Might I suggest making the Q's and A's have different colored fonts?
They will be linked in the final version, so the Qs should be white, with the normal grey text answers. :)

(with all due respect to Anchorhead, who I believe used to post on theforce.net forums under a different name.)
This is the only Star Wars board I've ever been a member of.
Sorry Anchorhead, it is just that along time ago, there was a poster on TFN who only liked the original Star Wars like you. That was my only point, it is just interesting to see that several people who have the same tastes as you. I also believe that the universe became smaller with Empire, but I like the film to much to dismiss it. I believe that the first two films are classics, while Jedi is problematic.
"I'm making ice cream!"
Just to help uniformity, I would recommend adding an "A:" to the beginning of the answers, similar to the Q in front of the questions. Hopefully I make sense. Also, on the editorial pages, I would have the header above the synopsis link to the editorial as well.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Wanted to point out a typo you may have missed Zombie, you spelled Japanese, Japanse.
When referring to the special collection, i saw you corrected the date as i suggested though. I recommend the laserdisc database if you need to find the dates for releases. They are far more accurate than imdb.

+1
Really nice work, zombie! Thanks for putting it all together.

I liked it when it first came out. Not nearly as much as Star Wars, but I thought it was ok. I saw it a few times and even had a laserdisc of it for a while. Eventually though, it just didn't hold my interest. Return stopped holding my interest about 30 minutes after the opening crawl.
;-)
That Secret History of Star Wars article on the restoration (mentioned in the QA section) is one of my favorite pieces about the SW movies ever compiled.
I don't recall anyone else mentioning this, but...
Am I the only one who, upon first seeing the title of this thread, immediately thought it was a call to reform regarding the official Star Wars website?
No? Well, it's a legitimate cause as well, isn't it? ;)
Anyways,
Good stuff, zombie84. I was finally able to view the site in detail the other day, and I think the site is a well-needed resource...something that looks professional, sounds professional, and tackles the issues in a brief and concise (with the addition of the FAQ) as well as thoroughly detailed way.
The one thing that I felt needed work was the amount of material that the non-OT.com layperson would not understand...so much of it contained inside terms (GOUT being a prime example already mentioned) and took for granted a reader's grasp of concepts we debate about every day, or spoke in a manner that would be confusing at best, alienating at worst to an outsider (geekspeak, perhaps?). I'm guessing at least some of the material was written well beforehand without this site in mind. For certain the FAQ and basic portions of the website should be absolutely devoid of this kind of speak, but you may also want to clean up the more technical and detailed sections of the website to a lesser extent, just to keep the focus clear for the outside reader. Get down to the nuts and bolts for those who seek deeper knowledge, but keep it clear to the perspective of a newcomer.
Hopefully that comes across as constructive.

Funny you mention that. The first time I came across the thread, I thought the exact same thing. I thought to myself, "Why does StarWars.com need saving? Aren't those bastards rich enough?" Then of course I read the thread and had a "d'oh!" moment.
Hokay, so the final FAQ is up. Links to it on editorial, resources and main page. One more week before classes start, so I guess I should burn some rubber on those missing pages.

^^ Same.
I thought the same thing too.
So, I think I can use the WookieeGroomer splitscreen I have to start on a higher res recreation of the 77/04 comparison. Let me see what I can do.

Not only did I think the same, I swore I already posted about it. And yet there's no evidence of that.
Possible typo correction on the 'Special Edition Changes' section:
These only list the visual changes. By my counting, Star Wars alone has approximately 120 new or altered shots--commulatively, quite a different experience watching the film.
Did you mean cummulatively?
Cheers!

I think the word you guys are looking for is cumulatively. That's a weird spot in a sentence to put an adverb, by the way.
Perhaps this might sound better;
By my counting, Star Wars alone now has approximately 120 new or altered shots, quite a different experience watching the film.
Started screenshotting the comparison replacements. Already found a couple starfield changes that weren't documented.

Double005: Thanks a lot for any work there!
Good catch on the typos. I actually haven't run most of the pages through spellcheck, maybe I should finally do that... :S
It's tedious, but I am managing to find a few more in addition to the official list. Mostly mistakes. R2's holoprojector beam has completely disappeared while Luke watches Leia's message for the first time. Not sure how, unless they added the light originally outside of the O-neg, which doesn't make any sense...zombie84 said:

Teaser of the quality I'm getting from the Splitscreen:

Awesome. I might be reducing them to save a bit of server space if they are that large. As I said, I will be tackling the SE changes section last, so any work done in the meantime will help things along.
One thing that did occur to me that might make things quicker is just using the existing before/after images you had posted, and editing out the text (or putting in new text). That way, one would only need to capture the ones they missed. Of course, if the WG screens are like that they won't match as-is in terms of size and resolution. But it might make life easier.
Just host the pictures off site like we do already. I can make an account we can use exclusively for this project.

True. I like to host all my files on my own server though, just for protection's sake against third-party servers going down, deleting things, etc., being slow, etc. In this case it just seems unnecessary to have a HD upscale of the GOUT for the point of comparison when a standard-def cap for both would suffice. These pics are for the point of illustration, and need not be of reference quality since both A and B videos are available to all. Though at the same time, it would be kind of cool to do a definitive thing.
Maybe what we can do is host the full-res files offsite and I'll just keep the downconverts on my own space.
I think once we have the full catalogued version here, I'm going to go through and do a full running time measurement of the total changes, including re-comps, redone opticals and audio alterations. Might be useful. I alway thought one could plot that on a horizontal line graph against the running time, with indications of when a change occurs and whether it entered in 1997 or 2004. Would make the staggering amount of changes more tangible.
