Lapti Nek History and Intrigue

Lengthy blog posts of the history of the song and it's various flavors.  With twists and turns more then Lapti's Nek.

http://www.crawdaddy.com/index.php/2011/05/04/lapti-nek-the-star-wars-disco-hit-that-never-was/

Excerpts:

In real life, “Lapti Nek” was sung in Huttese by Lucasfilm sound engineer Annie Arbogast, who wrote the phony alien lyrics herself. Famed Star Wars orchestral composer John Williams penned “Lapti Nek’s” backing outer space funk and arranged the entire song with son Joseph and Hardware Wars director/producer Ernie Fosselius.

In Thailand, however, this “Nek” was apparently one of ’83′s biggest hits.

The 1983 fan Lapti Nek video is awesome.

But wait there's more and it gets better.

Excerpt:

While Internet resources generally suggest that the Michele Gruska “Club Mix” of the song was recorded and released after Lucasfilm lost the master tapes of the Annie Arbogast version actually heard in the film, several behind-the-scenes videos that predate Jedi’s completion (all easily found on YouTube) clearly feature variations of the Gruska recording.

Intellectual curiosity growing by the minute, we tracked Michele Gruska down to see if she could drop some knowledge. Did she ever!

Go read the rest!  phun phun phun.

I can't wait for the trashy Lifetime cable movie where young, powerful Lucas, played by the guy from The Mentalist, creates the whole scene just to showcase the singing of the original Sy snootles voice, played by Tiffani Amber Thiessen. Just like Citizen Kane!

please do not speak of what replaced Lapti Nek. it's death by a thousand cuts, and i'd rather remember how it was meant to be seen back in the day.

Yes, the youtube video in none's link above was the first time I'd seen the SE version of this scene. I had never imagined it was that bad.

Thanks for posting this, none. Very interesting.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

From Joseph Williams to Jerry Hey, who would have noticed, or the bad 1994 quality graphics in the 1997 film of Jedi with snootles which looks like a ps1 quality cutscene.

Still not that bad when in 2004 you consider they put Hayden in the ghost scene, thought to be just a ridiculous fan rumor like Aliens in Indiana Jones IV.  Both unfortunately turned out to be true.

Ho-ly shit, I forgot the actual Jedi Rocks song, that really happened! The cruise ship band on somebody's vacation must have blackmail photos.

Don't you mean Hayden is not Vader, but Dave Prowse is Darth Vader ?

The former vaderisnothayden no longer posts here.

Is Lapti Nek the only missing part of the original trilogy soundtrack? If that's the case, its odd that it would be that particular song that's lost for good.

The second jabba song (the instrumental thing that plays later) is missing too. And so is the negative for the Jabba scene in star wars. All 3 of these things were used in the star wars to jedi doc, and then went missing. Who was in charge of that thing?

Love that matte painting.  Too bad it the mysteriousness was ruined as usual by Lucas shrinking universe style, they revisit the same place at the beginning of indiana jones IV and it just happens to be area 51.
