this is the (so far) final version of superstructure chase reconstructed

I like the "so far" part !

Fishmanlee,

Superstructure Chase was not recorded in Abbey Road studios...

Eric Tomlinson (recording engineer) said:

"I went down to talk to John williams when he was conducting (...) He couldn't hear a damn thing in there".

"I took it back to Abbey Road and I spent days trying to make it sound like Abbey Road and I just couldn't. We gave up in the end and although it sounded OK in the studio at Olympic, it didn't match up with the preceding or the following cue. They almost dropped it but it was too important to drop".

Also, "Tie Fighter Attack" from Star Wars has some mixing mistakes as far as I know.

...

Now, hoping you won't ignore this advise as you ignored Adywan's ones a few time ago, I highly recommend you to forget such tracks or even such recordings, and try to learn something through possible improvements: the soundtrack industry is full of relatively good recordings that only wait a few and subtle equalizations to sound "ace" ! Also, please work in lossless with uncorrupted files... And stop spoiling my work too, or I'll post a new topic called "Fishmanlee's SW scores mega-improvements" that will make you regret this !

Be subtle, be tasty, and please, use the Force !

I'm all for an ultimate RotJ set, of course. It's great music! The sail barge battle music and the music while Vader's suit is burning give me goosebumps each time I listen. If this soundtrack can be cleaned up/fixed even more than before, that would be hugely appreciated. :)

You're not too late, simply cause I have left this project aside. RotJ is quite a bad material to work with.

If you're VERY interested I'd love to hear what you can do, and then we're going to invert the roles, leaving to you the whole baby...!

I can help you re-thinking - or suggesting - a new complete cue sheet after having spotted all the different takes (or cuts). We can discuss wich cue we drop if they are too bad, too. I can also make a few mockups (editing)

I can provide a professional presentation (arts).

And also I can point you too to my previous work on the complete score, in order to show what good surprises I've been able to reveal from these recordings already.

Needless to say it would deserve a new topic and I wouldn't get that bad if you'd post a new one.

You are in command now, Master !

:)

Haha!

I'd love to help out. I think we should discuss this via PM. I'd love to give back to this community. Making a definitive version of the ROTJ soundtrack would sure be an honor.

This is an awesome idea. The salvage set has at least made Return of the Jedi listenable, but maybe some of us can turn it into a real masterpiece. I don't really have experience ReMastering but perhaps I can think of another way to contribute...

I think you can launch the piece of meat , cause I don't think there will be such a thing from us. MasteringJedi may confirm or not though...

EDIT: For me, that thread is OVER.

Here's a question:

Anybody know where I could find the music Jabba's band are playing on the sail barge? Not the song sang in his palace, but the tune they are playing as the barge crosses the dessert. I've never seen this on a soundtrack- though I haven't listened to every release- and I'd love to have it.

Also, how about the version of Lapti Nek (or however it's spelled) that was actually used in the movie? The version I have has a different vocalist.

The bit you search is lost. See http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Star-Wars-Prequels-Original-Trilogy-The-Complete-Scores/post/360843/#TopicPost360843

GoodMusician has made a nice film version of Lapti Neck (you'll find infos around the post linked here).

It's a torture !

I agree with that A B C. Looks like a lot of time was spent trying to blend all the different sources together seamlessly ;) But anything that Fishmanlee posts a link too i usually get the same nauseating feeling when i hear it as he usually just likes to spam everyone's threads with rubbish or use other peoples videos without giving credit to the source used so everyone thinks he's done it.

I don't think there are any good reasons. I'm sure there are enough masters (films etc...) to put a hand on these.

It's a little like the story of the "lost" master tapes from ESB falling in pieces (the 4-track sessions tapes) that make some around like SkyJedi -no harm meant- say that there's no hope to have better, wich I can't agree because... All the music is/must be still available through original 24-track tapes. The proof is that the last part of "Drawing the Battle Lines" was remixed from these for the SE whilst it's not on the original album. This one for other instance provides a bit from "Captives" (in "Betrayal at Bespin") wich is considered as an underscore part (usually underrated) at the end of "Departure Of Boba Fett".

Then I'm a little perplex when knowledgeable people come and say "the master tapes are lost" !

... Let me ask then: wich ones ???

'Hope this answers in a way.

Damn. Thanks for the info!

... So, following the previous post... "Lost to our knowledge" ... would be a wiser answer.

Yes, that is a good way to put it. After being lied to by Lucasfilm so many times over the years and hearing "stories" from people that don't even work for them, people get things mixed up sometimes. :p
