In regards to the filming of new vader scenes. I am sure we could figure out what scenes they replaced.

remember ady is working within the frames... So no new added scenes.

What other, more difficult ones, shots did you shoot?

SECRETS
secrets.....and the new Darth Vader tap dance number....it delves deep into his psyche and explores his softer side...all told through interpretive tap dance...yall are gonna really love it.
Damn it man, now there won't be any surprises for the release! It is by far my favorite part of the musical now. I mean movie.

Singing Christopher Lee please.

I remember ady wasn't happy with the footage, he got from episode 3, for the new bridge shot. A good place to have a shot( a rather dificult angle to work). One behind the scenes photos, showing vader with his lightsaber. Is that a hint?

It WOULD appease Disney.

Yes, that would be a hint......so would the fact that in another pic the title on the slate has been blurred out.....

As for the actor playing Vader, we had a gentleman from Ottawa (I'm in Montreal) who impersonates Vader, owns his own screen accurate costume....so that base was already covered. I only had to give very basic direction (as what we shot was exceedingly simplistic).

And we're saving the singing Christopher Lee for episode II.

One shot i have in mind, is when vader loses his head, in the dream sequence. I'm gessing you may replace the dummy shot, with a real life actor.

You know, no matter what i did with the Vadergram, i just can't win. complaining that he looks too short, now that he is filmed at the correct angle to the holoprojector - but if it had been filmed at the original angle then people would complain that it's at the wrong angle and he looks like he is leaning back, especially now the figure would be able to be seen more clearly than the super fuzzy original. When i was doing ANH there was the whole "hands on hips" thing going then. But then it was people wanting me to remove the pantomime hands on hips gesture. Now it's complaints about changing it. Vader's stance, more often than not, is the hands close to the belt buckle. That's the posture i wanted for the hologram and that's the one i'm sticking with.It doesn't change the original feeling of the original in any way - only the way that you see it. It's still just Vader, on a hologram, getting a report about the landing from Veers. He wouldn't be striking an impatient stance because it's right at the beginning of the battle. The thing has just started. Would Vader really be getting impatient that early on? No. He is just receiving an update.

It's pretty clear that people interpret things in so many different way. If i was gong to change things just because of the way people interpret something,  then i would have to do a million different versions.

Good.  Stick with what you were doing.  I don't see how or why everyone feels the need to nit pick.  It's not their edit.

Have any of you seen the shot in motion? His movement is fine. Nothing to worry about.

DON'T YOU DARE USE LOGIC AND REASON IN THIS THREAD.  AND DON'T YOU DARE TELL US WHAT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT.  WHY AM I SHOUTING.

But you're not shouting.. you're just writing in larger letters.

I think the only thing I would like to see with the Vadergram is just lighting up the base underneath him to show that it's a functioning holographic projector.  I'm fine with the Vader image itself, especially knowing (1) it will be in motion and (2) we only see it for a few seconds, though even as a kid (on repeated viewings) I just wondered where the holo-image came from, as nothing in the frame is "turned on".

Regardless, don't ever let the comments get you down, Ady.  In the end, it's just comments on something you are working on to suit yourself, which you are sharing with us.

Muddy. Did you use an actor the same height as david prowse? Did you do any prep in terms to make him look like he moves and acts the same way?

just curious.

Matt

I hope he has the same accent as Prowse has. Otherwise it would not feel authentic.

As for other vader shots that Ady's changing, I'm putting lots of money on this one.
For the longest time, I wondered why they forgot to put a cape on Vader in this shot, as it looks like he's just wearing that tunic underneath.
Wasn't until the blurays that it was 100% clear that it was just that Vader had his hands behind his back. They probably filmed this plate while Prowse was impatiently waiting between takes, and what we get is a very strange, casual Vader stumbling on set.

Didn't Vader put his hands behind him when looking at the Falcon in the DS hangar bay though?

I've never had trouble telling Vader has his hands behind him in that shot. I took it as being deep in thought all these years.

I think part of it is that after all this time, [some] people feel that's it's being made just for them, and there is an emotional attachment to it, so to speak. Easy to get worked up about things when that happens, especially if it involves something they had strong feelings about in the first place.

Fortunately, many can get on with things even after their green laser dreams have been crushed... Haha. ;)

Nope, Ady is correct on position of Vaders hands for continutiy - in ANH he often held unto his belt too ...

http://www.jedi1.net/jedi1.net/images/1600/ANH-Darth_Vader-04592-1600.jpg

the main problem, and here is judging the screencap, is the angle and the way his hands are holding the belt in this shot - so maybe it is just a "delusion of the eye", but it would have been better if the actor had grabbed his belt more like this:

People here like to point out things that should have been corrected ages ago, and not in terms of "whoohoo, new shiny Falcon" or something, we as consumers wanted the best product, we could get at the time - so when one does take the hard job of bringing this classic to it's full glory, every improvement is welcomed ;-)

If you want to get an idea of how Vader holds onto his belt, then the best way of researching this is not to go to any CG figure or someone else in the suit, but Darth Vader only when Dave Prowse is in the costume.:

As you can see, the way the hands are placed in the hologram are correct.

ok, I wanted to figure out why some folks here pick at the hologram,  not really trying to pick at it myself ;-)

just to be clear: from the down angle, wouldn't it seem more natural, that Vaders hands cover those two "boxes" - they look smaller in ANH and ROTJ, than in ESB or is it another "eyetrick" ?

last call, then I will rest this case ;-)

I made a mockup how it could be, not saying Ady should do it, but maybe it helps folks here for their edit/s:

Tut, tut, tut, Ady!  Using logic and multiple pieces of mutually buttressing evidence to win an argument that never should have happened because there was VERY clearly nothing wrong with Vader's pose in the new footage in the first place?  When will you learn?

The Vadergram holo platform has been modified with a glow and the bottom plate has been darkened. There is no reason to discuss the Vadergram any longer. :-P

Wow, I never realized how often Prowse picked on his belt. Things like that only show that I don't know Star Wars well enough as people here. That's great, it reminds me again that the Revisited project is in good hands. Lucas himself couldn't find better people to do a project like this. :)

That sounds perfect 005. I'm looking forward to seeing ady's newest and probably final version incorporating these two good ideas for his already excellent Vader holo (I for one am very happy with the improved angle and the more natural "Vader pose" over the original).
