Like the idea of the Death Star motif resurfacing, GoodMusician sounds more than capable

When this idea was brought up? what motive? What will be the change?

-Angel

The death star motif appearing in the opening scene (any part with the death star).

Well since there's gonna be a second round of voting, here are some images from the wishlist that caught my eye. They would be a LOT of work for the animators.....but would also be awesome additions to the films.

I'm kinda new to the thread so I apologize if I can't answer that but it's an idea that's been circulating for a while. As for how to use it that's another story but its an interesting concept.

I was curious... is there a way to create a sort of...timeline...of ideas... of how you'd like (ideally) this ROTJ to edit to end up..I only ask becuase if I have a sense of timing, I might be able to develop some ideas for what music can go where and how .

I know it's early but it's just a thought.

I guess that answers to the importance of the coordination of the subteams as darth_ender suggested. Analysing scenes and setting a pipeline of doing and scheduling things. :)

At the present the only timeline we have is my script.  It's not up to date reflecting all the ideas up for discussion, but it is a step in the right direction.  When the sub-team is underway, I imagine they will address very specific frames and such, but the actual story is in there, plus whatever changes we voted on (see our voted items here.

So I'm thinking I want people to begin submitting their ideas for voting.  You can of course put it here in the forum or in a PM or both.  In the forum you can argue for your point of view and in a PM I will keep better track of it.  So again, this is a call for idea submissions.  It's very hard to collect them all on my on and I'm sure to miss something, so if you want us to consider your ideas, please submit them to me, ideally by Friday so we can begin discussion.

I will also work on the script once again and try to have it ready sooner so GoodMusician can get a feel for the timing of the film.  By the way, are you planning on rescoring the whole film, or just the parts that need adjustment?  I think the whole thing doesn't need be altered, but since some scenes' lengths will be changed or we will try for alternate moods, those would be the most opportune times.  Also, fishmanlee has been pushing for some alternate Williams cues that you might want to listen to as well.

Fishmanlee, is there any chance you can also make videos with the original cues but without dialogue for comparison?  I know it's a lot of work, but it might help us when it comes time to vote in the second round.  If it's too much work, I'm sure we can figure it out, but it might help.

Now, that's the kind of stuff we need.  If the animators could pull off stuff like that, I might actually survive watching ROTJ after the PT.  Seriously, the PT star wars fans I know pretty much don't like the OT because they lack that.

Yes, when I first took a look at the wishlist, I became quite excited simply by all the beautiful backgrounds.  I'll definitely put these sorts of things up for vote.

So I've already set up a new forum with a shoutbox for our sub-team.  I think this could serve their needs.  So far no one has complained about the idea, so pretty soon I'm going to send out invitations to the new forum.  As I said, I will keep people here updated.  Remember, we still discuss story and other ideas here and take them to the sub-team, and if they want to continue participating, they need to continue to respect the wishes of all.  I am the administrator of this new forum, so I think we can maintain a happy symbiosis.

I was posting this last night when my computer crashed but I once had a ton of my alternate scorings on youtube but they started pulling star wars videos when the blu rays were released and so I had to pull about 20 videos (ugh)

I guess my thouight was, I'm very familiar with all the prequel scores and their sonic limitations, plus also the melodic and thematic material.

my thought was even a rough outline of the scenes and ideas would help create an idea of what is needed where, and based on that, I could compile what we have and find what we'd need. Most of my work could simply be stitching together cues which I'm rather proficient at (I'd hate to say it but the Ultimate Edition of Episode I was an amazing editing job albeit a horrible product).

That way I could kinda... create an idea of what we have and what we'd need...a rough idea at least... The new scenes might need to be fully scored too which would be kinda exciting for me lol but anyway

If it helps at all, I did my own score/theme for the final Harry Potter novel based on what I heard in my head... so it's not entirely an unknown idea to me.

I'd love to hear that, considering that the Deathly Hallows score sucked huge Sorcerror's Stones.

I will finish the updated script ASAP (maybe today if I'm lucky), and from there I will turn it into a rough outline for your sake.  I don't really know how long each scene would last, but hopefully such a rough outline could at least give you a general sense.

You mention prequel themes.  Did you mean original trilogy themes or do you plan on implementing some PT material (something that a few here really have strongly advocated)?

Author
Time

I wouldn't dream to add many, if any, prequel trilogy themes into the OT. For me, that's kinda going too far. Maybe some background filler music, but not out right themes unless they're truly warented... Like...off the top of my head... instead of using the Ewok finale, they used that new age-ey music...but I wonder if something else might have been better...perhaps influeneced by the locations shown or something but thats ok...

Well, GoodMusician, as if you didn't already have me convinced before, those sound really great.  Looking forward to hearing more of your work :)

As for prequel themes, I would understand a lack of inclusion, though we had discussed it extensively.  I know MrInsaneA really likes the idea of a couple of them, and I think they maybe could be used subtly as motifs, even if not a flat out full song.  But it's up to you, though I hope you'll take our input as well.

Okay sugar.

One idea I've been tarting around on the wishlist thread for some while is that when the Rebels enter the backdoor bunker, instead of going underground to the reactor room (do we need another reactor blowing up?) they enter a service elevator leading to the just under the projector dish.

The reactor background could be replaced by a view of the skyline and perhaps a bit of the dish showing.

The Imperial officer gets knocked off an exterior balcony of the tower instead of into the reactor area.

When the charges go off instead of blowing up half the forest it just snaps the dish off which slides downhill cutting off the power to the Death Star shield.

When Han and Leia watch the station explode and have their little chat about Luke it takes place inside the wrecked dish.

Big effects project but it would make the conclusion of the ground battle look more visually interesting and it would be kind of poetic for Han and Leia to watch the Death Star go bang inside the carcass of their slain dragon.

True. I watch the Death Star go bang from inside the carcass of my slain dragon all the time.

You said it perfectly!

Some undertones would be ideal in some places.

Shouldnt the endor as have its own theme?like Bespin's/Lando's theme? I guess the celebration can have endor's theme in bittersweet tones.

OT rarely had choirs apart some exeptions in cloud city , the emperors theme and luke's boost against vader in ROTJ. Duel of the fates wouldnt be good if used with choir(not my kind of theme i could imagine in OT) or choirless in any battle. Its too tense. Most of the time in TPM when that music plays nobody talks. The music guides. in ROTJ its all more character based.

I guess GM can do miracles. I cant wait to hear what he will come up to.

Actually, the whole TPM battle score is full of variations of DOTF, that includes the space battle, ground battle, and destruction of the federation control ship.

also there is choir in ROTJ when the strike team are subitting the security code for shield passage, also Endor already has a theme, the parade of the ewoks/forest battle.

And a bit off topic, apparently, the revised Sail Barge cue (not the alternate) may have been ghostwritten by Fred Steiner, who composed the scores to several episodes of Star Trek (and some cues from the first movie)!

If you mean the first Star Trek movie I think Jerry Goldsmith's ghost would like to have a word with you after he is finished piddling in Terry Rawlings' tea.
