents.
Btw, long time reader, first time poster.
Keep it up all, Revisited is my go to copy for ANH and I can't wait for ESBR!

I do that same ship with my notes before i see my shrink every week.
Hi there Fast Break... Han may have had one of those Jedi training remotes for other reasons i.e distraction device to get past guards for instance. or to get rid of mynocks lol
I'd say that in conclusion the technique of making one of those floating Jedi training remotes could be of use to Ady when he get's to ANH:HD to fix the bad compositing.
But making use of the footage where luke is swinging a light saber in thin air would be enough to suggest Yoda was teaching him how to use it more effectively without aid of technology but without making it feel like Rocky IV either...But it is probably not for this edit... Star Wars Kid also springs to mind...But I wonder how it would look rendered with a light saber glow and sound effects It might actually be quite good finished....
If anyone from the community wants to attempt a render of it I would be interested in seeing the result...
Timmdiggerm is right technology is way out the mix on dagobah no remotes should be present here and it got cut for good reason.
