If Dying Anakin would be re-dubbed, the only guy who could pretend to do it is James Earl Jones! Only without the vocoder/breather effect…

I say we should hire him :)

So, how's the Max Reebo band's music in Jabba's palace? Personally, I think that it sucks in both versions. I know it's been discussed a bit before, but I figured I'd share my thoughts.

First of all, while I think that the 1997 version is far more obnoxious, what with these crazy looking creatures singing directly into the camera (really, WTF? Characters are not supposed to be aware of the camera unless it's The Office!), and downright cheesy music. I don't really think that the CG Sy Snootles looks so bad, because personally I think that the original puppet was a lot worse, and I'm all for having more alien chicks in the movie (and I'm even OK with Boba Fett flirting with them), but as I said, the scene is just way too obnoxious and a full musical number has no place in a Star Wars movie (and despite what the Head Ewok says, that doesn't make it "funnier," that just makes it stupider).

Basically, Max Reebo and co. should just be edited to just be something happening in the background, with a few shots making it into the scene but not being the center of attention any more than the butt head band from Episode IV was. There are a lot of different kinds of music that one could potentially go with, but I'd either go with something foreign or very experimental sounding, and it should work as background music to set the scene, not be the focus of the scene. I recall someone suggestign a while back that it could be a middle-eastern flavored music style, and that could work pretty well with the scene as long as it has enough of a beat to imagine Jabba having it as party music.

BTW, has any musician actually stepped forward with ideas for alternate music for that scene, or has anyone talked to one about it? I'd hope that if new music is going to be brought in from outside the franchise that it will be done with the artist's blessing, or better yet composed specifically for the film.

I would suggest something from Vangelis. It has to be from the 80's because new electronic music would be out of place.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I think any electronic (or at least obviously electronic) music could be out of place, or at least not the best choice. The music we heard in the bar scene in ANH was jazz music, and Jabba's a gangster. I think a similar style of jazz would be more appropriate than anything more recent — part of the problem with ROTJ is not so much that it's inherently inferior to the first two but more that it's aged less well. The use of contemporary pop style music from 1983 was replaced by contemporary pop style music from 1997 in the SE (same goes for the finalé music); by contrast, something *already* stylistically dated like the jazz music in ANH will age much better. It doesn't have to be actually old music, just done in an older style.

Then may I suggest something from Cowboy Bebop.

There are many songs that sound close to the jazzy cantina style music

then here is a more Vangelis style piece

Of course Lapti Nek wouldn't have been as bad without the vocals.

I tell you all what. I am a musician. I will try and work on something.

Yes I have to agree with everyone here, for me the Max Reebo band kinda ruins the movie,* it didn't go too well in the OUT, and it's even worse CG'd (keep on thinking its Joe Cocker http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQYDvQ1HH-E around the 2:00 mark)

Even use something in the style of the Sail-Barge music, it doesn't sound too bad.

I can play most of Lapti Nek on guitar, bass and keyboards. I could record it, and we could have it without vocals, which would be an improvement. I just wish I could remember how to play my trumpet.

The song still sounds like a corny 80's pop song. IMO for the music to work it has to sound more otherworldly, or at least foreign.

I thought that the new ending music in ROTJ Special Edition was a huge improvement, BTW. Yub Nub was just downright ridiculous as was a very poor song to end the saga with IMO. If you listen to the album version it's even worse, because you hear just how ridiculous the vocals sound when there aren't party sounds drowning them out. That was one of the few instances of George Lucas noticing something he put in the movies was stupid, and decided to remove it.

As for Jabba's Palace though, as RoccondilRinon said they just replaced one dumb dated sounding pop song for another, except now we had obnoxious CG muppets singing directly into the camera as if it were one great big troll on the audience. Lucas could have fixed the scene by making it less annoying, but instead he just made it more obnoxious than the original. :(

Yeah, but if you pay attention, you can see that they beat the storm trooper helmets to a different tune. It looks bad.

Eh...I agree that Yub-Nub is a bit campy, but I've gotta disagree about the new music being an improvement. I don't see how new age, hippy, Kenny G. music is any better than campy. In my opinion, it was a problem that needed to be fixed, but the "fix" just made things worse! (Which is, I suppose, pretty typical of the SE.)

I like the SE ending music.  Its a bit more "epic" and "saga ending" than Yub-Nub.  I'm not sold on the helmet drums in their new state as its not the Ewoks playing the song anymore...

Well...to each his own, of course. But to me, it doesn't sound epic at all. More like I'm laying down to get a stress-relieving massage, which is nice of course, but not exactly epic. IMO, the ending music to ANH was waaaaay more epic than this particular piece...

I think it's perfect.  After all the stress of worrying if those cute cuddly Ewoks will survive, the only thing that calms me down is a nice massage.

Heh. Maybe Ady can rotoscope in a scene of Lando getting an aromatic massage. After his near death experience (both at the explosion as well as the prospect of being edited into oblivion), he could probably use one...

Underwear removal?  I'm not sure the "wishlist" is for those kinds of wishes. ;-)

Why not 005 ? :(

Its not make Leia Nude all the time.. just remove the panties for a couple of frames :D

So the wishlist is about originality right? :P

Not sure about this pic but i like how the boiling smoke came together :P

Like the mines of moria..i think?

Something interesting. I run my idea into max and i placed the throne room around the dish.

If the throne room is vertical with no angle from the dish the horizon is low enough so all the other scenes that have luke looking from the window are ok.

The problem is that the perspectives will still cause confusion to the audience while we have the fleet vertically placed. :)

It makes more sense to have them removed. What do you think those pieces of fabric are for? George Lucas even said there's no underwear in space... didn't he?
