Yes, but I'm talking about re-uploading and presenting it in it's correct aspect ratio.  That mean no more stretch warps that make everyone look taller and thinner, and better sound quality too.

Also, if I do this then the 13 parts that I have uploaded now will be taken down.

Can you fix the aspect ratio using Formatting Tags?

I 'fixed' my first few uploads this way.

That does stretch it out more to fill the entire screen, but I was thinking of using Handbrake to covert them into HD and still keep the 2.35:1 Anamorphic aspect ratio.

My recent youtube vid here is an example of what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLep-hbLBc8

I discovered my wife's friend was a "Star Wars virgin" so we set up a movie night and watched ANH Revisited last night.

Her response was that it's "cute." That's a compliment, by the way. She especially enjoyed the easter eggs on the DVD-9, and was wowed by the extended Alderaan boom-boom sequence.

my question for anyone is this; is the picture quality of the movie any different on the dvd5 and dvd9 versions or is all the extra space used for the special features.  i ask because i was able to burn the dvd5 on a lightscribe disc and add my own label and i like it.  the problem is i keep running into problems burning the DVD9 version with imageburn (something about 51_4 error or something like that.... i'm not a very tech saavy person) and i'm afraid if I buy a blank dvd9 lightscribe disc it will all be in vain if I can't get it to burn.  in that case i'll just stick with the dvd5.  whew.   anyways, aside from the special features is there any difference in the films picture quality between the dvd5 and dvd9. i appreciated any help here and I can't wait for ESBR

The bitrate is higher on the DVD9, but I've never done a side-by-side comparison of the two to see if its noticeable.  There are a couple of tweaks to the movie itself, but nothing major.

According to the wiki, the average bitrate is higher for the DVD9 - about 7Mbps whereas the DVD5 is only 4Mbps (this is for the PAL versions, no-one has entered specs for the NTSC versions yet). So yes, potentially better quality.

There is apparently also one additional fixed shot on the DVD9, and audio differences relating to Vader's voice.

Which shot?  I know something minor changed because the timing of the text commentary at the end credits is different - on the 5 when Ady's name comes up, in the text commentary he says "Hey!  That's me!" but on the 9, the timing is off and "Hey!  That's me!" comes up at Harrison Ford's credit.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

There are two major visual changes between the 5 and 9.  The first is that instead of adding a gun to the rack in the Death Star control room...

...he deleted the gun from the later shot:

The other is that instead of crediting himself at the beginning of the credits, he moved it to the rest of the Revisited credits (kind of like how the SE credits are the same until the SE credits actually start).  That's what throws off the commentary.

Haha, that would explain why the commentary's off.  Oh well.

thanks for the help on that everyone. i appreciate it.  I showed my copy to a friend of mine- another star wars fan- and he is blown away by the changes made to it.  You know I saw the signature at the bottom of bkev's post, the one by c3px, about how the Star Wars one sees today isn't the one he grew up with and that really hit home for me.  i remember being like 5 or 6 years old and going to my aunts house and seeing it on HBO for the first time..... and there's definitely something to be said about the fact that no generation really sees it the same. and at 5 years old it was just as incredible to me then as my nephew who saw the SE version.  that proves that changes or no, Star Wars really is timeless..

Have just seen, after a long absence, what Ady said about maybe going back to tinker with ANH:R. So much for what he said about NEVER going back to it again :)

Only thing I'm confused about, didn't he lose his project? Does this mean he'd have to go through the whole entire process again? Ouch. I'm assuming using his dvd as a source for further changes would result in a loss of quality.

My wishlist:

I personally don't mind the torture droid needle either way. Colour me unconcerned about that.

Straight cut instead of a fade in Mos Eisley. I have nothing at all against using fades in general, but it just sticks out like a sore thumb for me because it's the only fade still in the film as far as I can tell (as well as in the upcoming revisteds I'm assuming). All the other original fades have been replaced with straight cuts or wipes. Restoring just one of them to a fade seems a bit inconsistent to me. Not a big deal though.

Tweak the Snivvian's mesh warp animations. I think because it's been animated far more extensively than the other Cantina aliens (which were mostly just blinks and frowns) it's ended up less convincing (to me anyway).

I LOVE the music in Obi Wan's death. Only thing that needs to be done (maybe Ady tried this first time around. i don't know) is to soften the *plink* sound as it speeds back up. It's just slightly jarring.

Also - If this does happen. Please please PLEASE give it the full treatment. DVD-9 in both PAL and NTSC. It would be a real shame if your final, definitive version was lacking in that department. Go big or go home :)

EDIT: I seem to have overlooked Ady's follow up post, stating that only 2 changes tops would be made. Sorry.

Ady might revisit Revisited, but only to tweak the droid needle and restore the spinning starfield.  That's it.

More suggestions should go on the "After Ady" thread, I suppose.

Word. Has anyone expressed serious interest/intention in putting any of the suggestions into place? I know there are some ongoing projects, but they're not reworks of Revisited.

Playing catch up and getting really excited about something isn't anything to apologize for.  You should have been with me as I was catching up on the whole thread, wanting to bring YEARS old conflicts back out.  ;-)

I’m curious about the early scenes with Biggs and Luke on Tatooine.  Why weren’t they included in Revisted?  Was it decided that they add nothing to the story, was the footage too badly degraded to be salvageable, or was it just too radical a change from the original?

Time is running out for the Rebels. Antilles upcourt to Skywalker. He’s being paced by Darth Va— the bone-jarring pick by Solo! He came out of nowhere! Skywalker’s open from way outside, he launches at the buzzer... Good! It’s good! The Rebels win on a sensational buzzer beater by Luke Skywalker! Let’s take another look at that last shot. He just does get it off in time. Wow, what a shot. That’s why they call him Luke Legend.

That may be the most exciting battle I have ever been privileged to broadcast. Certainly the most dramatic finish. We’ll get you an update on the Artoo Detoo injury situation in just a moment. Right now let’s go courtside where SuperShadow is waiting with Chewbacca.

They were cut in 1977 for a reason - we all know how adding the Jabba scene back into the film turned out ...

Yes but the scenes with Luke were only cut to allow the plot to advance faster, restoring them could not possibly be as bad as the Jabba scene.

Personally, I would prefer the movie with the Tosche Station scenes in because they fundamentally deepen Luke's experience on Tatooine. That's why so many stories have been written and drawn about that aspect of the story.

Oh, I totally agree that they add character development - they're not bad scenes by any stretch of the imagination.  They just kill the pacing of the film.  Badly.  They just don't work in the larger context of the film as a whole.

I'm all for seeing the scenes properly restored, but I don't think inserting them into the film itself in any form would improve it at all.

I also feel the Biggs scene on Yavin IV doesn't belong, especially in its SE-truncated form, but not for the same reason.  It just doesn't work very well with the other Biggs scenes removed - it doesn't hurt the pacing of the film too badly, but without the proper context of the Anchorhead scenes, it just feels out of place.
