Well, HOPEFULLY, they created all the effects in 1080p.

So the Jedi deleted scene was on the 2004 DVDs?  I must have missed that.

I never said anything of the kind.

Well, your argument was that the never-before-released deleted scenes were likely to be presented in SD because the trilogy has been released on DVD before.

However, the deleted scenes haven't, so they're new content, being released on Blu-Ray for the first time.  Therefore, it's more likely that they'll be presented in 1080p.

I saw the Jedi scene in person at Celebration and it definitely had the appearance of workprint quality - much like the Biggs scenes from the CD-ROM.

No; it was not.

Shouldn't we at least expect a quality like the alternate cloud city scene with han/leia, which was of quite good quality and released in 2004, within the empire of dreams doc. this was a decent 480p anamorph release.

Here's yet another can of worms:

In the early ROTJ trailers, Luke's lightsaber was not green...it was blue.  It was colored green later.

The question is this: in this deleted scene, was Luke's saber blue like the early trailers, and did Lucasfilm color it in green recently, to match the final version?  We may never know.

I dislike revisionism, and even more so in cut scenes, since we've never had access to the original even on VHS!.  But the line between restoration and revision becomes very blurred at times, especially when you get into missing effects shots or unfinished scenes.  Best case scenario would be having both the untouched/unfinished scene as-is, and then a restored/finished version as well.

That is an interesting can of worms, but if Nerfherder's earlier quotation can be relied upon, and I think it can, and this was cut from the final cut during post production, then the trailers might well have been completed before then.  There is that shot in the ESB trailer with Artoo during the escape from Cloud City that did not have the laser blast effects added in, which shows that that trailer was made before all the effects were complete.  In the ROTJ lightsaber scene the effects are present, so perhaps the ROTJ trailer had already been made.

My guess is that the deleted scenes will be all polished up with added CGI like the prequel "deleted" scenes. Because that was his original vision.

So, the youtube clip has been taken down.  Did anybody download it?

As quickly as it's taken down it pops up again someone should list it with an obscure enough name to hide from the boobtube cops.

That is a disturbing image!

It is nice to have the video back though.

Yeah, that trailer would have been completed and shipped out to theaters long before the FX were finished, and probably before the music was completed, as well.

If the cut-scene was chopped at the last minute, they would have already gone with the green saber by then.

The first Revenge trailer with Luke's blue saber was attached to the Star Wars rerelease in summer 82, so yeah that's way before the scene was cut out.

I am wondering then if the scene that was shown at C5 was the whole scene? It seems like there ought to be more to it and we only got the middle of it.  How does this compare with the other showings of cut-scenes at the cons?  Is it LFL's style to only show parts of the release or do they have a tradition of showing the whole scene?

Has it been "captured" off of the youtube by anyone?  How does it compare with the track off of the SE soundtracks?

The track is longer, so I'm 99% sure it goes on longer.  I don't think it starts any earlier, though.

I thought this one was interesting:

If you edit it together with the new footage, you might have something.

I think it's an interesting scene and I find it odd it's not leaked until now. I don't doubt it's authenticity, just impressed. It's weird though - as I watched it, I felt as though I have seen it before (don't know when or where), then start wondering if it's because I've read those lines of dialogue - actually, it's probably at least mentioned in "Returning To Jedi" documentary, perhaps with some stills?

It was quite an emotive scene, I did like it in isolation. Maybe in the film it did break the flow and spoil some surprises. After all, Luke still turns up all hooded and mysterious as Jabba's palace and does some force choke which is pretty dark side.

Also, about recycling footage - at the end of Jedi when the death star is falling apart and Luke is escaping with Vader the TIE Pilots running around are out-takes from the first movie.

Righteous- thanks.

Funny that the extended one put the cave establishing shot before the shot of Vader in the hallway.  'Cause that makes sense...

Which begs the question- where does that establishing shot go?  Is it in the middle of the scene, because it looks like it wouldn't fit there?  As opposed to a push in to the cave as an establishing shot... perhaps it would have been used as a pull out after the scene- making a bridge to R2 and 3PO walking up to Jabba's.

Yep.  I could see that... Using the shot as a pull back with Artoo and Threepio there outside the cave, then a wipe, then they are walking to the palace.
